after freni and a real great lyric/ dramatic in the opera house in Wuerzburg Germany, she's the 3rd best soprano I heard in this role. btw thanks for these contests
Both the Freni and Isokoski performances are the same productions from Paris 26 years apart. I saw this wonderful singer in Der Rosenkavalier at the ROH last year and she was fantastic. Such a great Straussian voice. Hopefully an Elsa to come?
Soile is so classy! But goodness gracious, why did they give her such a small mirror? It looks like a compact! Hahaha
Nevertheless, watched all of them with my Bose headphones. Depends on the sound quality, but I like this and (although generally can't stand her) Gheorghiu the best besides SCOTTO who was just stunningly beautiful in this beyond words!
What a hauntingly beautiful voice! And Soile Isokoski doesn't act half as bad as some think. Not everyone needs to be a poser. She certainly is not, but she is a good actress too. Most important for her is the music, something I really like.
DG recorded a live Faust from the MET with Alagna, who is now a DG artist. Isokoski was the lovely soprano. Rene Pape was Mephisto and he stole the show. As far as I know it was taped for audio only. Levine conducted. Waiting for this release on CD! Then as now, she is impressive in this aria but lacks a real TRILL which is critical in the jewel song, not just a shake. It is in the score!
I'm so used to her being vocally glorious in Strauss and Mozart, I shouldn't be surprized she sounds absolutely gorgeous and creamy here, too! I like her unpretentious characterization -- I didn't realize she was such a natural stage actress. Extremely well done! 5/5

Not bad, but would like more "amused" and less "bat shit crazy". ^_^

Is this 2001 production the same as the 1975 Mirella Freni one? Same city?

taitaa olla joku katkera urallaan epäonnistunut sopraano äänessä...

I here a little bit of schwarzkopf in her, but far more supported. not to bash schwarzkopf but she could be undersupported at times.

Her top is what is most impressive to me... no struggle at all, no matter how soft and delicate it has to be, effortless. Brava to her!

well how to explain this in English...
i find this very 'Baroque' as we say in French. The voice and the phrase are too light probably.
but beautifull anyway.
