You can tell that they provided a lot of heart and soul to the band which is often immeasurable although as you pointed out there was also concrete evidence of their contributions to BOC!
Joe and Albert were NEVER given enough credit when in the band. Songs like "Fallen Angel" (my favorite) were brilliant and deserved more attention when it was new.
albert and i had a good time doing it...we're friends and former colleagues...he had no problem with it nor did just about everyone else who's ever responded to it...i guess there's always one in the crowd who has to be loud.....and rude...dude....
Yeah, I'm totally with Albert. He like myself is from upstate new york...those slick long island guys pushed him out but you can't readily replace talent like that...that's a matter of fact!....life's a continuum...not all is roses...there are lots of thorns...for Al and his pal, Dave, and all the other depraved!
I agree the original line up of blue oyster cult was the best, i have always love Alberts lead vocals on songs. Isn't he a music teacher now at a school?
Thanks for your comment, I worked with Al for over 5 years and he is a great guy! Naturally by knowing him I take his side on all the issues not knowing the other original band members. I've seen him play more than once sans BOC and he's a fantastic drummer....I did see BOC a few years ago in NYC and they could have used Albert's presence, skills, and talents!
Al's a great, way underrated drummer and song writer. Met him in a small club in Little Rock AR, just as gracious as he is here. I wish they had had the "friendly" royalty agreement, as things can get uncomfortable when a "hit" makes one guy a ton of cash when other brilliant songs aren't released as singles necessarily. Vengeance (the pact), Morning Final, and many other Bouchard songs were my favorites of all BOC tunes.
It was nice to hear Albert reminice about his positive experiences with Blue Oyster Cult. I'm a little disappointed not to hear Dave Gold ask him about Albert's signature song "Cities on Flame with Rock n' Roll." It was a minor FM hit way back then and arguably, his greatest contribution to the band's lore.
@Johnhoulgate Yeah, good call out, I covered it with Al on my 28 minute interview but had to cut it to under 10 for youtube.....the city went down in flames!
@DaveGoldShow I kind of suspected that was the case. If you can get that segment up on YouTube, that would be killer. The city going down in flames was much more spectacular than a flare gun causing a mobile studio to burn down.
Great interview! And a hint of a reunion! Albert was the soul of BOC... the yin to Buck's yang. Thank you for posting this.
A buddy and I saw "BOC" recently at an Indian casino. We made our way up to the front and waited for quiet moment, whereupon we screamed at the top of our lungs, "Where's Albert!!!"
@DaveGoldShow As somebody who has been in several bands I'll go ahead and say that isn't "corporate..." it has to do with disrespecting the current drummer and re-igniting old conflicts. Albert departed the band under circumstances that were less-than-amicable, and both he and BOC are happy where they are now. Asking about the former drummer from 30 years ago at a gig in front of the new, capable drummer is hardly appropriate... and BOC doesn't even have a label so they're far from "corporate."
Not the same without Joe and Albert, Albert wrote alot of great tunes with them. I think Albert wrote the best stuff, as well Joe too. Just my opinion.
Yeah i know that, but for me the brothers wrote the material i love most. But i still admire Allen, Eric, and Buck a great deal. I love all of there music. 1972-1982 the best era for them in my opinion.
Would love to see the David Roter interview that Albert mentions, Dave. I always enjoyed David's work, his Find Something Beautiful CD is still one of my favorite all-time albums,.
Albert and I taught together for a half a dozen years...I got to see him drum live and he's awesome...He was nice enough to come on my tv show and give me a good, insightful, interesting interview!
thanks

Fireworks really should've been a single, the only song written entirely by Al also happens to be one of his absolute best

I love Al. Anyone know if there's an edit of this somewhere without all the cutouts?
