It's very fitting, at this time of year, to see Santa Claus racing around in Rainbow Road, the most coinciding background with Santa's job on Christmas Eve. It's too bad that Sky Garden from MKSC was discluded, as it would have been much more suited.
I wish they had the original background song for rainbow road, and made the coarse a little more like the first one. But I'm still anxious to play this game when my wii is done from repair :D
"You can see how precarious a good spot for me can be. How is it that other people can go and remain relatively unmolested while I, finding a desperate chance to take the shortcut before the end, get struck with a Lightning Bolt right after I pass by the last set of Item Boxes?"
I don't know if it's because you use the Wii Wheel and have a poor handling of it, but from watching you play I don't get the impression that you're maximizing your potential out there. You just seem to cruise along and get hit a lot.
For starters, you swerve around a lot, which makes it difficult for you to draft or cut corners - two advantages you should be using with automatic to make up for the lack of manual's mini-turbos. Without them, you lack the momentum to maintain a stable position high in the ranks. It may just be the kart - in that case, look for carts with good maneuverability. Also, work on your reaction time and learn to see bullet bills, thunder clouds, and disgruntled star users coming ahead of time.
Thanks for the pointers. Of course, I can't help my reaction times--it's been something I've tried to improve for years with no luck. It takes me a full second to respond to something I'm not expecting to happen, and I've learned it doesn't get faster than that.
I also looked through the video again, and I'm having a hard time spotting when I swerve, other than to nab Item Boxes (which are top priority for me), unless you mean correction from turning too much or too little.
At around 4:49, you supposedly bumped me off the track. From your perspective, you didn't even touch me! From my point of view, I slammed into the side of you and flew right off. I hate when the game glitches like that.
At the beginning of the race, Lord Danswich and I magically ended up in the exact same spot and bumped each other off the track too. I fell off so many times there. I was lucky to have placed 4th.
The map definitely shows you fell off, but I didn't even know I bumped into you. I figured it was some cunningly-placed Banana or someone else's attack. Were you playing as Baby Mario there?
I don't get it. Magically ended up in the exact same spot? Do you mean out of lag, the game "corrected" him to be inside of you?
Yes, the same spot. I remember I was taking that first jump, and he just appeared. It made a series of bumping sounds (like my kart was scraping against his), and I flew off to the right. I watched his recording, and the same happened to him. It was odd.
And yes, I was Baby Mario. I don't see him too often.

@539Luigi I actually do better when I'm using Automatic drifting. I've used Manual before, but then I switched to Automatic.

How can't Bowser win when he has a big supercharged and alcohol injected 540 Cubic Inch Chevy engine with 1500 horsepower?

I'm not sure how Rainbow Road relates to Santa Claus, unless you mean the starry sky.
I'd figure DK Summit would be more Santa Claus-y, since it's snowy and happy.
Overhazard 3 years ago
that's funny considering DK Summit is fave course lol

Because you don't play aggressively. =/

Because I DON'T play aggressively? Hm. I always thought I did play fairly aggressively, just with my own honor code.

And apologies if I come off as sounding arrogant, because I really don't mean to.

Well, I'd like to know how I have a poor handling of it.
