  • MyFord Touch is a wreck. I've been the sad owner for over 13 months and still no resolution. It's a crap shoot every time that I get into the vehicle and use the MyFord Touch system, as it freezes up, fails to recognize the phone or USB device, and the voice command system is not reliable. Search YouTube for MyFord Touch problems, this is not an isolated incident. Oh, about the 2012 mystical update to fix all of the problems, I was told that the last 5 updates were going to fix it too.

  • @127001er The new update isn't an update... it's a new computer interface. The screens have been redone, the speed that you can make commands has been improved, the typeface is bolder and larger, the system was redesigned based on customer feedback. It's in beta test stage now and a new software will be mailed to you within a couple of months. Your Ford dealer can help with installation and there may even be an extension of your Owner's Warranty as well. Hang in there!

  • I work with this system as part of the engineering, and this video actually does more good that anything else for Ford. Basically while complaining about the possible downsides, you have also demonstrated how awesome the system really is. Granted, it is not perfect yet, just because it is so new.  It has a few glitches, but they will be resolved with the update that is coming out this quarter. It will be mailed directly to customer's home on a flash drive.

    I love my 2011 explorer and the controls are fine. Your are right about the sync, speaking commands with talkers in the car wont do, thats why there's buttons, remember YOU wear the pants-driver.

  • Dude, really? whine a little more!! I have SYNC in my Fusion right now and love it! Not hard to use at all and it's not weird when others are in my car. They actually go, "did you just talk to your car? That's sweet!!" Go back and play in your 1995 Oldsmo-Buick or whatever out-dated vehicle you have.

  • He complains way too much; I have had the Edge for nearly eight months now and during that time, the system has frozen twice. I feel for a enw product, that is to be expected and I did not make an issue out of itat the first service. The buttons are easily accessible, the fonts are very clear and the voice commands work quite well. Overall, I feel the experience is very techy and responsive and part and parcel of what convinced me to get a Ford.

  • I get it he feels the system is too complicated. I have it and do not think that to be the case at all. If anything it does have glitches but that is an interface problem. The MFT is a good system, just not properly vented for sucess before it's launch. I somehow think in 1 - 2 years this guys response will sound very silly.....Unless you're a senior citizen...and then you don't care about it or use it at all.

  • I think the real problem is part technology deficiency, and part inability of users to handle computers.

    I would like to see an impartial testing between the tech savvy and the tech ignorant. This will tell us how big the portion of problems are due to human error.

  • @Neosaigo I'm and Engineer working for Ford. I work daily with computers and technical equipment. My new 2012 Focus has this system and this guy is right. The voice commands can sometimes either not understand you or, even worse, completly misunderstand what you want. Trying to use the voice command to switch to 'Sirius station 7' ends up on 'AM 760'. Not even close.

  • 1: There is something called a "owners manual" Try reading one sometime. 2: How in hell is it confusing? Seems pretty straight forward to me.. Or can consumer reports not read?. andd 3: Who gives a flip if it looks like a cellphone button? And why would you be wearing gloves in a car?

  • i have a Ford EDGE Sport 2012 model and the my touch system is really easy i don't know why he found it hard

  • ok all you people asking why would you where gloves...up here in canada and northern US temp drops to - 10 F so yes you where gloves to drive at least the first 10-15 minutes of driving to give time for car to heat up..to give all you southern residents an idea how cold 0 F is imagine breathing and feeling the hairs in your nose freeze up.

    When it does actually work the voice command recognition actually gets what I am saying 1 out of 10 times correct.

    I regret buying my 2010 ford edge and have lost all faith in the quality I used to believe ford had.

    What kind of compensation does Ford give out for all the times this peice of garbage needs to be brought in to be repaired?

  • Anyone that said someone is finding something wrong... hey, I would just be happy if we could go 30 days without having a problem with the sync system.... he has my permission to criticize it as much as possible, it is complete crap programming. They should have hired apple to create a system that would work!

    Basically this touchscreen is a peice of garbage which is what I think he is saying.

