  • and now here comes the hack a jordan (deandre)

  • SO MAKE THE FREE THROWS SIMPLE AS THAT

  • Popivich is biggest bitch in the Nba He cries about everything and if a team did what he did to Shaq he would have lost his mind

  • Hack a byombo

  • What is the name of the song ?

  • Comment removed

  • i thought it was hack-a-shaq not hug-a-shaq

  • Hack-a-shaq SHOULD be legal. If Shaq could shoot 50%, nobody would care. How can you compete when there is nobody else to ever live who is as big and good as shaq? You find a weakness, and exploit it. That is free-throw. You have to be able to compete with the most dominant force in sports history!

  • It's very simple: learn to sink the free throws, they'll stop to do the hack-a-shaq. It's bad for the game? Fuck that, I find insulting that Shaq had won millions of dollars and couldn't make a decent amount of free throws.

  • Fun

  • So what they are having in right?m

  • lucky for the spurs that shaq is a patient and smart man, at least enough to not go on a rampage as everyone probably would want to...this is annoying tactic...

  • I would rather say that it is a disgrace to the game that some centers don't practice free throw shooting,so they shoot like 56%.To say that this is a disgrace to the game, then the same thing is when teams call a timeout to inbound from the half-court.

  • Using it while your winning is bullshit.

  • Steven A Smith is a fucking joke

  • steven a smith is the only guy on espn with a brain.

  • if they do it enough, im sure guys will start getting tossed with 6.

  • Lol, @ 3:04 did Shaq really just try to juke the guy haha.

  • Oberto: HEY REF IM FOULING HIM LOOK

  • shaq should just kill all the spurs

  • Spurs Coaching was genius to do this lmao!! I hate the spurs but pop had a good tactic

  • @illicitjmoskid44 shut up jay

  • @illicitjmoskid44 Give credit to Don Nelson for inventing that tactic and Pop for perfecting it.

  • if i was shaq i wudda knocked the fuck outta someone

  • Did they change the rule??

  • Now that Shaquille is out you can use it on DeAndre Jordan. Haha Mark Jackson did the same thing against the Clippers

  • An intentional foul on a player who hasn't the ball sould be called an unsportsmanlike foul.

  • I actually like this strategy. It's beautiful because it's a demonstration of wisdom. People hate this is because they cannot come up with this smart play :) thumbs up if you agree

  • @KanyeLiang I hate it because this destroys the game. I don't watch basketball to see free throws.

  • @MrCiguma if he hit free thorws, they wouldnt foul him so what really runing the game is his lack of skill....a skill every damn person who every shot a damn ball has.

  • @willieg54 This is not about Shaq missing free throws. The lack of skill, it isn't like Shaq is one of the top 10 centers of all time... I still think that this shouldn't be allowed, even though it's partly Shaq's fault. I think it should be a T. I just hope they don't start doing this on e.g. Howard.

  • @MrCiguma look up hack a howard. it was used last night.............

  • @KanyeLiang I'll give you a finger. But it won't be a thumb.

  • @KanyeLiang i see u have a hell lot of supporters

  • did they change the rule

  • Just some butthurt Suns fan, moe along...

There you go, something to make you feel better: watch?v=CmDiq9M6Sx8

  • if i was shaq id just hug them back, thus crushing them

  • lol golden state did it to deandre today...

  • Comment removed

  • i bet if the lakers used this no one would care.... every's anal against the spurs lol

  • Okay, I'm confused. Can anyone answer me? I was wondering why all teams don't do this. Teams foul other teams in the last 25 seconds of the game if they're losing, but they always foul the ball handler. The ball handler then goes to the line. Why don't they foul someone without the ball like a bad FT% center for example? For example: It is 95-91, 20 secs on the clock. Winning team's ball handler gets fouled at put to the line (usually makes both). Why don't they foul the center without the ball?

  • @iN31L under two minutes left the ball is giving to whomever the team wants to shoot it if they are not the ball handler.

