  • On the Capitol LP 1959 ... FROM THE HUNGRY I, the performance of the original Kingston Trio (Dave Guard, Bob Shane & Nick Reynolds) is fantastic and very funny, this ... ?

  • I like the Rockapella version better.

  • I listen this song.

  • this version SUUUUUUCKS

  • @AssassinShadow4

I dont think it sux its just nothing compared to the original. I have the LP and its totally different mainly bc of the main singer and the style is a bit different bt all in all I don't think its that bad :)

  • its funny, im only 21 and everyone has seen them and had the original albums but it doesnt matter its all about the music, i love the kingston trio

  • @torchburnwolf glad to hear it! Bob Shane

  • @torchburnwolf

    I'm only 23 bt I love them 2!!!! :)

  • No original members, and not the original harmonies-the high part is absent.

  • they seem in a jolly mood...lol

  • i am 14 years old and I love this song.

my parents and my freinds say I am crazy , because I still hear Punk-Rock but they are really good

  • Who is NICK?

  • Yes, but WHERE are Bob, Nick, and Dave????

  • @kb7rjf

Exactly. Without any original members, what we have here is a pretty decent cover band, nothing more. I was listening to them in the early 60s and forward, when Nick, Bob and Dave were giggin'.

  • Yes, but WHERE are Bob, Nick, and Dave????

  • They look so nice. I would like to be their grandson.

  • Hey, I was a camera op for that...

  • From left to right: George Grove, Bill Zorn, and Rick Dougherty comprise the present Kingston Trio. George is the most longstanding member of the trio, having been with them some 30+ years -- a very delightful person. Bill Zorn, the front-man, is an old folkie who's been in many of the famous folk groups, hell of a nice man, and the man on the right is Rick Dougherty, having come from the LimeLighters and working in local SF Bay Area opera companies. And the music just keeps coming.

  • Actually, George is only the longest CONTINUAL member. Bill Zorn has been the longest term member, albeit off and on. He, Roger Gambel and Bob Shane got together in 1973, and sang together for about 3 years. I'm not sure if at the time they were billing themselves as "The New Kingston Trio", which is the name Bob Shane used for a few years starting in 1970, or if they Bob had reverted back to "The Kingston Trio" at this point.

  • This is like me & 2 guys calling ourselves the Kingston Trio. I suppose the rights were sold, somewhere along the line, but this does nothing to rekindle the memories of the original group.

  • Did the the original three -Dave Gard, Nick Reynolds and Bob Shane- do the song back in the late 50s or early 60s? I think I remember hearing it way, way back when I was in middle or high school (but maybe I'm just having a senior moment).

  • Yep, you're right. Dave, Nick and I did it in the early sixties. It was on our album "from the Hungry i." Bob Shane

  • @kingstontrio 'Hungry i' album was classic. Your joy and enthusiasm for your work was what did it for me. Used to listen to Merry Minuet over and over as a kid - until my brother got mad at me. Saw the trio about 10 or so years ago in Richmond, VA. Nick was there but not singing. Best wishes Michael

  • Who are the three in this video? I assum e the middle one is Bob Shane.

  • It is Bill Zorn, no stranger to the Kinsgston Trio. He was a member in the 1970's. He was replaced by George Grove, (left,) who has been with them ever since, 33 yrs. When Bob Shane gave up travelling in 2004, Bill came back and brought Rick Dougherty (right,) with him.

  • i preffer the acapella version

  • This song is awesome.

  • I have a ludwig knignston banjo. its an old model.how much can it be worth??

  • OVER 9000 USD!

  • i like this song

  • Juhu :DDD

  • i like harry nilssons version better

  • I bought thier greatist hits album back in the early 1960s. and still have the album.

  • Trio because the three of them are the main group. They are singing. They still can have guest musicians:)

  • Well, I doubt that they are still singing nowadays. It's probably playback.

  • does trio not mean 3? i count 4 including the double bass!!

  • at least you guys started on this webquest early, i started it tonight...

  • With all due respect to the K trio who rock, Rockapella does a better version.

  • Well, this is KT 4th generation.I just watched one of the many Rockapella versions on YT - and both in terms of arrangement (to a degree) and staging (thoroughly) the Rockapella version , uh, let's say, borrows heavily from the routine developed by the original Kingston Trio in 1958. This KT rendition is a bit different from its original version, as it should be.

    Rockapella does a great,upbeat version,though.

  • Dude.... no.

  • There's a folk band called Fannigan's Isle who also does a great recording of this song.

  • Hilarious song; I remember it from the Hungry I album

  • My dad had that on vinyl when I was a kid, I've got the CD now.. fantastic stuff! I LOVE the Kingston trio!

  • good song

  • Anyone heard the Harry Belafonte version- he does the accent better,

  • LOL, Belafonte is actually from the Caribbean!

  • Ahmlair. His parents were but Harry is an American!

  • True, but my point was of course his accent is 'better' than that of 3 Hawaii-California white boys :-))

  • The original group were from Hawaii and California. Bill Zorn is an Arizonan (moved there in his early teens). George Grove is from North Carolina. Rick, however, was an still is a Californian (although not a native).

  • just to clarify i only liked the version the spinners did, but i dnt really know who wrote it lol

  • Lord Invader.

  • YAY THE PROPER SPINNERS VERSION thanks you guys very good :P
