washington- alex ovechkin, alex semin, niklas backstrom, kolzig, huet, sergei fedorov

carolina- eric staal, cam ward, erik cole, brind'amour, justin williams, ray whitney

panthers- tomas vokoun, richard zednik, olli jokinen, jay bouwmeester, nathan horton. an the list goes on! how can you say it's the weakest division with all those players?

BTW we lead the division for ALL BUT 15 DAYS!

When 1 team from your division makes the playoffs, you're in a crappy division. End of story.

When 4 of 5 teams are in the lower half of the conference, you're in a crappy division. Those guys might have good numbers but they play on substandard teams. Prospal plays for PHI. The only reason all those star players are in that division because most teams in that division get high draft picks from losing seasons.

aight take out the shoot out wins from every team and carolina is tied for 1st in wins w/ montreal. if the end of tie games didnt result with a skills competition then we'd be in the playoffs. look how all the southeastern teams ended up. they all ended strong with the exception of Tampa bay.

That sounds like a cop out. The shootout is part of the game, I believe it falls under the category of "tie breaking procedure." If the Canes were better, they wouldn't have to go to the shootout. I suppose scoring as many goals as you give up doesn't help your chances at making the playoffs either. Defense helps win championships. It's not all scoring. Plus a goalie is only gonna be as good as the team you put in front of him.

All the talent from those teams packed up & moved or retired. Stillman, Khabibulin, Andreychuk, etc. If the East was so tough, why did the Senators get owned by Donald Duck last year? The East only won 3 cups in a row compared to the 4 in a row the West won in the 90's. It goes back & forth every few years. But it probly wont come around Carolina for a while, so leave the winning to teams that matter & have won multiple Cups.

The difference is Montreal is in the playoffs & the Canes aren't. Multiple Cups do matter, there have been DYNASTIES where a lot of the same players won a bunch of cups with the same team. But Carolina has no long running traditions so I wouldn't expect you to understand this concept. Ducks? Caps? You're way off. Keep guessing.

i'm just saying ducks and caps b/c those were two teams u used in uer comments. traditions? we're only 10 years old, we've made the playoffs numerous times, been to the finals twice, and have one cup. you cant say the southeast if awful when we were 2 points off of having two teams in the playoffs. and if it was the "DOMINANT" western conference, the canes WOULD have made the playoffs! and i wouldnt understand this stuff? why because im from NC and supposed to not know anything about hockey?