That ruling may have changed. I haven't been keeping track of the league for a few years and these rule changes are mostly designed to give the offensive player an advantage. (This is done, if I'm correct, to pad the points to increase tv ratings, etc.)

I'm sure someone will correct me. I'm a Blazer fan of the 90s when Hack-a-shaq was used in the NBA.

  • @junk11111111 I mean no offence, but I couldn't understand your first sentence. The grammar was way off. Like I said, no offence, do you mind re-wording for me?

  • @iN31L Sorry about that, wasn't sure if it would make sense, no edit feature to correct it.

When an offensive player that is away from the ball is fouled, while two minutes is left during regulation play, that offensive team has the right to select any of their players (already on the court) to shoot/convert the free throws.

During the NBA Finals 2000, Sam Perkins of the Pacers fouled Shaq under two minutes. Not the best timing^^. It boosted the Laker's lead without Shaq at the free throw.

  • @junk11111111 If that is true, why does the ball always go to the person on the court with the best FT% (or whoever the team may want to put to the line)?

I always see this: Like I said in my first comment, when there's 25 seconds left in the game, and the winning team is put to the line because they need to be fouled, why is the ball always given to the person they want at the line? I may be wrong, but I swear that always happens.

  • @iN31L Other than Hack-a-Shaq, it can also be due to an accumulation of "team fouls" by the defensive team that is reached in a quarter that fouling a player without the ball allows the offensive team to select a player they want to shoot at the foul line. Some1 may correct me on that but "team foul" is key.

Wikipedia has a free throw section and a nice hierarchy diagram that may help.

    Google: "wikipedia free throw"

    Also: "nba rules"

A forum would be ideal to answer this question fully. :)

  • So if a player can't shoot 3s, and you crowd the paint to force him to shoot 3s, it's totally legit.

But if a player can't shoot free throws, and you force him to shoot "FREE" throws (FREE POINTS), it's somehow not legit?

I'm lost. Shaq had that one weakness, he lacked the skill to shoot the ball. He strength was his post game, teams are suppose to sit there and play Shaq's game all night and lose without any ability to stop it? Spurs should have just bent over and gave them the ring then.

  • we wouldn't even have this problem if shaq could shoot free throws :D

  • They just wanted to hack big ol' Shaq.

  • this is a funny but smart tactics. i mean if you want to destroy your enemy you should know there weaknesses..

  • Thats just a cheap way to win. proves that the teams cant accept defeat.. Waste of time to be honest.. They should just play the game fair and square.

  • @stephen21003 I would liken it to grabbing a player by the jersey to tackle in football.

  • @stephen21003 This is fair and square. It's not my fault that he is shit at free throws.

  • @happynightz No one said it is your fault....

  • if he made free throws then this wouldnt have happened. great player. but lacked in certain parts of his game.

  • Come on I knew a player shot 50% from the line and need disrupt the game tempo would hack the player for psychological advantage. It gives the player rest when a players shoots like crap from the free throw line.

  • lol..really? there's a video over this? u wna see a brawl out basketball stick to NCAA or the DLeague.

They've been teaching FREE THROWS the moment you decided to play basketball when you were a kid. It's called Free Throw because it's expected that those are easy baskets.

By all means this is LEGAL. If SHAQ knew how to shoot FT then this wouldn't be a problem.

  • ppl who dislike this tactic should relax and think again...they play basketball as a whole...they do not play lay-ups or jump shots...its a whole game...if u exploit a weakness in the opponents team then u are absolutely correct...if u know u have a weakness and u dont correct it...then blame urself for it...imagine this...if shaq had hit all his free throws...then this tactic would have rebounded on the opponent..they would lose fouls and lose points...

  • Shaq should just smack a bitch

  • keep on hating the spurs!! haha!!! GO SPURS GO!!

  • @jooljetkmae But the only thing is... Hack-a-Shaq is not really basketball, it's a joke. It's no fundamentals or skill at all.

