@mtippen This song is on As Long As I'm Singin': The Bobby Darin Collection, the 4 CD box set. It is worth every penny. This box set has gotten 5 stars from several critics, including Rolling Stone Album guide.
@mtippen You can find this, and some other really lovely songs, on "The Very Best of Bobby Darin 1966-1969". Just google the title and you'll find several links.
OMG ..this is a HIT....a no brainer HIT...Bobby D truly amazing...GENIUS..MUSICAL TALENT!!...soulful, intelligent, intellectual, a thinker...left too soon...a great American legent...we had so many in those days...Thank you for posting.
Bobby Darin received the GRAMMY LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD TONIGHT! His son Dodd Darin gave a beautiful speech on his behalf in yesterday's ceremony. It's on You Tube under " Bobby Darin Lifetime Award". Bobby was a versatile, multitalented genius!
Darn... I don't watch simply because it has evolved to just too weird and sometimes offensive for me, but I wish I had seen Bobby receiving this award. Who accepted it for him and maybe it's here on YT. thanks glad I saw your post.
This great, great, great, great song ended up as the B-side of the "If I Were A Carpenter" single in 1966. As impeccable as the A-side is, "Rainin'" should have been a hit in its own right. It's truly the best record he ever did in terms of mood, arrangement and overall intensity. And that's saying a lot. That seventh in the resolve at the end is beyond gorgeous. A monster classic! The man born Walden Robert Cassotto is greatly missed.
I too LOVE this, when I saw it on A&E Bio few yrs ago I was astonished. cld you explain what you mean by the seventh in the resolve at the end, maybe I can understand and appreciate gem even more, if that's possible. Do you happen to know what if any CD it's on? thanks
Oh yeah, it's a great, great record. I'd rank it right up there with Milord as the best record he did in that genre. Aside from being a single B-side, it was also on his The Shadow Of Your Smile LP & on a CD called As Long As I'm Singin'. The seventh in Rainin' comes in the muted horns right near the end, where the horns go up a half step. It sounds odd or dissonant by itself, but it really, really adds to the mood. Bobby Darin was a genius at creating that kind of drama. Thanks for asking!
vintage bobby in the booth......imagine what he could produce given today's technology, and his intellect?......check out these grizzled old studio musicians, making scale,.......what a cool peek into bobby ,and those days in the studio.....
Does anyone notice that this song sounds like " Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" by Burt Bacharach from 1969, three years LATER????? Maybe Burt got the idea from Bobby??
unlike the other greats of his time like elvis and sinatra, bobby kept on growing vocally. although his studio work doesn't reflect this. his live performances are unequaled. just listen to "sweet caroline", "work song", "long line rider", "bridge over troubled water" and so many more. what a great singer
I agree Darin grows vocally. No doubt. But check out Elvis in the couple years before he died when he really brought it. He was growing. But it was tougher for him. He started off so great all ready.
This is my favorite song by Bobby Darin. He was a monumental talent and left us too soon. I have tried to download this on Itunes but they dont have it. I dont think anyone does. Years ago , I found it on Napster.
This is some great rare footage of a recording session. I've going to post the song on my channel right now if anyone wants to hear the whole recording.
You can get this video on the bonus DVD included in the CD "Aces Back to Back". The footage is rough, but priceless: there documentary footage of all the stars welcoming Bobby back to the Cocoanut Grove in 1966, plus Bobby , Sandy , & Dodd taking a train across the USA. Classic!
part of the charm of this footage is that of the grizzled studio musicians, the drummer, sax, trumpet.....making scale wages, yet playing in the studio for the greatest live entertainer of all time, Bobby Darin
Bobby is another one that left us too soon. He was a great singer and could deliver ant style and did a excellent style. Love his music. I never get tired of listening to it. Rainnin is one of my favorites
DesmondSun4U sent us here...sure do miss this guy...He left us too soon...I remember him, for not only his music, but for something he said---"They hear, what they see." I never forgot it. 5 stars...thanks for the share
Thanks for posting this rare musical gem. Nice pleasure to watch it whenever you wish in youtube. I subscribe what our friend Kenwood3865 said, two months ago, about Bobby Darin, this shows his human side. It was a musical team. Regards from Luis, a meloman, from Lima PERU.
it's so important to not only hear and see Bobby here, but even more important to check out the studio musicians....trumpet, sax, drummer, etc, who were paid minor scale wages in the 60's.....Bobby was known for being a tough perfectionist in the studio, in his heyday, but for also be fiercely loyal and generous with his musicians.....he considered himself one of them, and liked to hang out with them!

Hi bon1042... this song is also on the "Bobby Darin: Aces Back to Back!" CD that was released in 2004. I'd highly recommend that CD, it comes with a bonus DVD as well.
I have loved Bobby Darin since I was 13 years old and he still has a place in my heart, Rainin is one of my favorite BD songs.... but then whatever one I happen to be listening to at the time seems to be my favorite thanks for posting....
Very good video. I have only seen parts of it in on all of the DVD's and CD's of his I have. You can still find much of his music on cd's by doing inter-library loans throughout the USA. Unfortunately this great musician (as I sit here listening to "A Simple Song of Freedom") left us all way too soon.
I really love all of Bobby songs, but 'Rainin'and 'I will wait for you' are my favorites. This song is so sexy and I love to close my eyes and pretend it is raining and Bobby is singing to me. I know it is corny, but I love Bobby.
