@tucanoman no this has nothing to do with Mongolia. This a game women played when the men were gone hunting.. they would stand face to face and sing these sounds until one laughed.
Men would song-duel, but it was usually to solve grievances. This is different from throat-singing, as they perform humorous, song composed attacks designed to mock the opponent--they could be brutal--and please the crowd. Everyone comes out, listens to the duel and applauds/sides with the singer they find most entertaining. In this way the crowd decides who wins without a violent solution. If one of the duelers really isn't happy with this, they could progress into fist-fights.
Hey. I'm an Anthropologist (Archaeologist), but a cultural background is fairly common for all US Anthros. This is just one of the random tidbits I've picked up over the years. There are several readers that contain the information, but I believe it stems from some of the works of Knud Rasmussen in the 1920's. I'm glad you liked it. A knowledge of other cultures can enrich your own life, as well as enhance understanding of others. :)
@Agett Knud Rassmussen and Peter Fruechen rocked. They contributed more to the understanding of the Inuit culture than all the academic anthropologists ever spawned
The roots in Mongolian throat singing and costume are pretty obvious, aren't they?

Thank you for sharing this. This is AWESOME! The world will be a horrible, horrible place if cultures like this are gone and lost forever.