  • I used to hate this.

  • @royal44100 its a strategy, period..

  • To be totally honest with you, I was honestly expecting Shaq to knock someone out. I bet if he threatened one of those guys that he'd break their nose if they did that to him, they'd stop. Then again, I'm sure a team would sacrifice one of their useless players to get Shaq suspended if he actually did exact revenge on them. I have to give him props for maintaining his composure, I think most people would lose it when they are trying to play, and getting fouled repeatedly.

  • it woulda been funny if he start shootin like dirk

  • if its way to win...then i gonna use that..

  • @SMALL3ification Give credit to Don Nelson for that so-called "way to win".

  • I think this is beautiful. 1000+ offensive fouls weren't called on Shaq, nobody gives a fuck, and then the announcer dares to say it's unfair to gain advantage by the hack-a-shaq tactic.

  • @Slamwoo93 It's called using your body in the paint.

  • @royal44100 So basically you can go hit people around and taunt them, but it's dumb when someone counters your big ass and makes you use your skill.

  • @Slamwoo93 What? Doesn't really make sense at all....

Shaq has fundamentals in the post. Stupid fouls because a team is scared to (or just can't) guard him is not skill nor is it fundamentals. It is true that Shaq sucked at free throws and should have worked on it more, but fouling him constantly is not a good or new strategy. It was used on Dennis Rodman beforehand. It doesn't really work.

  • 19 f*cking years, Shaq! You had 19 years to improve your free-throws! Don't tell me that the ball is too small. Yao Ming has larger hands.

  • would you like some cheese to go with that whine?

  • It your bitching about this hack-a-shaq shit. Quit bitching. SPORTS is a mans world, you PLAY and need STRATEGICAL ways to WIN the game. People these days bitch about any little thing. This dude that made this video said from a fans point of view it pissed him off cuz it hinders the excitement. BITCH shut the fuck up. EVERYONE WHO PLAYS SPORTS... DO YALL PLAY THE SPORT TO BRING EXCITMENT TO OTHER HUMAN BEINGS LIVES? I hope not. A man plays a sport cuz he enjoys and loves the game.

  • I hate this fuckin song, people should stop stealing it

  • @Geschlechtsvolzieher funny because most people who use this song get payed by youtube to play it

  • soccer got this one right by by making repeated fouls on a single player a yellow card offense.

  • @jooljetkmae fuck you shaq is still one of the greatest centers of all time and i dont care if he fat i wanna see u surpass this nigga greatness bitch respect legends.

  • @KDurantula if that nigga was 5'5, that nigga would suck.

  • @TheSpursallday if that nigga was 5'5 he would probably played differently

  • @KDurantula of course, but he doesnt have the fundamentals that TIm Duncan has. so he would be that good.

  • @TheSpursallday what shaq is better than duncan wat are u talking about hes make more points at beter field goal% and there rebound are pretty similar and there assist and block too get real

  • @KDurantula dude he just over powers people, thats why he has good field goals%

  • Simple: Change the rules so that if there's an intentional foul off ball, let anyone from your team shoot it. Problem Solved.

  • definition of hack-a-shaq iswrong babe, its more like : basketball strategy based on %.

  • Why is this song used for every controversial video?

  • this is so unsportsmanlike, ridiculous

  • Go Spurs!

  • well if shaq learned to throw free throws there wouldn't be a hack a shaq. so he kind of put it on himself.

  • id love to see shaq fouling one of them at the end of the game, but really foul them, so they won´t shoot a free throw no more

  • Wow, that's just absurd. I used to think this game sucked even before learning about this absurd practice that's allowed to go on by the league!

  • damn that was disrespectful to Shaq, but i mean hey he is in the NBA so he shoulda worked on his freethrows

  • Hit your free throws...case closed

  • its a smart strategy. live with it. it was legal. its shaq's fault he has that weakness in his game. its the suns fault for making such a retarded trade that sent their team into a spiral. shaq didn't fit them in any way. shaq disrupted their rhythm no matter what, with or without the freethrows cuz he was slow then.

