Omg I want a 1985 corolla so bad.... like really.... if it was teh trueno. Id die for it... but you got one in 2007!? man cant even drive untill next year... o.0
Sounds exactly like I remember: that darn buzzer, "chirp-chirp" start-up and high idle speed (mine actually would idle at about 2k initially). What a great car! Mine was an '85 hatchback, with same interior color as yours, but different steering wheel.
I wish these great old relics were easier to find. I'm looking for a late 70's or early 80s Corolla to buy. If anyone can tip me off to where I can find one near western PA, it'd be sure appreciated.
@itgleb Yea 850 rpm is written in the manual. At the time of this video, my car did not have an A/C system and had none of the idle up valves that are used to compensate for load from the compressor and the electrical system. I purposely set the idle to 1000 rpm so it would not bog the idle down when turning on the headlights. Right now my car has the a/c system installed and both idle up valves installed so I can now set 850 rpm without without having my car vibrating when accessories add load.
Lmao, Gotta love that XD. He could have just bought the interior though. Still COULD be an 86. Just depends if it came with it or not. 85, 86 are identicle. SO yeah, lol.
ahh, I remember that crazy ignition buzzer. It always sounded awful but hearing it on your video brought back memories. the car in your video looks great, and sounds good too. I had an '85 GT-S hatchback in high school and college. Will always miss that car!
If I'm not mistaken, they switched sometime during the 1988-92 generation. I say that because I once drove a '90 Corolla home from the auction for my friend and it had a chime.
Hey man, sick Ae86. I got an Ae86 red one also. but with black interior. and it is just as nice as yours! But mines Sr5 =/ But runs really damn good.
Also where did you get that steering wheel? I want one of those.

I've been trying to sell my '83 AE86 for about two months now.. It's driving me crazy.
It helps if you're in the S/E QLD area though..

nice, you should adjust your idle though 1600 is pretty high i finally got mine down to 1100 and am happy
hondadude529 2 years ago
Thats how its supposed to be. when cold, idle is high, and when warmed up it goes down to 1000.
if your car doesn't do this the AAV is dirty or broken, or you may have a vacuum leak.
burrogts 2 years ago 7
@burrogts Must be adjusted to 850 rpm, as written in engine disgnostic manual, I suppose...

This is an early 85 model, the later 85's disposed of the garish red interior for a more supple grey.

I have no idea when toyota changed to a chime,
But I disconnected the buzzer a few months after this video. Its true that its annoying as hell.
burrogts 3 years ago
What year did the Corolla switch to a chime since I heard a very annoying buzzer when you put the key in the ignition?
Jac2Mac 3 years ago
