  • I like Forego but i miss Ruffian

  • Ahh. We'll probably never see one Triple Crown winner again, let alone two.

  • Just another great day to be alive. Forego leading the post parade and betting the Great Seattle Slew that day over Affirmed!

  • With all due respect to Affirmed and his accomplishments, he sort of looked like a filly with his mane braided and upper tail wrapped compared to the fire-breathing, war-dancing Seattle Slew. There was no way Slew would ever let Affirmed get in front of him...in this race or any other. And I'm reminded why I disliked Jimmy The (jerk) Greek after hearing him on the video.

  • Thanks cf for another "blast from the past". What a treat for fans that day as they witnessed two triple crown winners slug it out. Didn't Forego look wonderful. Ears pricked and with the easy walk of one who more than earned and deserved the cheers and applause of an appreciative crowd as he led the field out. Great stuff.

  • amazing! thanks! you have the best videos!..amazing how revered forego was vs barely an excited breath for affirmed and especially seattle slew..!! 3 legends..but seattle slew's accomplishments at stud created amazing runners and winners! thankscf1970...

  • Thanks CF1970. I saw this race on TV when it happened & was a big SS fan!

  • So nice to read your comments, sir. You're a fortunate man to have been able to watch the golden years of horse racing on TV. I wish I had been so lucky.

Please stop by again anytime! Your presence has been missed here.

  • Wow cf , this footage is absolutely fantastic ! What a thrill to get to watch this video of the much -respected Forego , the great Seattle Slew and Affirmed . I love the analogy drawn between Affirmed and Borg :D

Thank you so much my dear friend . Enjoyed it !

  • Always a treat to read your comments, my friend! I liked the Affirmed/Borg analogy, too; tough as nails, but very graceful at the same time.

Glad you enjoyed the video! Have a wonderful weekend! :D

  • Seattle Slew has always been my Big Horse. I saw the fire back in his eyes at the Meadowlands a few weeks before this race when Dr. Patches (no slouch himself) beat him in the Paterson. I knew he was back from his near fatal illness and went to Belmont that day for the only time in my life knowing that a horse absolutely would not lose. Also great to hear Chic Anderson on the call, gone way too young. Bring back the days! Their all at the big track in the sky now.

  • Another who saw The Slew in person...I am more than envious, to say the least! Great comments; I really enjoyed reading them. Chic Anderson was a master announcer. Sorely missed.

    Thank you.

  • Very nice post indeed wow Forego...leading an awesome group of horse flesh. Affirmed was my horse as well in here..perhaps Slew owes this one to Alydar..for the rivalry certainly took it's toll ..what a shame to let Slew get out to such an easy lead fractions of 24 47 with no challenge. Take nothing from Slew..truly a great horse...i get excited just thinking back to this race..thanks again for put it up!!

  • You're very welcome. Thank you kindly for the comments.

  • This video DRIPS with greatness!! Forego, The Slew, Affirmed...all on the same racetrack on the same day? Wow.

    .

And I see Equistory's comment below. That's quite something, too. :-)

    .

Thanks so much, CF. These videos of yours are treasures.

  • Thank you, my friend...and I agree with you totally; what a lineup that day!

  • I never thought I'd get to see this - thank you so much for posting one of the top three greatest days in racing history.

I was there that day, a 15 year old kid who didn't realize that Triple Crown winners were so rare (we were spoiled in the 70's).

Somehow my dad got box seats that happened to be next to the Turners! Like a fool, I bet on Affirmed but I was glad to see how elated the Turners were when Seattle Slew silenced ALL critics forever, by beating one of the gamest horses in history.

  • Amazing to read your story...you're so lucky to have seen these legends up close and personal.

Thank you so much for sharing. I appreciate the comments very much.

  • Forego was great, definately one of the best. =)

First time I`ve seen this race, lol

I was rootin for Seattle Slew. :)

  • Thank you for this. Forego my favorite horse .

  • The big "Freight Train" is one of my favorites as well. You are very welcome. :)

  • i knew the slew would do it he was such an awesome horse! thanks for posting!!

  • Agreed. Thanks for commenting.
