  • So xP mode is like wine?

  • @ArsonistInUrFirewall yeah but not bad. Wine sucks

  • @KelanDWood

I play WoW and bttf on wine, it is really easy and user friendly. Why does it suck?

  • @ArsonistInUrFirewall theres a lot of programs it can't support and I have a lot of issues with it. I recommend VMWare Fusion, Parallels or Boot Camp its much easier to use

  • dude you woke up my parents with your voice :P

  • dude you woke up my parents with your voice :P

  • If your pc is unsupported and you still want or need xp mode than look up something call VMLite

  • @EatenSniperGuy sell out

  • @StrangerUnidentified What do you mean by "sell out"?

  • @EatenSniperGuy i was just joking because you were advertising lol

  • hi after getting your reply i whet looking for the file "Windows 6.1-KB9 17607-X86" on Google and on Microsoft and found nothing, even Google had no info on what this file is are what its for. and nothing on where to download it.

  • you're the best nigger

  • Compatibility mode is in every version of Windows 7

  • @jorn89 Correct.

  • I have advice for those using Windows 7 Home. This advice is included in my up-loader comments, in the entertaining video that I have requested to attach here. Last time I checked, all the required software was free, and available for download.

  • @clemstevenson what are you talking about, how do i find this advice you say you have?

  • @billspcclinic If you want to run XP on Windows 7 Home edition, you can download Microsoft Virtual PC 2007. It's true that 'Virtual XP' is only available for Windows 7 Professional, or Ultimate. But Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 is downloadable free of charge, and the software updates make the system even more flexible.

  • @billspcclinic In the case of Windows7, there is a missing 687 kilobyte 'stand-alone' file that is needed by some older programs to run help files. Microsoft have stopped supporting it. This file is a free download from Microsoft, and is entitled Windows 6.1-KB9 17607-X86

  • Hey, I got windows 7 Home edition and I really do not want to upgrade, but I DO want XP mode... Do I need to upgrade in order to get it?? Can I just download XP mode even though I have home edition or do you NEED windows 7 professional??

  • @detroitMC313

Just use compatibility mode. Right click on the shortcut icon > settings > Compatibility > Select it and choose your Windows version.

  • @jorn89 Thankx. I tried that and the program didn't really change. I'm trying to use Fruity Loops (Audio Production Software)... I mean it does still work, but there is some glitchs. Things that just don't look right. I'll try it again though, thanks.

  • im bamige1 and xp mode on windows 7 was my idea

  • You are not eligible to download Windows XP Mode. You must have Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate to run Windows XP Mode. To upgrade visit Windows 7 Anytime Upgrade.

  • I would like to see win xp mode for vista. Just saying is all.

  • so i got a question for u man you seem like someone who can answer it my friend wants to kno wat program the television show used for the power rangers. nobody seems to kno and my question for u is wat program was used to make underworld lycan transformation plz i need your help

  • TROLL!

  • short answer... yes

  • I downloaded windows sp2 on my xp then installed windows 7 it worked

  • Chris, Thanks for your video you have great ideas on the Cad working on Win xp mode. While running Win Xp mode, does this create a virtual pc inside your Win 7 OS? This is something that I do not wish to have.

Also, what are your thought on a Toshiba x505-q885 vs a Toshiba qosmio x505-q890

One is an i5 processor and one is an i7

  • you are very energetic. finally someone who keeps me awake. ha. thanks for the info!!

  • Trying to sound so savvy about certain subjects when in reality you look either unsure or surprised yourself about you say (0:49). Shame on you, don't give me an advice on Windows when you seem to enjoy being surrounded by 4pples in camera. I've never learned ANYTHING watching your vids AT ALL! And I don't think I'm that good either. I wonder how you ever got to be considered a geek. BTW, it was about time to invest in a more decent webcam. After all it was kind of disrespectful to your "fans".

  • @str8out EXACTLY

  • Comment removed

  • right click on the program and click propertysssss and compatible thing and blazzzjammm windows xp SP3 duuhhh it takes to long to download not really but there easy

  • Can't you just set the compatibility mode to Windows XP or something else like you can in the other Windows OS's?

