@arichli It's not a commonly taught letter nor is it a commonly-occurring sound but nonetheless a part of the Pinyin letters. Like, they teach it to you before they teach you the diphthongs such as ei (êi), etc.

This is great! Thanks so much for sharing. I have to be fluent enough in one language in order to pass a class taught entirely in that language. My only options are Chinese and Spanish. I've taken Chinese courses before, but I don't remember anything, so I am starting from scratch. Thanks!

Pinyin, latin system of writing chinese. Chinese people use it for typing and sending sms. And Occidental people who want to learn Chinese, must learn Pinyin as well for pronunciation. That's it.
