I agree Paul was an amazing musician, not just for the fact of bass alone, but because he was like you said self taught and also he wrote the majority of Slipknot music. They've actually inspired me as well to make my own music, but I'm still looking for a band. Right now I play every instrument to my songs, but I'm heavily influenced by Corey Taylor's vocals. RIP Paul and amazing video.

sometimes the b string guage wont fit onto your 4 string,

but i think 4 string is better, its more manly i find,

the fewer strings then the less you have to work with,

the harder it is to play and the more technical and speedy you have to be,

for example, look at the bassist from Necrophagist, who uses like 7 strings or something,

way too many,

totally useless, talentless, vs Sean Beasley of Dying Fetus, who does insane sweeps on a 4 string bass, much much harder,

@MrsAmericanTerrorist hmmm actually you can have the standard thickness of strings beleive it or not. i used the standard mediums and was able to play in drop B and even drop A with them, im guessing he uses those too because when he plays drop A in the Iowa album you can hear his string really lose. he uses Earnie Ball strings though, i really dont see a point to 5 string basses personally, unless you REALLY need it, anything around drop A and higher should be played on 4 string by good bassist

@waretafai oh so its like... playing a guitar? :) lmfao. dude. use your brain. the more strings, the more notes there are, the easier it is to hit the notes, the closer the strings are together, depending on the model the frets are closer together, and the result is that its easier to play because the notes are so much closer together and its basically like your playing on a guitar thats a whole octave lower. anything over 5 strings has ceased to be a real bass guitar in my opinion. horrible
