@aquariumlover1 no corals for this tank (not enough light for corals). I have been thinking of adding more white sand to the bottom so cover it up nice again.
What size tank is that and what filtration do you use? My largest tank is only 75G, using a Fluval 304 canister filter and an AquaClear 300 HOB filter. Pretty basic.
I ask because I plane on doing something like a 120G+ tank next, looks like you have perfect water movement in there.
@Ispintechno1 it is a 55 gallon tank with a fluval U4 filter which is rated for about 50gallons, plus a 'hang on back' filter' (marineland pengiun) also rated at about 50gallons.
@polevaulter6916 the salt isn't that much. Depending on the side of your tank, you will probably spend at most $75 on salt for the tank. As tank water evaporates, much of the salt is left behind, so top-ups don't require much salt at all. You do need salt during water changes. Some people do water changes very often, like once a week. I don't do them that often. I do a water change about once a month(25% to 40%). So once a month I add some salt, usually about $3 to $4 worth.
@earthling1984 also, some people buy 'RO' water, and other 'special' waters from the pet shops. I find these products to be gimacks. I do use filtered water(filter on my faucet) and I add salt in a 5 gallon bucket with the water, then add to my tank. I haven't had a problem with my tank and it has been setup and running perfect for about 3 years.
@earthling1984 Depends what you want to do and how long you plan on keeping your livestock. A RO, preferred RO/DI might be important in your future if you plan on expanding or keeping more difficult animals besides an eel and chromis damselfish. Also better to buy the unit (and more cost effective) given the amount of water changes you should do than buy individual containers.
@vineeth1305 actually, I am kind of upset and the store 'beyond the reef'. I let them know my tank had an eel in it only, and that I wanted some new fish/inverts. Well I got the fire urchin and the crab from them the same day; and they knew they were going in the same tank. Told me they are just fine to mix... well, they weren't, the crab ate the urchin! Another example of poor advice given from a pet store :(
@polevaulter6916 Not much probably. All it has is a couple filters and a heater and a pump. I'd guess $5 to $7 a month to run all the elctronics on it. Food is pretty cheap also for fish, I spend usually no more than $10 a month to feed all my fish tanks/turtle tanks.
@Risqeh Land hermit crabs need air, but marine hermit crabs like I have - they have gills and get their oxygen from the water, they don't need to surface.
very nice new tank, my male and female are in the breeding tank, they're finally meeting each other for the first time, so hopefully, i can get some video tonight.
I'm hoping to wake up tomorrow and hopefully see a bubble nest going on. :)
@TheMegaInferno not much, chromis are only like $5 a piece, the crab was like $15, and the snowflake eel(which you didn't see in this vid) was like $22
ur eel was having a nice dream. He killed mario and he got a gold medal :P