  • @computerglobe you're thinking backwards compatibility dude.

  • @joebg1 no there is a mode in windows 7 called compatability mode which is easier than xp mode

  • Windows the pc's are most apple ;)

  • Windows 7 is a lot better than Windows Xp I will tell you that

  • Or he can select before installing xp compatibility mod on that program and installing it this way.

  • so..where is thhe link?

  • This will only work with Win7 PROFESSIONAL. So that poor guy probably upgraded not knowing this.

  • So that means if I download XP Mode, and I game wont run on Windows 7 that I want, It will run in XP Mode?

  • @evanhawk Hello,

So you're saying that when you had windows xp (or what not) you could run you game, but on Windows 7 you can't. But on XP mode, when you download it you can run that game :) Hope this helped

  • Is there also a vista mode, cause im more used to vista than XP or 7

  • There is a Vista mode, and it's always running. It's called Windows 7!

Seriously, 7 is just a better version of Vista. If you're used to Vista, you'll get used 7 in no time. The only visual difference is the taskbar.

  • you could smear poop on your computer and then take a hammer to it. might be like vista. lol (I'm sorry, couldn't resist)

  • Hi my name is sergio I could you help me I have some problem with my PC Is a Emachines I just instaled a new OS Window visa and I have a 140 GB Of HD but when it first started it apir that I hve 120 Of dates in it when is suppost to be empty there is no files in it how can I fixs this problem plese give me a suggest thanks

  • For those people who use XP programs and they don't work fine on Windows 7, Just right click the program after installing and select "Run as Administrator" > "Always"

Then select either service pack 1, or 2, 3's too recent to run anything dated back three or so years.

  • i have windwos 7 home premium will it run if i instal win 7 prof version

  • i have halo 2 and it won't start its says something about another live game is running and so can't it start. but halo 2 won't work on windows xp? so can i download something like this just with vista?

  • @ShrapmaElite great more stupid 14 years old is taking over youtube.

  • O STFU....what's wrong with that? For all I know you could be 6.

  • > Future of operating systems is virtualization

Future of operating systems is, for some sad people, whatever Microsoft decides it is, for better or for worse.

There is nothing to be gained with virtualizing old Operating Systems.

    Nothing.

It's a dirty hackjob imposed by proprietary software and lack of standards.

If it were Free Software, you'd just take the source and compile on your binary incompatible new OS.

It doesn't even need to be Free Software; nonfree Open Source would suffice.

  • 1:58

    > Kinda genius

Virtualization has been around for a long time, there's nothing new about it.

If you're dependent on XP apps and want to upgrade to a better OS, then just install Ubuntu and virtualize XP there.

Or better yet, try using Wine, and if that works skip using Windows altogether.

  • this is only true for software that does not need to fully utlize the graphics card becouse windows xp mode does not emulate graphics hardware.

  • thanks a lot for this 5/5

  • Windows 7 was my idea

  • @mrhenderson Congratulations.

  • The problem is that XP Mode is only for Windows 7 Professional and better, so generally the people who bought new PCs from the store get Home Premium so that leaves out a lot of people.

"I'll need to update my laptop soon to a PC more appropriate for home use"

If he wants that then he should just stay with Windows XP.

  • @nickjuly4A i think the xp mode is more for those workplaces with company software that was for xp, hence they target them with putting it on Windows 7 Professional and higher

  • @nickjuly4A EXACTLYYYYYYYYYYYY I FUCKING AGREEEE,PIRILLO I SUGGEST YOU GET MOREINFO BEFORE TRYING TO HELP PEOPL BECAUSE I BET THIS DIDNT HELP HALF OF THE PEOPLE THAT NEEDED HELP

  • @nickjuly4A the age of windows xp is over. the age of windows 7 has become! fuck yeah! xp was great for liek 10 years but win7 is tyte.

