  • music just flows from him all the time it seems

  • such an amazing guitarist..

  • Govan o melhor de todos os tempos!!!!

  • That guy talking about if you don't know this, talking about theory.. that's funny seeing as some of the greatest guitar players ever to walk this earth knew nothing about theory. Hendrix, SRV, Slash, Jeff Beck, Keith Richards..

  • @freaknbigpanda Im sorry, but PLEASE dont say that Slash, and Keith Richards are among the greats. Slash as a guitarist, away from guns n roses, is HORRIBLE, same with Keith. They could not improvise a jazz progression to save their life.... Hendrix , SRV, Jeff Beck, actually have a unique style.....

  • @tastefulphrasing That's probably because they don't like jazz, it's your opinion that you don't like him. That doesn't take away the fact that what he did with GNR was huge.. they conquered the fucking world. You say he's horrible yet he's collectively sold over 100 million albums and your bashing him?? What have you done with your guitar playing career?

  • @freaknbigpanda Hey, try reading my comment, and then comment again. You idiot, I said "AWAY FROM GUNS N ROSES" He is a horrible guitar player. The band is what sold all those albums. He as a guitar player is not that good. He cant play complex things, his phrasing is very basic, there is a reason why I learned music as a beginner, because he plays beginners music.... Its not my opinion about how good he is, its my opinion whether or not I like him...

  • @tastefulphrasing Well what the hell do you even mean away from GNR, you mean the biggest part of someones career you just dismiss that? That was fucking way better then just watching any guitar virtuoso play. You base guitar players just on how technical they play? You really need to broaden your taste for what makes music not just how much someone knows about music theory and how they can apply it to the guitar. Making music has nothing to do with how much you know, it's what you feel.

  • @freaknbigpanda What are you talking about you moron. The whole point was , AS A GUITARIST. As a guitarist he is not good. He may be ok as a guitarist for guns n roses, but even then not so much.... And yes, I do base how more theory and technicality one has, because that judges their heart, and soul they put into it, and their god given gift. If someone doesn't know theory, or is even remotely technical, then they clearly didn't care that much about their chosen instrument...

  • @freaknbigpanda The whole point, was as a guitar player. Look at John petrucci. He is amazing with his band, and he is amazing by himself also. Slash cant do that, because he is not that great... And you are telling me to broaden my horizon, which is funny because you are talking about a guitar player who is a one trick pony. Man I bet it sucks not being able to use even 10 percent of your brain.

  • @tastefulphrasing

You're not seeing the truth. Whilst learning music theory helps people explore their instrument, it is not the only way to attain musical greatness. At the end of the day, music is about what we hear, you don't have to know music theory to appreciate sound, you just have to use your ears. Music theory is a tool to get you where you want to be, it is not the end goal in itself.

  • I would like to see him play anything from Guthrie, Dream Theater, Gambale, Bach, Emmanuel etc. He cant because he is not skilled enough.... He alone with the guitar, WITHOUT HIS BAND, there is not much talent there...

  • [sigh] Love that guy

  • guthrie couldnt mess up even if he tried

  • Bahahaha how would you feel, Guthrie is sitting next to you just lazily playing amazingly, and you're the other instructor whois made to just play chords.. which Guthrie doesn't even need.

    Demorilizing.

  • @creation23 If you are referring to Neville, that is funny, because he is a very respected teacher of music, and the guitar... He may not be able to play as well, but he knows his shit... Its just like a coach not being able to actually play the sport, but can make a team do amazing things. Both are needed.

  • @tastefulphrasing

Neville is a pretty ok guitarist, pretty average. The reason he made a name for himself is he used his Editorship at Guitarist Magazine to further himself.."Respeceted" by the likes of you who probably cant play very well maybe, but not by real guitarists that has put in the practise and reached a decent level. By the way, playing guitar is not a team based effort, but a really personal and individualistic pursuit. Your "coach" bla bla bla just seems ridiculous.

