What a let down, I placed an order for one of these, I was told that it would take two months to deliver. I emailed AI a week before delivery was due and was told that they had suspended production until summer when they would also announce their "craziest innovation". They never notified me of this change of plan.
To anyone thinking of buying one of these, forget it, wait a few months something else is sure to be released.
Well done Gregoire, you know how to p*ss of your prospective customers!
@dougreed745 Fuck off. He was working on the newer model of the Touchbook. Would you be any happier if you got an old model the second you bought it? No. Just order the newer model.
Hello there. I am interested in buying one of these for use in my university. I currently have a ton of notepads and i was wondering if i could replace them with one touchbook. So is it possible to write and draw directly using a stylus (handwriting)? Also sometimes i have to take notes very fast so is the response time adequate? Could you post a video demonstration? would you recomend one for notetaking?
Yes, you can easily draw on it and it includes a stylus. I haven't tried any handwriting recognition software on it yet. You can get more info from the AI forums, there are a lot of other people playing with the handwriting aspect of it.
What do you want to do with it? I'm having a lot of fun with it, but I'm a hacker and I like alternative programming environments.
It's pretty snappy for general stuff. For video it's better with DSP assistance, but fortunately that works pretty well already. To be honest I haven't figured out what my main use for it will be yet. So far I've been tweaking code, using the web browser, and testing out video playback. I really like the battery runtime though, 8+ hours is great.
hey there, can you tell me about x11 compatibility and stuff? First off, I know that it supports ubuntu, but do you think that, for example, ettercap using the GTK interface would work OK? Second, how is ubuntu or android installed? Do they come with the SD card, or do you have to download a custom ISO to use them?
I dunno anything about ettercap. The usual X stuff works fine. The current OS image installs a multiboot, you can select Android from the boot menu. It's all part of the same image, no other downloads required.
great booting time... i'm very interested in this device.. please make some new videos and share us your opinions so potential buyers like me can have a closer look at this thing... :)

@highlandsun well, their removing the stylus due to the next gen touchbook having a capacitive screen.

So happy to have received my TBook! I plan on using it, among other things, to read comic books (.cbr, .cbz).

wait.... so ubuntu, android and stuff are pre-installed on the SD card?
ossumguywill 1 year ago
@ossumguywill Yep. You can also switch between them seamlessly in real-time, no reboots, etc. and barely a performance drop. Really cool.
