This story has a good morale to it. It teaches that hate is not a good thing and it give a lesson in part of the enviorment; Shoo all the frogs away and you get a swarm of nasty flies. Kill all the cats and you get a house full of rats & mice.
Thanks Garrettk41 for the Daws Butler reference. Wasn't sure but when I was kid I was very suspicious of this guy sounding so much like Huckleberry Hound!
Like the 'Fisherman and Clam' cartoon, this fond memory illustrates that while one might not like something, it is necessary because it either: 1. prevents something even more unlikeable from appearing (this clip), or 2. allows for the desired object to be there as well (the 'fish' clip) Thanks for posting!
That doesn't sound strange at all. The animation is reminiscent of Hanna-Barbara animation... his body looks a little like George Jetson. I'd be willing to be the animators were from the H-B group.
I still think about this clip every time I have to get the fly-swatter! I hate flies! This stuff has got to be preserved as art. None of the new stuff can touch these old segments.
There have been two versions I know. There was one that did not show the man saying he still did not like frogs as this one shows. It stops just as the narrator says he lerned to like frogs. However although he says he still does not frogs in this one I still think he lerned to like frogs at the end because he says their better then flies.
The same thing happened in history. During the Middle Ages the French slaughtered their cats in a fit of religious mania. The rat population exploded, and there was an outbreak of plague. Some idiocy, huh?
The same thing happend when to many snakes were killed because people were scared of them. Because snakes control rats and mice they are now protected. Don,t judge a book by it,s cover.
Hey. I jsut found out that this cartoon aired on episode 560. I was wondering if you have the whole episode 560. Because if you do, would you mind posting up the Trading Game? I've been dying to see that one.
I hope it never comes here for anything. About the cane toads. They were brought into Australia by some dills(idiots)who wanted them to eat some pest cane beatles that were eating the suger cane. But the toads became a pest themselves.
We've got something like that in the American South: kudzu. It was brought over from China to help choke out pesky weeds or something, and it's went and took over everything. Ah hate kudzu! But it's...better'n cane toads.
ha ha- I remember this quite well- used to see it all the time. I like frogs- especially Kermit the Frog! :-) (hmm...makes me wonder how that would have played out if it was done live- like with Bob and Kermit or something...)
So what did the frog eat if the flies left? And what bozo expects that a stream can remain frog-free?

At the end did the frog simply croak, or did he, {As in my opinion} croak, "Right!"

Well at least we know that he upgraded from hating frogs to not liking frogs.

You're right on that! Daws Butler's voice almost sounds like Reb Wolf character from the old Droopy cartoons from the late 1950's!

That's right kids, the only thing Harry Manback hates more than flies is the vile stench of Communism they feed on.
*sigh*
It sucks to be grown up and feel compelled to bring my jaded cynicism to bear on such innocent childhood memories.
