Like and watch your videos a lot. I was wondering though that at around 4.50 your vid you say that you don't get much brightness from the lights (bedside table lamps) because you are shooting at f5. Is it not true that flash is affected by aperture and contant light is affected by shutter speed?
@4unate close, but aperture affects flash and continuous light. Look at what happens when u change your aperture but keep everything else the same.... it changes the exposure.
Great info. But for us newbies it's pretty complicated. So you, while in the room are doing all these gymnastics for each shot? It must take you an hour to shoot a house.
Love the technique, but what do you do if you have a very large room (eg. open living with dining, kitchen and living all in one area) or high or dark colour ceiling?
@heuykiller i am shooting hand held and that will slow things down and if you check the blog you will see shots before and after. also with super wide angle lenses everything is in hyper focus even at f2.8
@Dombowerphoto Ok, thanks. I didnt really think of that. I will probably use my 18-105 om my DX body because thats the widest lens I have. Which is not at all the ultimate lens for property/interior photography. I guess that I have to think a bit different. For example at least f8 and let the flash work a bit more and let in more ambient light.
I will probably use a tripod as well for slower shutter speeds.
Excellent Tutorial, Nice trick on the f Settings between window and chair area going with a middle value. and then the EV setting at last.. Please provide us with
Lens used, ISO, Focal length to further out knowledge on how it was constructed. thanks again.
Dom, that was a very good video! I'm glad you explained not only what you did to get a better shot, but why you did it. I appreciate your help and keep up the good work. Oh and please wear a shirt. I feel a little wierd watching this video while not wearing a shirt myself. :|

So what changes in the process if the difference between the outside and the darkest area inside is far greater than that in the video?
AshChynoweth 3 weeks ago
@AshChynoweth up your flash power and smaller aperture.

Good video, but we don't really need to see you and if we do, then it's a little strange you are shirtless.

Excellent, shows why the photogapher needs to understand and control light to create the image s/he requires.

check the blog and my other video, had that exact thing.

CTO filter on the flash?
Why not set the aperture to ~8-11 so as much is sharp as possible? And let the flash and the shutter do the rest?

Hi Dom,
Great videos, just wondering what flash gun you use when shooting properties like this one.
Thanks

Great video. I hope that will be more like this.
Not be bad if you put in tutorials a scheme with camera and flash settings and maybe a light position.

@burstimage what is a scheme? all the details and settings are on the blog

Dom - excellent tutorial. Can I ask why you chose this approach as opposed to using HDR? Cheers!

@jonathoncarter ah very very good question! soo good i might make a video answering that one.

Excellent video, Dom. Proves that even what seems to be small adjustments makes a huge difference to the final image. Love it!

Awesome tip Dom! I guess I really need to invest in a flash, probably the SB-600 will do the job just fine.

Did you use a full frame camera?
Also, you can straiten the lines in LR.
Olphus 1 year ago
@Olphus he used a d300 (DX)
then you can straighten lines in LR using lens correction, i believe
