  • That lamb is sooooo cute :D

  • oh my god that lamb is so AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!! like really i could go on forever saying that!

  • is the scene "if mama was married" on here from the movie?

  • this song is really not all that simple and sweet, though it may appear that way. it's almost disturbing cause her most important day gets pushed aside for her mother and their new success with the Orpheum circuit. Also that last line "I wonder how old I am" is so beautifully poignant because of Rose's insane idea of keeping them naive to the fact they are growing older so they can be convincing onstage. Brilliant writing on both Sondheim and Styne's part.

  • @lavalamp625 The sad part is that in real life, Rose lied to her daughters about their ages, they were never sure as children how old they were.

  • How could people eat those cute animals??????

  • @Tecfob

usually with mint jelly. mmmmmmmmm.. delicious!!

There are all sorts of recipes online if you look :)

  • @skullyj2002 That is so mean!! but LOL

  • everytime I watch this scene all I can look at is that adorable little lamb, what a sweet face!!! Natalie is wonderful but the lamb steals this scene from her!! thanks so much for posting this!!

  • lol. I always thought the cat was literally the color blue. but anyway. I love this show so much that I've had the script for four years. I think I got it for my birthday or something. hey what a coinsidence!

  • Jule styne and I believe Sondheim insisted that this song remain in "Gypsy". I believe the producers wanted to cut it but Jule would have none of it. He was so right because this song is spot on in furthering the plot and showing the vunerability of June and louise.

  • little lamb little lamb my birthday is here at last

  • A sweet song, but HELL to play on the violin. HELL I TELL YOU!

  • A very cheesy song but a cute voice from a nice looking woman

  • It's like listening to someone rake her nails across a blackboard.

  • @unclealand I could not agree less

  • But the character Louise,I thought, isn't suppose to be a good singer

  • so simple and so beautiful

  • this is beautiful

  • Oh my gosh, is that a real lamb??

  • She really did have a good singing voice, but it just wasn't strong enough to sing Maria. I guess they just thought that she couldn't hit the notes right. But she still had a beautiful voice. She was a wonderful actress.

  • she and audrey hepburn had similar singing situations. they both could sing, they just couldnt do an exceptionally amazing job- which is needed to do a major motion picture. natalie has so much talent. she is my favorite actress and always will be.

  • Yeah, Audrey Hepburn was dubbed in My Fair Lady as well. I've never heard Audrey's actual singing voice, but I know that Natalie could sing well, just not well enought to sing Stephen Sondheim.

  • Audrey Hepburn sang all her songs in Funny Face and she sang 'Moon River' in Breakfast At Tiffany's. Shes actually pretty good. Stephen Sondheim wrote these lyrcis, didint he? as well as West Side Story.

  • I've never seen Breakfast at Tiffany's or Funny Face, but I'm sure that Audrey Hepburn could sing well. Studios back in that day were very peculiar about how their actors could sing. Stephen Sondheim wrote all the songs for West Side Story, but I don't know about Gypsy.

  • Yeah, he was the lyricist, not the composer.

  • mhm. he was AMAZING! my mom and i were talking about it (we're both theatre geeks) and who thinks of lyrics 'keep away from her, send for chino. this is not the maria we know'? ONLY a genius!

  • Oh my god... it's hard for me to focus on anything other than how CUTE that lamb is!!

  • @franimalistic

    guess you're not male then.

  • Natalie Wood was a goddess. It hurts that she is gone.

  • natalie wood is amazing <3 its a shame she died so young.

  • Did Marni Nixon dub her in this movie? I wasn't sure if it was her or someone else. :)

  • Natalie sang for herself in Gypsy.

  • Ah. She was dubbed by Marni in West Side Story. I remember now. :) Thanks!

  • Natalie didn't sing in WSS, her voice was dubbed

  • that lamb is adorble!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i have the biography Natasha - page 282 discusses this scene in detail, how perfect her singing is for the scene. Natalie was my favorite. I remember getting the news of her death from a best friend - we were devastated. Still miss her. Love you, Natasha - you were like a little lamb.

  • I find Natalie's voice quite delightful in this. To me her less-than-perfect pitch works very well for this song. The wavering in her voice just adds to the sweetness and vulnerability of the moment. She sounds as if she is right on the verge of tears and you can't help but to want to cradle her in your arms like the little lamb she's holding and tell her that everything is going to be o.k. A stronger vocalist may not have been able to convey that "little girl lost" vulnerability quite as well.

  • Is there a wayI can get you ro re-post Natalie singing "Let Me Entertain You" from Gypsy...for some reason, it got removed.

  • I never posted that one on my channel before. I may add it sometime when I'm not busy though.

  • very cute!

  • miss natalie wood was a great and wonderful actress and woman ,she was perfect and will miss you so much ,she die young but , always will be remember how one the most lovely actress in hollywood rip natalie

  • Natalie Wood sings beautifully! I wish they hadn't dubbed in West Side Story.

  • two things, one what happens to the lamb in the rest of the story? and two: sondheim is such a genius for writing this because the first time she says "i wonder how old i am" it's hilarious but when she repeats it it's like omg the so sad. She is forced to pretend she's ten so she doesn't knwo her own age. Curse you Mamma Rose!

  • I agree, I have always thought that is such a sad line.

  • Could you post 'If mama was married' please? All I can find is the crappy 1993 version. Thanks.

  • I love this song. It's so beautiful and at the same time, so sad.

  • So Cute! :-)

  • is this from another version of the movie "Gypsy"?

  • It's from the 1962 version with Rosalind Russell, Natalie Wood, and Karl Malden.

  • She was dubbed by Marnie Nixon in West Side Story, even though she originally sang all of the songs herself. Did she sing this?

  • Yes, this is actually her singing.

  • Natalie Wood sang it.

  • there's some controversy as to whether or not this really IS her singing, but she was certainly dubbed in West Side Story because she couldn't sing with the accent

  • It's definitely her. If Marni Nixon had dubbed her, it would've sounded better.

  • haha, good one. i agree

  • i love this song =]

  • Thank you for posting this....it's beautiful.
