right Surfers is a must for Indycar, otherwise , head of IRL has to changed, Assen and or Brands Hatch could be a perfect fit for 2012, they can remove 2 ovals and replace with these 3 circuits so a perfect mix of 6 5 6 will help to push up again the iNDYCAR TO A WORLD SERIES Tony Cotman, pls read and do it take the risk.
@mbas0507 I agree with what you say. But perhaps Silverstone instead of Brands Hatch. It's good news that Chevrolet are coming back to IndyCar in 2012, and if they get the Calender sorted out then IndyCar might just be coming back to the glory days.
@LukeStanton91 these cars went to some rich guys in Europe and america, at least racing but not in the level it deserves, dallaras are VERY UGLY toys compared to these real racing cars. Not sure what will be the future of URL with new cars , its a matter of ideas and expansion plans..the head of 2012 campaign is the same head of defuncted Champ Car, Tony Cpttman, so maybe there is chyance to grow ..but not sure... IRL letters feels like poor show .
@mbas0507 There reports that the person who bought them was going to set up a Series to race them in but that has obviously come to nothing. As I said When Champ Car and IRL merged, they should have used these cars. Also IRL should be a World Series. People like the IRL and when it existed Champ Car in Europe. I come from Britain and with Franchitti and Wheldon being current and former Champions it seems daft there isn't a race in Britain. IRL at Silverstone anyone? Yes please!
@LukeStanton91 you are right, that guy is Ben Jhonston from Atlanta, he bought all that his money can buy INCLUDING MY REYNARD LOT OF CARS ( i am the last owner of Reynard Champ Cars designs Rights and drawings), he also owns ATLANTIC CHAMPIIONSHP now out of the game ( only 1 year in his hands) i hope he can do any god series in the future, but money dont buy succes. it has to be international, well planned etc etc. ...so sad god cars are garaged
@LukeStanton91 ABOUT IRL ABSOLUTELY YES AGREE WITH YOU, it has to be a WORLD series, same target of Champ Car but without T.G and Without betrayers, THEY NEED TWO VENUES in Europe, not to compete with F1 but to give the racing world a second option ( not so dependable of budget , but drivers and team quality ) they need to recover AT ANY COST Surfers Paradise, and kill 2 more ovals- so 6 street 5 ovals 6 road course is a PERFECT MIX ! without comparision !!
@mbas0507 Surfers Paradise is one of the best Circuits of all time. The video of Will Power's Qualifying laps from 2007 blow my mind! The commitment he had was immense, brilliant Circuit. It's now used for Aussie V8's but it should have single seater cars there. The races in Holland at Assen and in Belgium Zolder were a success as I remember, so why not have them in the IRL. Perhaps they should use Spa instead of Zolder though. But I fully agree with what you said, so sad good cars are garaged
NASCAR popularity is in America but F1 is the worlds most popular sporting event. By the way Bill France had a lot to do with the split between CART and the IRL.
i live in oregon and i went to this race this is the final race of portland international speedway and while i was their i read a sign in the pit area telling people of the history of indy car. Portland international speedway is the birthlace of indy. usually people say indionapolis but i swa the sign saying indy was and that they should keep this race for the indy car series.
i really hope the new irl returns to portland and other champ car tracks and gets rid of the boring ovals, leave those to nascar. i am the biggest open wheel racing fan there is and i cant wait for indy tomorrow. i've gone to the portland race for the last 12 years and now they won't return maybe ever. its a great track
No, that been the rumor, but CEO of champ car said its business as usual. Expect 17 to 18 cars at Long beach. And, while we at this, Portland JUST announced they re-paved the surface.
i like all of the traditional tracks ccws goes to like road america, laguna seca (next year), clevland, gold coast, long beach hopefully one day i can put Milwaukee on this list.
Champ cars are great but when they raced on the Montreal Circuit they were over 10 seconds a lap slower than the F1 cars, Champ car fastest quali lap 1.21 F1 car 1.09
I was in the chicane grandstands for this race. I didn't get to my area in time for the start, but on the 2nd lap I saw Justin Wilson (my favorite CCWS racer) blast by on the frontstraight. I also saw the pass Sea Bass made on Wilson during the mid-point of the race. Not an eventful race, as every car completed at least 100 laps, but it was certainly awesome to watch some of the best racing drivers up close in their "offices".
Champcar is much more interesting this year, wouldnt it be great if rules similarto champ car could be used in F1, could you imagine that, f1 racing at St Jovite, Zolder and Assen and loads of others with the DP01, it would be just too awesome, ofcourse itll never happen butwouldnt it be great if champcar replaced F1!
I don't know about replaced.. cough. I hope you're not too serious. But anyway, I see what you mean. Aero in F1 needs a huge rethink, just like this AMAZING 2007 Champ Car season. It's at its best for ages..
Are you serious LanciaS4?, no it wouldn't be great, there's no way to compare the two series. Formula 1 is a CONSTRUCTORS championship, Champ car is cool, but will never be Formula 1, in champ car there's alot of teams with the same chassis, it's acheaper series, why do you think Bourdais wants to go to a small team of F1 instead of keep winning championships in champcar, Formula 1 is the ultimate racing competition and it will always be.
Further, I did not think they were slow. Even in F1, they seem to "hang" forever in time before they start moving. That several seconds after green when the cars seem frozen in time is rather cool.
Further, there is not traction control. and this is just driver skill...
I have no idea why you think a rolling start is better here? Those Portland starts have usually been quite messy, and this start was all very professional looking.
Rolling starts are completely lame - it takes real skill and killer reflexes off the line to beat a competitor ahead of you in a standing start. Standing starts are also much more exciting to watch for the viewers so hopefully rolling starts are a thing of the past in Champ Car.
Champ car is a cool series, but they have to do more stuff like F1 to be better, next year that Sebastien Bourdais is going to F1(he's too much for champ car), the championship is going to be better.
I wouldn't want for CC to turn into F1 where only 2 teams have a realistic chance at winning. The playing field is a lot more level in Champ Car and that's great; yeah, Bourdais is better than anyone else but Doornbos is hanging in there so it has been pretty exciting so far this year. Next year will be wide open with Seb gone.
Standing start was exciting except that chicane should have been removed. Would have been more exciting to see a drag race down that long front stretch.
Team Minardi ! Big surprise? Not really. From F1 to CHAMP so I expected them to be competitive.
Thanks for uploading. The lame camera work from ESPN really made the start unwatchable. Hopefully, they'll ditch their director and show the starts like in F1 - where you can see all the action.
I was at the chicane! My dad made me late to the race but i saw Boridais pass Wilson a couple of laps after the second pit rounds. Not as wild as that canadian race F1 had OH MAN!!!
Justin would get a good start... He's done plenty of standing starts in F1.

Well then, why is NASCAR the most popular Motorsport? Indycars are right behind it! Rolling starts have made racing what it is today!

Only in America outside of it F1 is more popular than NASCAR.
