Ahh, good distinction with the "people's globalization" as opposed to the elite's globalization which is the predominant type most people have in mind. See, I've never even thought much about localization, but it may be b/c I am city folk and already have an escape plan to get to my relatives farm way out in the rural expanses. However, I shouldn't depend on that and my community needs to network itself regardless of whether I am there or not, especially b/c it is a lot of young families w/ kids
I think that currently this dichotomy between globalization and localization is true. And I certainly see the necessity of some kind of localization right now to prevent ecocide. But I'm not so willing to give up on the idea of people's globalization. I think I'm more interested in the possibilities that a radical shift in society may present. Anthropologist David Graeber, whom I referred to in my video, is also interested in the possibilities of human society (hence his book "Possibilities")
I didn't mean to totally discount the idea of a peoples globalization. I would like to see this too. I just don't know if there will be enough energy to sustain that level of complexity. Thanks for the references!
You are making a lot of sense here. We most def have to start utilizing the time that we have before the crash to educate ourselves, and prepare for the next step. And hopefully to bring about that next step as quickly and smoothly as is possible. Where the hell are you, by the way? Is that the back of the coffee shop?
What aisle are the chainsaws in?
Is that a Home Depot you work in?
What do you think of the old saying "if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself."
