  • What a voice. Wow.

  • Elizabeth, this is a gorgeous song and your voice is powerful, spiritual, perfect. Have heard this several times but only now figured out how to log in and leave you a comment. Thanks for this.

    geoff

  • There are singers who sell millions of albums and perform in full stadiums every night who may pray that they could one day be half as great as Elizabeth Laprelle.

  • Somebody post Texas Gladden's version. The best one ever.

  • Nice Short Clip

  • You are giving us the gift of the old music. God bless.

  • Come all ye fair and tender maidens

  • As good as it gets. I'd marry her tomorrow if she went for older (and very ugly) men.

  • Very very good

  • Joanna Newsom does a version of this as well.

  • Awesome that she just stands there and sings and the audience is completely silent - nobody so much as coughs. Beautiful.

  • Absolutely beautiful! You can really hear the celtic roots of appalacian folk in her singing.

  • Gorgeous. Her voice is amazing, and totally hypnotic. I love it!

  • Another beaut Elizabeth!

  • Just saw Julie Fowlis video. This fits so well with that one. Beautiful music comes from not just the sound but from the heart and home. My taste in music is spoiled by songs like this. What can compare?

  • what video are you referring to?

  • Since I watch all Julie Fowlis' videos, I don't remember exactly which one. It's her renditions of traditional Gaelic songs that I enjoy. Like Elizabeth, it is her home language. Probably my favorite is the Transatlantic Sessions 3 with Donal Lunny and Bruce Molsky. Again, like Julie, Elizabeth isn't just making music but keeping a tradition alive that comes from their lives. It's hard to listen to anything else. Everything else is ok, just doesn't seem as deep.

  • Actually, stillIrish, Elizabeth's parents are transplanted Yankees, though she grew up in SW VA, which they found and loved. However, she was exposed to traditional music all her life. She has one of the most incredible voices I've heard. The difference between her first album, "Rain & Snow" and "Lizard in the Spring" is interesting. You can hear how her voice matured over the intervening five years.

  • I'm a late joiner to youtube, so this reply is a long time coming - Actually, only I, Elizabeth's Mom, am a transplanted yankee. Her Dad was born here in Southwest Virginia, her grandmother's family was from Knoxville TN.

  • @sandynewlapsing Sorry for the misinformation, Sandy. I had misunderstood. That doesn't distract, though, from her amazing voice. And yours isn't bad either! What is Elizabeth doing these days? Is she touring at all? I'd love to hear her live again soon.