    Unless you have driven one of these or perhaps in your case even possess a driver license then you havent experience how frustrating it is.

  • in the 2012 focus, the "non ford touch" controls are rotary knobs....which work flawless. Maybe in the Explorer and Edge there are problems with the temp buttons. He should specify what vehicle he is refering to, as all dont have this problem

  • Have you driven other crossovers? Their interiors are full of buttons that are in no logical order. When it comes to CUVs I think the Edge has it done right.

  • Look its frustrating to some people? maybe because they didnt take the time to learn how to use it. i find it amazing. and i understand it had a crash and ford is trying to fix it due to ppl's mytouch system failing. i got an answer for that. its the first year it is out and any clean sheet might have flaws/ problems with it. so dry up. you think that wouldnt happen to any other company? think again.

  • Myford touch was stuck with my usb stick and won't recognize any songs even if I unplug and plug in again ... it's reallly frustrating since there's no reset button.

  • I'm nervous just watching this video and imagining trying to adjust things using those electronic screens. The traditional tactile knobs seem easier while adjusting on the fly.

    Maybe I could get used to it, there's always a learning curve when using a new vehicle. My Mazda's automated climate controls still confuse the heck out of me.

  • You are a whiner!!! There a ALOT of positive features....ALOT more than negative and you didn't mention ONE positive!!! You guys wouldn't have said any of that crap if this was a Honda or Toyota. Ford has better quality than BOTH of those companies!

  • Also, when you're driving, it is hard to find your setting but you do get used to it. And the touch-sensitive buttons have no tactile feedback so when your eyes are on the road it's hard to tell over which "buttons" your finger is hovering. and voice command is like no other. Sometimes it works impressively while other times it doesn't listen well - even when phonetics are ideal. If you watch this video and still buy this vehicle, you deserve to be greatly disappointed.   • I am so confused, not by the system, but by the video itself. I was expecting to see an example of his frustration in the video, but all I saw was the system responding pretty flawlessly to every single touch and voice input.

    Honestly, this video defeats it's own purpose. Sound silly talking to your car with other adults inside? Give me a break, voice recognition has been in cars for a long time, including my 2003 Honda Accord. Consumer Reports should feel silly for making this video.

  • @ckeegan003 I thought it was a reasonable video. It shows the screens full of little icons and numbers, which could be confusing if you're just glancing away from the road for a second. The guy is in a parked car, lighting is ideal, it's no wonder he can do all the settings perfectly.

  • I have played with the my ford touch in a edge, and I didn't find it confusing or have any of the issues he had. But I'm 29 years old, it's obviously not for people that are tech stupid.

  • I am very computer savvy and I have to say, though the product is easy to learn, it is not easy to use. The button presses take too long (inconsistently) to register so sometimes you'll press it a second time thinking it didn't register to find that both button presses registered and therefore cancelled each other out. It's maddening. The voice recognition is terrible and I am a phonetic master! Entering in data for navigation is nightmarish at best...I should record it. Cant describe it!

  • i knew this would'nt work perfectly...up here in northern america, we have something called winter that brings in snow. we have to remove the snow off of car before driving. so we have gloves that can be a bit wet. and let me tell you at -10 F you dont want to take your gloves off and you dont want your touch screen being slow or glitchy when you want maximum heat. I would go with knobs instead of this.I could just imagine going to work on a cold day with out no heating, and my co worker laughin

  • I played around with this thing on the MKX. I have mixed feelings about it. I like the fact that it's similar to a BMS (Building Management system) at my job in the sense that all the different car systems are grouped in a certain way where you select a tab to view it. But it does seem a bit unnecessary and kind of doing the complete opposite of what its intended to do when standard buttons are much easier to use. But I guess its just a matter of getting used to it and memorizing.

  • @keithie13 Well, from what I saw, it not only is hard to operate, but the interface seems kinda laggy.

  • @keithie13 Maybe age does have something to do with it, but lots of drivers are old, so this might be an issue for them. Lots of people are just now turning 60 or 65.