  • @DaBossk Yeahhh, "tyte" like a thong on my heavy cousin's butt. xD

  • @nickjuly4A tyte like a 12 year olds asshole

  • @DaBossk WTF?.........

  • @Warstormed i like to touch little boys and girls in the bathing suite area

  • @DaBossk Thanx for clearing that up....

    YOU SICK MOTHER FUCKER!

  • @Warstormed looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool

  • @DaBossk ok thats just wrong

  • @nickjuly4A -if you are running windows 7 home premium, yea you cant run win xp mode BUT you can run the virtualization itself-within windows virtual pc.

  • @nickjuly4A you can run windows xp mode on windows 7 home premium.Just search "How to install windows xp mode in windows 7 home premium".

  • 乃工れム 工匕

    sounds scary

  • ill try XP mode, wonder how it affects performance though considering i'm using 6gb of ram and have Win 7 64-bit

  • Criss..>>. Have you ever been to Bahamas? i think iv talked to you befor

  • What 9 out of 10 people fail to mention in videos about Windows XP Mode is that you can run a program in XP Mode without first booting into the machine.

  • windows Vista works fine for me and it never crashes no mater what i'm doing

  • is windows 7 good? is it stable and reliable to use??

  • i agree when he says bing it and also i like when he looks nervous when he says that is it!

  • Chris sounds so sinister when he says 'Bing it'

  • i was so excited for xp mode.. unfortunately it fails on most pc..

    'Hardware Virtualization required' :(

  • was no problem on my pc. I had to enable SVM and AMD-V was enabled. and I could install XP Mode and run it. its great for ancient software for XP

  • is it any 7 or do u ave to have profesional or ultimate

  • It is for Professional, Enterprise, and Ultimate, not Starter, Home Basic, or Home Premium.

You can try the Compatibility tab in the Properties box, I'm sure Windows 7 still has it.

  • Yea cool video, you probably should mention that it doesn't work for any of the home editions of Windows 7 except for "Ultimate"

  • is there a performance hit for running in compat mode?

  • Windows 7 also has a compatability mode.

  • XP mode is for Win 7 pro, but not Home.

    :(

  • i think xp programs will run at windows 7

i have a xp program...it runs smoothly in my windows 7 home premium

  • how do you have your whole monitor mave nothing but live chat on it?

  • They should be able to do this for everything. Like be able to play Playstation One games on Playstation 3 (example). Why should you buy , new games, for a new system? Of course... it's for the money.

  • Pain in the ass if you ask me.

  • Bing it!

  • Windows XP Mode is only available on Windows 7 Professional or higher.

You may need to enable Hardware Virtualization Technology on your BIOS to run Virtual PC.

I love Windows XP Mode and use it every day. Using Integration Tools, you can run Win XP Apps as if they were native windows, so you won't have to stare at XP's wallpaper, desktop, taskbar, etc--just the apps.

  • This only works if you have windows enterprise or higher. You cant use it on home premium or starter. Sadface :(

  • oh chris chris chris, you call yourself a geek??? It only runs in Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate and versions above home premium!!!

  • @LeetRecordings i agree..

  • so you can BING IT!!

  • you don't like Windows Vista.. :)

    Windows 7 FTW!

  • Windows XP mode is bullshit. It only runs on TWO processors.

Either a Intel VT-x or the AMD variant

  • does it matter?

all AMD processors from 2 years ago and all upcoming processors support AMD-V so I dont really see a problem

and besides, nobody uses VIA processors cuz they suck balls

  • I never mentioned a VIA processor.

  • I know, but there r only 3 CPU manufacturers, and I want to know what your problem is with XP mode

  • No, it runs on a ton of different types of processors.

  • XP Mode is no different than taking Windows XP and installing it in VMware or VirtualBox.

The difference in XP mode is, Microsoft gives you an automatically activated copy of XP already preconfigured to run in a stripped down Microsoft Virtual PC VM. It also -requires- Intel VT-x or the AMD variant to run, which is a bummer if you don't have the proper CPU with that technology in your system.

