  • hey how long does it take to unlock been waiting around 3 days

  • @Cerid01 Hello mate, I have a 3gs locked to 02UK but I have moved to Oz and can't use the phone. I need to unlock it from 02 can you help me at all?

  • what do you need to do so O2 unlocks your 3gs? I have bought a 18 month iphone 3gs originally with O2, what do i need to do to unlock it?

  • it doesn't work with me, basically cause it doesn't switch to "recover mode" from the beginning, i don't know what should i do

  • Is this unlock permanent? I mean if you upgrade the iPhone firmware do you get rid of the unlock?

  • @MyCoolMac yep its permanent. If you get a replacement under warranty that is unlocked too.

  • Hey guys! I just got my text message today from o2, then i put a simcard from 3, connected my iphone to itunes (itnes synced my phone and backed it up) but nothing happend. I still can not use my iphone with a non o2 simcard. Any advices what to do?

P.S. does it make any difference if my iphone was already jealbreaked with blackr1n. can that cose this problem ?

  • hi please help i received text to say iphone unlockd but when plugging it in to itunes is says sim card not supported ive tried restoring factory setting etc as apple informed me but still doesn't work im at a dead end please help

  • Oh and 3 do a £10 per month sim which gets u 100mins, 3000 texts, 1gb t'net and free twitter, skype and messenger

  • I emailed o2 on 10th nov 2010 asking them to unlock my iphone and they said no problem - did it for free and only waited 4 days, saves using all the blue/yellow/pink snow carry on. Phone up your carrier and pester them

  • @lupakuehh upgrading the software won't lock the phone. In some cases you may have to make a backup. Restore to original setting then restore for the backup.

  • this thing worked

    easy peacy

  • I have unlocked my iphone 3gs using this method. Im still using version 3.1.3, if I update my iphone to 4.1, will my iphone still be unlocked?

  • hi man where do i find a form to fill out for the unlock?

  • I guess this is only for iPhones bought with O2-UK? They can't unlock phones from other carriers? (they are so annoying here saying that "No we can't unlock within a year from when you bought it" BULLSHIT I SAY!. But yeah, i guess they cant do it on a foreign iPhone at O2? :( )

  • hi there . this video is absolutely good .. thank you soo much for all ur videos

ba i a have got question: an i need ur help pls

i want to get iphone but i really scared ,coz 1 of mates tell me that ( if you jailbreak the iphone and u update the itune software they might block the phone) or staff like that

i dont know it is some thing relate wiv the itune .

can u plz tell me when it is possible the phone get block

note : the phone is g4 16gb for 250 pound " brand new" UK is this logic

  • Good video thanks - I agree with onMENogin that it is vital to shrink and rexpand the 'Devices' tab within iTunes. Even though it appears to recognise the 3GS, you need to do this to get it to connect to the iTunes Store and carry out the unlock process.

I had been very puzzled why as to receiving the SMS from O2 had not unlocked the phone on its own - now I know that it's actually necessary to insert a SIM from another network and run iTunes - thanks for the help folks - gd luck if unlocking!

  • hi mate

    well

i've filled the form, but haven't yet received the text, and it worries me that i wouldn't it would be unfair, i've had iphones since they were released and even now i still got 2 years of contract so they really should send me that bloody test.

    thanks for your help

  • i wanna get an iphone 3gs what number do i have to text to unlock my iphone and what do i do when i have texted it? plz reply back thnx

  • @e14kid100 if its locked to o2 you need to fill out their form. The text is what you receive from the to confirm its been unlocked.

  • Comment removed

  • It didn't work for me

when i eject it, the devices tab disappears and then when i plug it again the same message saying the sim card wont work shows up, please guys help me! i really want to sort this!

  • @placebo850 seems like it hasn't been unlocked. Have you received the confirmation text from O2. The only thing I would suggest is restore the phone to factory settings and try again.

  • For anyone who is interested, I filled the webform in on a Wednesday evening, added the £15 to my credit on Thursday afternoon and i was unlocked Saturday afternoon. After you receive the SMS from 02, insert your non 02 sim in the phone and connect to itunes (logged in with original itunes account phone was activated with). Shrink and expand the devices tab in itunes and it will start to unlock.

  • Yes but they want £15 to unlock my iPhone.

I payed £440 direct from Apple and went on o2 pay&go.

They take the money from your credit.

  • i JUST unlocked my phone this way, worked like a charm. however, tip for people. i was sitting there like a n00b waiting for the 'congrats' screen, turns out you have to click the triangle-y button to hide, and then reopen, 'DEVICES' tab. then iphone and itunes finally wake up and start doing their stuff.

  • @bethan02uk

Thanks.... I was waiting for a while too... untill i read you post. Happened withing a few seconds of shrinking and expanding the devices tab.

