Are Lions Lazy?

The reason they sleep for 20 hrs a day is because they are so efficient at hunting large animals they CAN sleep 20 hrs a day.

I you could get ALL your work done, clean, drink, eat etc in 4 hours wouldnt you relax for 20hrs? I would.

Good video. Quite a lot of people believe that male lion is lazy, and that's not true at all. Lion watch his territory to protect his pride and himself from very usual and dangerous enemies (mainly huge prides of hyennas and other male lions) and by the way alone male lion hunts (usually large preys like buffalos, etc.) to eat himself and to feed his pride, etc.

my favourite felines would have to be: atlas lions, sub saharan lions, african leopards, bengal tigers and i suppose white tigers too if most of them hadn't been genetically modified

Yeah, some of the tiger vs lion debates are fun to look at, because the majority of the people who debate in them are ignorant about their animal, but you are not.

Tigers are larger ( a wee bit). They can swipe with both paws because they have better balance in their hind legs. Tigers lack the pack mentality

which means they hunt alone vs. a group of 3-4 lionesses.

And from the time I've squandered watching those vids they look a lot more agile too.`

I like lions more but my hats off to the tiger.

In most cases you'd think the wits of the cat would determine the outcome.

tigers are only slightly heavier on average and that's only the siberian tiger.

and i don't think they swipe with their paws they stand on their hind legs and 'box' that's the tigers style.

nah if (impossibly) an african lion pride was to meet a tiger in the wild the male lion would deal with it not the whole pride.

yeah you're right tigers have a more flexable spine which makes them more agile.

but due to the lions explosive agression, mane, and fighting experience i'd give it to him.

All predators sleep 20 hours a day. I don't know why people call lions "lazy" when they aren't the only ones who sleep that much. Even the "noble" and "hard working" tiger spends 20 hours each day cat-napping.

I would be lazy too if i lived in africa where its over 100 degrees there on a ytpical day! Heat is the reason conserve their energy throuout daylight. They prefer to hunt during nigh time.

its a way of conserving energy for an active, nocturnal predator. laziness is a characteristic exlusive to the individual, not something used to define a whole species. in nature, survival comes first, not showing off. being nocturnal, they're active at dawn and night and being the most documented cats on earth most videos would be taken at daytime. which i think gave birth to the worst rumour harbored by the general public about lions.
