I just got back from a 35 day TDY in Hungry 2 days prior to this Airshow. It wasnt that busy surprisingly. Too much time with no planes flying.. I got bored and left. Poorly Planned Airshow. Not a single Heavy Aircraft showed its potential as far as performance, like Unrestricted climbs, Tactical Landings etc etc... Sad!
I also have good memories of McGuire. Stationed there, on active duty, from 1972 to 1977 (438th AMS). Then, as a civil servant (from 1984 thru 1992) in the 438th and the Blue AMU. The AMS assignment, as a G.I. and civilian was great! The AMU was a nightmare. But I really enjoyed working on the 141, both the A and the B model. Great airplane; sorry to see it go to the bone yard.
Then we may have crossed paths... I was 621 AMS. Your right, C-141 had Reliability Rate double, sometimes tripled of the C-5 fleet in Dover. If I am right, wasnt the 141 at WRI usually in the high 60% a time or two in the 70 percent range? for some reason 63-66% was avg...
I agree, since being threatened on the Base Alignment and Closure list many times, The base turned into a political Fiasco. McGuire had the highest turnover rate of any Air Force base in the world. That is fact. Pilots around the world hated flying into McGuire. Thats sad.
I'm surprised to have found this. I was one of the loadmasters in this airdrop. What you don't see in this footage is my supervisor hanging out the door and waving to the crowd on the ground.
Great vid. Brings back alot of memories for me. My dad was a flight engineer on the c-141's at Mcguire and retired out of there in 1975, I lived on base housing and Mcguire was great place to live as a kid.

The C-141 is a great cargo plane. I really wish that they did not exit this massive giant.

@PaganEgyptian I believe this was the first airshow that I saw a C-17 go in reverse on its own. My job dropped and damn near messed my pants

I stationed here working on these birds at this time (305th AGS). It was sad to see them go...extremely reliable for the age of the fleet in my book