  • are u using a pay monthly or PAYGo contract with O2? coz payandgo they take off the free internet. wot bout monthly customer? do u still have free unlimited internet access (not wifi).

  • @Cerid01 Do you know if you need to sync it with the same computer/iTunes account it is linked with. I just got the text from O2 saying that it is availably to unlock now. If I restore the phone to factory settings without unlocking it and sell it, can the seller put in a sim from a different net and connect it to their own iTunes to get it unlocked?

    Thanks if you answer!

  • @bcucjhgs as far as i'm aware there is no link between your itunes account and the unlock.

  • If your having problems unlocking here are some steps that worked for me.

    1. First you need to BACKUP your iphone then restore the phone back to factory settings using itunes.

    2. set the phone as a new handset. To speed this up, deselect auto sync music and contacts,

    3. When the phone has finished syncing etc. right click on the iphone in tunes and restore it back to your previous backup.

This worked for me. I no longer need to sync with itunes ti change the sim or when I turn it off

  • hi, i just unlocked my iphone via o2. and have been having problems. i am on vodafone and everytime i switch my iphone off then back on again it wants me to resync with itunes. it just comes up with the usb cable to itunes logo.

also it keeps doing now every hour or so without turning the phone off. it will ask me to connect to itunes? can anyone help me?

  • @Groadrider hi thanks for your comment. When you connect to iTunes make sure you do a full backup and sync that should let you swap sims etc on the go so might solve your problem. Hope that works. Ceri

  • @Cerid01 hi, i just put in the o2 sim again, then connected it to itunes and synced it. then i removed the sim, put my vodafone one in. it asked me to connect to itunes. like it always does and im still having the same problem. also like in your video i find i have to eject the then reconnect to get the iphone to sync up so i can use the phone again.

  • @Groadrider You need to let the bakup and sync happen with your vodafone sim in the phone. Not the o2 one

  • @Cerid01 i have done that as well... no lucky :( i plugged in and hit the back up button. did you have this problem?

  • @Groadrider My phone is set to automatically backup. Unplug the phone put the vodafone sim let it backup and sync. The only other issue I can think of is if your not connected to the Internet. Failing that it's a call to capple I affraid. I had no problems with my unlock.

  • i called the customer service and the guy said they can unlock my iphone 3G. hr told me to go to their website and fill in the form. i got an email confirmation so now im waiting on the text..but they charge 15 pounds to unlock its not free..but thats a small price to pay..especially since UK is not my home country and i am constantly going in and out the country and i want to use local networks when i am in my home country! lol

  • can the iphone be unlocked so a meteor sim card can be used in it ?? THANKS

  • Hi, i filled the form in and all that. And it said it would send a text, how long does that take? Thanks, please reply

  • Hi, em i filled in the o2 unlock form and they said they would send me a text. How long does it take to recieve the message? Thanks, please reply :)

  • UPDATE - Thanks for all your comments. Just thought I'd let you know that I had a warranty replacement and the replacement automatically unlock when I connected it to iTunes. Fantastic joined up thinking form Apple.

  • i brought my phone yesterday, 2day i rang to o2 customer service to get my iphone 3gs to unlock, i have got the code from the internet, but i never got a message from o2 to my phone, what do i need t do, pls help

  • @stevenling08 You wouldn't have an unlock code. Once you get the msg from O2 to say its unlocked you connect to itunes and apple unlock it remotely .

  • @stevenling08 IT took 10 days for me. IT just depends on how busy they are I guess. My sisters only took 5 days.

  • After it was unlocked did you have the internet tethering option?

  • @wrongmark No i'm afraid not. this is a setting that is unlocked by the service provider.. like the service msg you get for mms when you buy a new phone

  • hi when u unlock the iphone do u lose all ur photos, apps, music and contacts???

  • wonder will there be any software upgrade problem after unlock the phone?

  • when u unlock the iphone by o2 do u get the cydia ???

  • @vnuk08 NO! This is officially unlocking. You only get that from Jailbreaking.

  • Do all the functions work with the iphone? as in data transfer, online, safari etc, when the non-02 sim is in?

  • I was waiting 4 days for txt from O2. I use 3GS 3.1.3 was locked to o2. O2 unlocked for me for absolutely FREE. Am on contract from 3 months btw :)

  • @Teerly

heya mate so you were 3 months into yor contract and they unlocked it for you? just that im hoping to buy my mates but thought id have ti wait untill his contract finishes to unlock..hes upgrade to the iphone 4 so selling his iphone3gs

    thankss

  • Does this work???????

  • I've asked them three times and that was over 3months ago, 2 months, and last month. The bastards just won't go away. I hate o2 so mucH!

