To explain to foreign viewers outside the Uk who think we might be crazy reminiscing about this stuff...In the 60's and early 70's there were only 3 channels in the UK and very little TV during the day. Consequently there were long periods of the test card with light music and the occasional test film so that TV dealers could sell sets. Many British kids at home on holiday watched these films hundreds of times and know the test card and engineering announcements music well too....
Remembr it well especially as we are served by Stockland Hill. I have visited Evoluon in Eindhoven and have the 'Home made car' film on tape. All very nostalgic.
Simon - in the last few years of Service Information's run, IIRC Gharbar was indeed shown on Wednesdays - pushing that day's bulletin to 11.30. Thursday's bulletin tended to be a little longer and include other items of trade interest at times - along the lines of the IBA's Engineering Annoucements.
It's certainly the closest I've seen, though ISTR that the run down to the announcements back when the logo you've used dates from was accompanied on screen by the BBC2 "Roman numerals" clock with a notice next to it before the caption you have came up when the announcements started. That changed when the clock changed to the same thing as BBC1 and later stopped completely when Swirley replaced Walk and Talk. I could be wrong though... it was a very long time ago!
Oh to hear that pre-engineering announcement music again - note for note as I remembered it from, what? 30 years ago? 35? Wow.
This used to be shown around 1030 Wednesdays, BBC2, as I recall - but then I can also remember Asian magazine show Gharbar at that time. Any info out there?
Also mistie710 - I also remember the clock accompanying the music - and I remember it as being green - like no other BBC clock. Again, any clarification would be great.
@simonvaddan thanks glad you liked it......this recon would be around about 1968/1970 that i remember. However most of this is a recon, testcard pic from a still....the transmitter pic would have been limegreen(the pic there was used from someone else) so i cannot take the credit for that also the same for the anouncement which was from 1973 and for here edited shorter(had to remaster the sound abit). The bbc 2 ident was again from another site along with the ttc film but edited together by me.

Track 1, "Donald", was actually featured in the trade test colour film "Evoluon" .
Track 2, "Mexican Marmalade" was from the TTCF "The Home Made Car"
Track 3, "Walk and Talk" was of course from the Service Information bulletins.
None of the three tracks were actually included on any BBC trade test tapes . . . but hey . . . it still sounds good!

Hah, them were the days. Playing with my cars on the floor with this sort of thing in the background as my 'nanny'.
Years later, the same thing but with looping Ceefax pages. My parents always seemed to be asleep!

Excellent - one of the best, realistic repros on YouTube - even down to the voice!