However, Virtualbox is free, and you can install XP there without that CPU feature fine. :)

  • If you're patient, a LOT of majorly used software will be updated for Windows 7 if not already. Windows 7 was a huge release, and lots of people upgraded. There's enough incentive for software manufacturers to ensure things work in 7, via a patch/upgrade package.

Now, businesses have this XP mode to use, but there are alternatives even to that! Businesses are slow to upgrade, so many are still on XP anyways.

If you're using CADs casually at home, you probably didn't even spend money on it!

  • got win 7 home prem x64, never needed xp mode. Only had one or two probs with java running x64 (odbc drivers for db manipulation) but with x64 it installs x32 components under Syswow (took me ages to realise this so used the x32 odbc manager and all worked).

Cant rly see the average home user needing to pay the extra ££ for win 7 pro or higher (and it's quite a bit extra)

Xp mode is not rly 'free' as you need to spend extra in the first place as you need pro or better. So says the ms site.

  • 90% of stuff that works on Windows XP will work in Windows 7, if not running in compatibility mode has worked fine for me.

I haven't run into anything except drivers that needed to be changed for Windows 7. I also went from a 32bit operating system to a 64bit operating system.

  • If it has not been mentioned, XP mode will need Pro, Ultimate or Enterprise. NOT Home Premium.

  • XP mode is for professional and up :(

  • **rant**

Why do people feel the need to use xp mode in windows 7. Move on already! XP is YEARS old. Ok, so you happen to have a software that doesn't run on windows 7. I guaranteee you there's a software which does the same job that DOES run on windows 7. I, as a poweruser have never ONCE run into a compatibility problem in Win 7. XP mode is intended for businesses/corporations/professionals who have no other choice! If you're a home user, you DON'T need xp mode. it just wastes hard drive space

  • @sickspastic y not just switch to linux and forget about it

  • because i have a high-end system that i run top spec games on. compatibility in Linux is terrible, and it causes headaches. everything in windows 7 just works. no need for tweaking scripts and command line. i'm a big fan of linux, but i can't use it for them reasons.

  • why has this been downrated? like it or not, linux fanboys, linux is NOT designed for gaming. For cutting edge games to run smoothly, windows is needed (or many would also work with os x). I already mentioned i'm a linux fan. It's just not good for gaming. Even with Wine.

  • Let's not. Windows is better than Linux, with compatability being it's main vantage.

  • @james227uk i really dislike windows. to many restarts and viruses. for every windows program there exists a better linux program

  • I have only had to restard mine for updates and the occasional lock up where I try to do too much, and overload the CPU. I also haven't had a virus for the past 5 years.

  • @sickspastic You obviously don't spend money.

    Solidworks, Pro/e , CATIA are like $10,000+

CORE IMPACT Pro costs for than $50,000

    Softimage Face Robot - $94,995

    Renderware SDK-- $200,000

    VxWorks - $200,000

Source Engine - Estimated over $200k+

    CryENGINE - Estimated Over $200k+

But yeah your right, just throw it in the trash and buy it for Windows 7 because everyone has $400,000 to throw in the trash right?

  • unless you're a professional, there's no reason whatsoever to splash money around left, right, and centre. for the average HOME USER xp mode is NOT needed. Microsoft themselves realise this, which is why xp mode is only available for professional and ultimate editions. i maybe have 2 pieces of software that i had to pay for on my system. everything else is freeware. (games being the exception of course)

  • let me just add, if you're a home user and have spent that much on software, you're a fool, or have money tho burn anyway.

(no offence intended, just my opinion)

  • sorry for the string of comments, lol, but i've researched some of the softwares you've mentioned, and NONE of them are what the average home user would use. as i said in my first comment, it's not needed for home users, although i agree, maybe a nice feature for professionals and corporations.

  • @sickspastic I try to use as much freeware and open source that I can.

Of course the best option, would be to either use a non-formatting partition software and put Win 7 on it and dual-boot and test it with a win7 trial, or put in a new primary hard-drive and test it on that, or format your HD and put win 7 on that or find someone with win7 & install it, try less reliable things like running VM software of XP on XP and try it in that, as long as the same VM software works on Win7 the same way.

