I have been visiting Gujarat every year, for the last 6 years. Yes it is making great progress. The main reasons are that it is mainly vegetarian and dry (alchohol free) state. Yes, there are the odd drinkers and meat eaters. The corruption too appears to be controlled. The Congress party could learn a thing or two. Narendra Modi would make a much better Prime Minister of India than the 'reluctant' Rahul.
You know what I hate...how every time I see tv shows talking about india, they always seem to focus on one of the most underdeveloped state in India (west bengal). Which bothers me, because westerners always have this perception of seeing india as 'poor' and 'filthy' when it's certainly NOT. Gujarat is a great example in my opinion. Western shows (like documentaries I see on ABC and stuff) always focus on Calcutta, Dehli, etc. They never seem to focus on the prosperous, advancing states/cities!
