My grandma just passed away Feb. 7th .. the music I usually listen to when I'm going through something like this is really sad music. With my grandma I listened to a lot of things she liked such as Led Zeppelin and the Doors. My own selection that helps me cope are instrumental music and I been listening to a lot of Judas Priest, their song Angel is beautiful . She was like a mom to me and I'm going to miss her so much...Thanks for sharing.
I lost a older brother, and the music i used was Iron Maiden, but Live tracks. all live tracks. I listened to that for a week straight, cause it was his favorite band, but also, cause it was so powerful to me. Whenever I want to forget something for a while, I listen to Iron Maiden Rock in Rio 2001. For two hours My problems were gone, for I was at that show. Even though I wasn't, I was there, with 750k people who are all just like me, and for that glimpse of time, nothing can bring me down
Megadeth - A Tout Le Monde, Pink Floyed - Wish You Were Here, Rush - Afterimage, Shinedown - What A Shame, Tool 10,000 Days (both parts), Linkin Park - Leave Out All The Rest, Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird, Dream Theater - The Best Of Times, Alice In Chains - Black Gives Way To Blue, Alter Bridge - In Loving Memory, Blackbird, Wonderful Life, Dead By Sunrise - Fire, Evanescence - My Immortal, Ozzy Osbourn - See You On The Other Side, R.E.M. - Everybody Hurts, 10 Years - So Long, Good Bye
when my aunt died the two songs I had to avoid were "crying" by roy orbison and "mother" by john lennon. those two songs made me bawl. when my friend's father died, she listened to beatles and white stripes because they made her feel happy. most important, lean on those around you who will listen and help console you. i really enjoy your videos!
Really sorry about your loss Sammi, this makes me think of my grandma who is not dead but is dying. I haven't had a significant person in my life that has died but i had pets die and had to be out down and that was pretty hard and devastating for me. The music i would listen is something really sad and slow, stay strong Sammi.
When i was a kid my mom died. I've also lost both grandfathers, one grandmother (with the other well on her way) and a good friend of mine shot himself from bullying at our high school. In my experiences, the best thing to do is for me was to ask someone else, "what was kind of music did they listen to while they were alive?" Its emotional and hard but if you just sit and listen to the music of those peoples lives, its like your getting to know them all over again and its like they r with you :)
Last month I lost my grandfather and at the memorial service I was reading ths Slash autobiography book. I couldn't listen to music cuz everything was too sad and too quiet, to help me forget just for a few moments what have happended, but the book took me me somewhere else, and I don't even like to read. But the book helped me cope with his death... And I remember the first song I listened when I knew, Dream On by Aerosmith...
My grandfather died recently and I think my mp3 player just knew what I needed to listen to and played "I walk beside you" by Dream Theater. It kinda hit me in the chest at first then I listened to it properly and knew that I should be strong for my family and that I'd always have someone beside me, even just in spirit.
That sucks, I love my Grandma, in fact I love majority of elderly people that she lives with, seriously they are the most friendliest people I've ever had the pleasure of listening to.
If you get some spare time seriously try to Volunteer at an old folks home, some of the stories they have are hilarious, sad, wise, so many awesome anecdotes.
RIP To your Grandma Sam.
My Grandmother needs a Double Bypass Heart Surgery, she is 84, I really hope she pulls through, I will snap if they botch it.
i went through something similar a few months ago. My Grandfather, who really wanted me to be in marching band, which I did do after some arguments with parents and personal experiences, died early in the morning on the day I took my semester one band final. It was almost... poetic, in a depressing sorta way.
One of my best friends died of throat cancer last December. He was 15, and one of his favorite bands was Avenged Sevenfold, so we listened to a lot of songs like Seize the Day, So Far Away, and Fiction.
Sammy I know what you are going through My grandma died two years ago I feel for you I still feel sad every once in a while but rember sammy you have overcome the sad feeling trust me it better to overcome it. I didnt listen to music at the time so that made harder for me but remember it is better to be happy she is no longer suffering then be sad be that she is dead so Rock on and hope you quickly get better because trust me I know it hard
I went through the same thing as you Sami... My grandfather passed away last June and these songs seriously helped me so much. They are so true and passionate (not to sound weird or anything...) and if you really listen to the lyrics I promise they will help.
- 3 and remember, no one truly dies until they are forgotten. She'll always be with you. :)
I lost my mom and brother in a car accident last year. Hardest thing I'll ever have to deal with. Not sure if cope is the right word but this song definitely stirs up the emotions, but in a good way...
A silver Mt Zion - "He Has Left Us Alone but Shafts of Light Sometimes Grace the Corner of Our Rooms". Unlike a lot of peoples suggestions here, this is not just because the music title perceives images of death! it is a truly remarkable album that can be used as a coping mechanism for death, and all things sorrow.
Amnesiac, the entire album. Most importantly, Pyramid Song, but I figured that you (Sammi) might like to listen to that if you haven't, simply because you're a huge Radiohead fan.
Helped me through some very hard times in life; when something serious happens, I don't want lyrics to help me understand things or tell me how another person felt, I just want to accept what has happened as part of the human experience, and the powerful piano strokes of Chopin help bring a bittersweet calmness to me when I am feeling overwhelmed by another one of life's curve balls.

I Will Follow you into the Dark - Death Cab for Cutie
Forever- Dropkick Murphys
As someone who's had to cope with death very recently Sami, just know that whatever happens, your friends are always there for you and remember the good times, not the bad. I don't know if you believe in God but I'm sure he made a place for your grandmother in Heaven. May she rock it out in this world and the next.
the ultimate song about death an coping with death... orion- metallica. they say cliff wrote that song knowing his time was coming up. i have no experience in it working because i lost my grandfather a long long time ago before i knew what music was. just suggesting for you man. stay strong.
I feel bad postin this late man i couldnt watch this on time. Dude I'm really sorry about that man.
If I were you I'd listen to Just Breathe by Pearl Jam, Sunshine by Atmosphere, that's just a feel good song, Hey Mama by Kanye West. Look up the band The Morning Benders, they have great songs. To get in a different state of mind I listen to Funk. I don't know. Like Bootsy Collins just has a goofy voice that makes me laugh. Just a thought.
can't really think of any music just go for hairbands that's a good distracion at least it keeps your mind off stuff for a bit but might i suggest the late great Mach Man Randy Savage he did some rapping and not to dance on his grave but it's funny as hell it'll cheer you up
know the feeling, I lost my cousin, who was more of a sister to me this year. The songs I listened to: Details In The Fabric By Jason Mraz and James Morrison Plane, A Beautiful Mess and Mr. Curiosity by Jason Mraz In The Mourning by Paramore So Far Away by Avenged Sevenfold Don't Let Me Down by Leona Lewis Dead Hearts by Stars Don't Go and Blessed With A Curse by BMTH How He Loves by Flyleaf Oncw When I Was Little by James Morrison Deathbed By ThereForTomorrow and Relient K
I'm really sorry to hear about your grandmother man. I was almost crying watching that video, you could see from the vid that your devastated. And as for the song, some of the songs i listen to when I'm really down are Everybody Hurts-REM, and James Blunt-Goodbye My Lover and No Bravery
My grandad passed away last sunday. I'm rather devastated and i can't really bring myself together this past week.