  • Guthrie you should do a sit down with this one guitar player. I can't tell anyone his name yet though. LOL

  • does he just use the notes in the major/ minor scales? or is he doing chromatic stuff? because it sounds so special

  • nice jerry donahue lick @ 0:33 :)

  • the god father!

  • this reminds me of a little gypsy girl :-)

  • @RonHairyMe Ah yes another bogus Tim Halcomb account. Guthrie rules and you are obsessed by your total inadequacy at everything including getting an erection.

  • Neville has spoken!

  • I like how guthrie continues to play with the volume off as neville speaks.

  • the note at :54 <3

  • 0:05 : Godfather Theme!!!

    he is so cool

  • hahah the godfather tune

  • how does guthrie always land on the right notes!

  • over 30 years of experience and religious playing, as well as a UK music school degree. he's the most passionate player i've ever seen.

  • @charleseladas not a chance

  • Just check his interviews.

  • i'm not saying that batio doesn't have passion; just that guthrie literally sings through his guitar. Listen to his album, trust me you'll see. And if you watch him playing he actually sings the notes he plays somewhat. I've caught myself doing that live since listening to him haha.

  • alright

  • he got his scales DOWN

  • is magician xD

  • luck.

  • @Johaneeeek i have the opposite, sorta like a musical king midas in reverse.every note i play turns to crap

  • @strabbs1 Me too! I have the techniques, but I always decide to play shitty notes without wanting to.

  • @Johaneeeek he lands on the tonic, you have to study your fretboard m8

  • @MiguelDuarte18 He doesnt always land on the tonic.

  • @Johaneeeek He has studied Jazz, simple as that.

  • @morkus26 No it isnt.

  • @MrPocketGuitar Insecure meat head alert.

  • @morkus26How? Pretty much everyone was just saying the wrong thing, including you.

  • @MrPocketGuitar Typically arrogant meat heads, "everyone else is wrong etc." I met Guthrie at a masterclass in Brighton and asked him a question along those lines, and he said to me that he felt studying jazz is the greatest way to really understand melodic/scalic relationships, ie. the 'right' notes (whatever that even means). Your argument against? "Duuur, no it not".

  • @morkus26 Cool story bro. I'm sure studying jazz is an excellent thing for creativity. But if someone says " somehow Gurhtie knows how to hit the right note :) " and you answer " that is because he studied jazz". It's not that simple, he started in blues rock, went through times of shredding on an RG, and then jazz. Its not just jazz you narrow minded, stubborn person.

  • @MrPocketGuitar Yeah I'm the narrow minded one *rolls eyes*. Just get back to your Bullet, lame little shit.

  • @morkus26 Wow, you patronised me ! Well done you :) Are you referring to Bullet Blues or Bullet for My Valentine? :S

  • @MrPocketGuitar Fuck off.

  • @morkus26 You were wrong, its not as simple as " hes studied jazz".

  • Comment removed

  • @Johaneeeek

    much experience, believe me :D

  • @Johaneeeek Cos he know what notes matter in a scale....duhhh

  • @RTBM Its much more than that.

  • @Johaneeeek i saw this video from vitor wooten saying "you're never gonna be more than 1/2 step from the right note"... I feel thats just what Guthrie does.... but the techniques that he apply + creativity makes those "outside" notes sound so good :P

  • @Johaneeeek He plays since he was 3 years old. His ears, his brain and his fingers function at the same level.

  • @Johaneeeek He doesn't, the right notes land on him

  • 0:54....

    incredibleeee.....!!!!

  • hehe notice, guthrie is miles away playing silent music in his head while Neville Marten is talking

  • He's like all true guitarists... put a guitar in his hands and he plays, he just can't help himself, hahaha

  • great !

  • know what?

  • that godfather bend just a bit of absent minded improv fun to GG but absolutely floored me!

  • jesus

  • godfather... :49

  • maestro, simplemente un genio.

  • i wanna be in that room damn it!

  • You can be.

  • YEAH!!!!!!!

    nice t-shir Guthrie hehehehe
