And with the aftermarket support of even the classics, one can make even oldschool Muscle cars driven by people who don't know what racing line is, a beautifully handling car. A lot of them more than likely could. A lot of people start in underpowered cars. But in order to get the kinds of drifts that you see leading people to victory, you need power. Maybe not 7-800hp, but the average for a Japanese D1 car is around 500hp. 3-500 is beautiful. It also takes a lot of skill to drift a high powered car like that. Easily enough you can just turn your car around. Set up and skill are consistently what wins.

And shit which has power (torque) can mean the difference in a huge curving drift like the one in the video ^. And I think Japanese drifting is alot more skilled... Although they don't have many new cars, most cars in D1 aren't being produced anymore (Mazda RX7, Silvia s13 s14 s15, Skyline R32 R33 R34, A hole lotta Evos, even a Chevy Camaro once competed!

It's not a timed race. It's scored based on a combination of your trap speed through a given section WHILE drifting, and how far you can cleanly hang out the drift over the course.