  • i didnt get the text i just noticed ny £15 was gone so i connected it to itunes it took ages tho

  • my iphone is now unlocked by o2 1 week after I filled in the online form

  • If only AT&T offered this...then my iPhone would be more expensive, and then also it'd be cool cuz I can pop someones T-Mobile SIM in my phone and they'd be like holy crap!

  • @AppleHack23 I can't believe AT&T won't unlock it because them and o2 are meant to be the same :S

  • O2 Ireland are also unlocking iPhones but although if on Pay as You Go, you don't have to pay anything, you have to have topped up by €150. I got an iPhone locked to O2 UK off a friend but I'm in Ireland so I just got them to top-up the phone and I requested an unlock, I hope it works!

  • I asked for my unlock yesterday morning and I believe that they sometimes don't send you a text to say it is unlocked. So try and connect to itunes to see what happens. I am waiting for mine to be unlocked. I hope it is tomorrow. :D

  • just asked for my unlock

  • When I shutdown the unlocked iphone it needs to re-connect to itunes with the new sim everytime - any clues?

  • if i go online and get a free payg o2 sim card online and top it up with £15, and then put it into my iphone and fill in the unlocking form, do you think it will work??????

  • After unlocking the O2 iphone , can i use it with another international sim card ?

  • o2 do it for you for £15

  • I jst got a second hand 3g iphone locked on o2. can I unlock it if I buy an o2 pay as you go sim? I would like to use it on vodafone. ALSO, IF I DO GET IT UNLOCKED CAN I USE INTERNET AND DATA ON IPHONE USING MY VODAFONE SIM CARD.? Thanks

  • go to the o2 website - they can unlock it for £15

  • i would like to know the same, did u get it done because my iPhone is locked to o2 aswell and i would like to use my vodafone contract sim card in it.

  • yes just add the internet bolt for £5 a month. unlimited internet yvodafone

  • I traded in my Iphone 2G plus cash for Iphone 3G a few months back, I also filled in that form and just yesterday I recieved a text saying my iphone is now unlocked, I connected to itunes and it was unlocked. I tried every UK simcard and it works, you dont need to avtivate the sim via itunes. This is great as now I can use other simcards for when im abroad but in the UK im staying firmly put with o2, they are the best network you can get, for me anyway

  • how long did it take for you to get the text ?:-) ... sent the text Today to unlock my 2G , .. Thanks , And Excellent Video !

  • Hi Emmab2006... I did it when they first announced they would and it took around 10 days.. my sister recently requested the unlock and the text arrived in 4 days. Hope this helps!

  • if the factory unlocked iphone cost 200more than jailbreak iphone, which would you like to buy??

  • At the end of the day Vodafone Orange O2 and Tesco (o2) Mobile will have the phone its just a case of choosing what network suits you and save on the factory unlock cost and get a PAYG. My contract is almost up I might even stay with O2 their customer service has been top notch so far.

  • i going to buy a iphone but i dun know which should i buy, the factory unlocked one or jailbreak one!

  • I wouldn't touch a jailbroken Iphone.. I've never felt the need to go down that road + there has been the worm on jailbroken phones.. if you can afford it got the official unlock one... you get the awesome apple customer service then too.

  • ok so the factory unlocked is better than jailbreak one! thank you for your help;)

  • fp im waiting on o2 to send me the text to do this but they said it takes 7 working days and i ordered it tuesday. Its free aswell

  • I didn't say you gave false info just letting others know what happens if they do .

  • Good... I'm glad that's sorted ;) don't think they would have leg to stand on anyway as they official published that buying a PAYG phone and using it on your contract is a totally legit way to upgrade!

  • They Re-lock your iPhone if they find the info you have provided them is false/ incorrect.

  • I didn't provide any false info. I rung them up and told them I had a 3G (s) and changed my insurance to the 3Gs They did the form for me. If I'm not unlocking my old 3G so its all relative anyway.

  • I bought my iphone on o2 pay as you go but already had a Simplicity 20 Sim 30 day rolling contract, filled in the forms online input pay monthy and they unlocked my phone for free! :) so you dont even have to be on a iphone contract to get your iphone unlocked for free just on a pay monthy plan! It was straight forward and only took 2 days to get the message and was unlocked after putting a orange sim in and syncing with itunes.

  • does anyone know what the deal is if your already unlocked using ultrsnow??? i was sent a text by o2, but once i connected to itunes nothing happened, i un-installed ultrasnow, but still do not get no message

  • maybe it would be best to factory restore.... I've never dabbled with jail breaking so I wouldn't know

  • Thanks for the video, helped me out when i thought it had crashed when unlocking my 3 month old PAYG 3GS (yes 3 month haha) - submitted a request and they unlocked it!!

  • Glad I could help! :)