  • This isnt compatible with Home editions of 7...

  • I had a friend that had a program that installed fine on Vista but not on Windows 7. My friend wishes there was a Windows Vista Mode.

  • er..then your friend is doing something wrong. if it worked on vista, it'll work on windows 7. maybe you just have to set the compatibility mode or set it to run in admin mode.

  • My mobile phone drivers don't work on windows 7 yet they worked on Vista

  • have you searched for updated drivers? or did you switch from 32bit to 64bit?

  • Make sure you have a CPU that supports it though.

  • Why does he do the walking in thing? looool this guys videos get more ridiculous over time.

  • U need a virtualization technology in the CPU to make XP Mode work in Windows 7.

Ain't there a compatibility settings in Vista and 7? Right click on a program and go to the compatibility tab. Then select ur OS.

  • i ran windows 95 programs on windows 7 its great!!

  • Is it just me or did he just say "even if there is issues" in the video

  • 98% of XP programs run on Windows 7 ;)

    100% of mine do

  • If I recall correctly, doesn't Windows XP Mode run only under Professional, Ultimate, or Enterprise editions of Windows 7?

  • @tr2blzr You are correct. You can only get Windows XP Mode with Windows 7 Professional or higher.

  • most of my programs don't even work! and it really pisses me off becouse a message box keeps coming up and you can't close it untill you crl-alt-delete it!

    (sorry for the bad words)

  • will it work on drivers? My mobo driver is outdated and Biostar no longer updates it.

  • My CAD programs worked well for me without glitches on my Vista sp1, back then.

    Go figure.

  • :( this only works with CPU's that support hardware virtualization !!!! if your pc's even 2 years old, IT MAY BE INCOMPATIBLE WITH XP MODE!!!!!!!! I should know, 2008 PC 3.2 GHZ 2GB ram,.

  • What about Nero 6 Suite? From what I've heard this thing won't run regardless of whether you have XP Mode or not.

  • I'm upgrding to Win7 in 2 months. I can't stand vista. My vista has started to suck the fun out of me owning a laptop. I reinstalled Vista 2 days ago and now I'm having bad slow downs and restarts. Vista users should be able to sue Microsoft to get free win7! But no we have to pay more money after buying vista the first time. Way to screw your customers, I should have bought a Mac!

  • lol i feel like im the only one who doesnt have a problem with vista but i do like windows 7 more

  • Ditto!

  • @DJReidak yup or vmware

  • umm ok these are some hard ways the only other way i know to is too manually install the xp files to the registry, or you could just run the program in compatibility mode.

  • You are not eligible to download Windows XP Mode. You must have Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate to run Windows XP Mode. To upgrade visit Windows 7 Anytime Upgrade.

  • If they had this and advertised this when Win7 came out, I bet the sales would of skyrocketed.

  • Virtual box FTW

  • fuck you windows!!!!!!!! Make XP Mode available for all windows 7 users! I have home premium and need XP Mode but i'm not paying 90 fucking dollars to upgrade to Professional!

  • just install virtual box

  • Install Sun Virtual Box then install the image from the Microsoft website of XP. Tada! And with fewer limitations!

  • im with you

  • Errr... anger management?

You made the decision to upgrade to Windows 7. Don't complain because you forgot to research.

One thing you can do is download Microsoft Virtual PC and you can install Windows XP as a virtual machine. Run your programs in that.

  • A couple of caveats. First, as others have said, you need professional, enterprise or ultimate. Secondly, XP mode doesn't have full hardware access, so may not work if the licence is provided by dongle or if you need serial or parallel ports for legacy hardware (not sure how graphics tablets used to connect).

  • @martineyles I think that includes graphic things as well, so no games I think

  • i use window visa and it suckes but i need to get use to window7

  • All very well chris, but xp mode is only supported by windows 7 ultimate and professional. Secondly the processor of the needs to support it too
