That, or you could just boot your Ubuntu live CD, start up Gnome Partition Editor, and do it all 10 times easier and 100 times faster.

And don't forget about being able to easily make multiple partitions and format them with either shitty file systems such as NTFS, or great ones, such as ext3.

this will only work on the old versions of windows , not on xp or vista.

for win xp you can get the windows 98se edition and the custum version of fdisk!

for vista you can not use the old way , only with te cd-rom!

can some 1 help me . i had windows vista home basic. i downloaded ultimate. the installed it . then i tried 2 install it again but it was an iso file but did not exectracted to the desktop so when it restarted it says an rerror has occured to read the disc ? and i tried 2 burn that disc but extracted it in to a disc so is like a windows vista disc normal. but still says error when reading disck or something like this pls help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you don't have a cd with the windows operating system that you want to use your kinda screwed. FDISK is a OLD method which you have to have a floppy drive for most computers don't have these now unless you got them before the year 2000. This formatthing jaz is now included on the windows cd.

how about on laptop? my old laptop Toshiba satellite M115-S1061 i got broken while im playing cs it got freeze and never let me go to F8 or to desktop. only in F2(BIOS setup) F12 boot menu. when I let it load it says in upper left corner is "j" with blinking shit.what can I do?.I tried using Windows XP pro sp2 and it never worked nothing is happening.I even try the recovery disk came w/that lptp when it got to 55% it got error wtf? that messd up evn more.so if any1 know how to fix,lt me kno pls.

no, XP is different, and so is 2000pro too. Vista (what more people are going to want to do considering this is year 2008.5) is even more differenet.

btw why use 98 boot disk for XP?(you say its the same for 98 and xp) just boot the xp cd and it lets you delete the partitions and create new ones. also it gives you the option to do a quick format for NTFS.

install the new one as secoundary, and Ghost the old one to the new one. then go back in there and hook up the new one up as primary master and do whatever you want with the old one.

if you dont have access/never heard of Ghost, then your new drive should have disk-copying software on the included CD. basically you want to copy the old drive sector-by-sector using whatever drive copy app you have.

when all done, your computer is the same exact setup but is most likely a little faster too.

right. It also deletes all the crap you've downloaded/altered/screwed up. My advice is backup your DATA as long as you have your software disks I say burn down your hard drive every year. You'll see a vast improvement!

1st and foremost you'll need a cd of windows xp and a product key for it. After that load the cd in the cd/dvd boot...press any key when prompted...follow the instructions. Also good thinking...Vista sucks.

Sorry about my delay...yes put the Vista DVD in, reboot your system, as it reboots you'll be prompted to hit any key to boot from cd/dvd. Warning make sure your system can handle Vista and know what your video card model is so you can start off with good drivers!