  • a coach's job is to win games, isn't it? the industry is geared toward entertainment, but objectively, the franchise looks for a coach to be a winner, not a showman. Popovich's methods were surely controversial, but they got the Spurs to the conference finals this year. the ends justified the means; they were winners, even if it didn't lead to a finals victory. LA and Boston were destined to collide, anyway.

  • Shaq's free throw shooting ability is a disgrace for game .

  • this is why i hate the spurs. fuckin piece of shitt

  • what if Shaq were to be out of bounds...

or did they finally change that rule?

  • @23Trixx23 he d still count as a player on the court. so no

  • @HitAltF4Please ohhh well i tried to give an option lol

  • @23Trixx23 i think they really should implant that rule with 1 FT + inbound on the sideline / halfcourt.

  • FUCK YOU POPOVICH !

  • @1010jagabo POPOVICH IS THE BEST COACH IN THE NBA!! KEEP ON HATING 1010jagabo!! hahaha

  • I see one very effective counter to the hack-a-shaq, improve your frikkin free throws. Can't be that hard since you're an NBA player and all....

  • Steve Kerr said it right, you should never be able to foul someone OFF the ball like that. See, if Shaq was posting up, then I don't mind the Spurs fouling him.

  • i was hoping evry. sec. of this video to see him bust some pussys ass

  • The darkest memory in Shaq's wonderful career...S.A Spurs is just a champion team that never deserve the title.. Popovich abused the rules to win games and series, afraid of playing the game with real strategy. I wonder if every players in the team actually agreed to this playing style. Where were their ethic and conscience? Stupid popovich. Sure he can never get another title already, old team, weak team, loser team, thanks to this loser coach.. where amazing happens

  • @KeanMingNeoh If you're going to type in English do it correctly. Most of the things you said made little to no sense. If they didn't "deserve the title" why do they have 4? I hate when idiot fucks like you type nonsense.

  • @THEXAV21 i was just expressing my thoughts, which is one of the purpose of the existence of this platform, if my thoughts do not match with yours, just dont read that, is not meant for you to read, is just for me to express only.

Anyway, little to no sense to you, but makes perfect sense for me, and the world is not revolving around you or me only. How wonderful that something which makes no sense caught the attention of the one who regard it as nonsense

  • All Shaq really has to do is make the free throws! This would really make the opponent think three times on whether they want to hack Shaq!

  • Wouldn't happen if shaq could make a shot....he's only earned about 50 million dollars to play ball.

  • @jdoggolicious no it isnt u dumbshit. U dont even know what the lockout is pr why it happend so stfu

  • The creator of hack a shaq? Don Nelson. The Mavs vs Lakers.

  • This is why we're in a NBA lockout

coz of teams like the Spurs who fck up the game!!!

  • 3:03 LMAO shaq trynna run away ahah

  • Not too sure of what hack a shaq is..

whenever this takes place, does shaq get the foul called on him?

  • @Murlescent Basically the other team purposely fouls Shaq ( A notoriously bad FT shooter) in order to send him to the line to prevent the Suns from being able to run their offense. It's a very cheap strategy, but really everybody in the NBA should be able to make their free throws. If they were able to, it would eliminate this cheap ass strategy.

  • how many FT's did he get? and important: How many did he make?

  • lol i think ben wallace had the worst and in my opinion bruce bowen is just as bad =-)

  • Wow this is the pussiest shit I've ever seen in the NBA

  • Someone please explain to me in detail what a Hack-a-Shack is please

  • @IWHBYF Usually done in late game situations. You intentionally foul the worst free throw shooter on the other team (Shaq) and that person has to shoot 2 free throws and you get the ball. Since they are a bad free throw shooter, they'll miss both shots causing them to virtually have a wasted possession. Hack-a-Shaq is no longer used because rules have changed to make it to where if you foul someone who doesn't have the ball, they shoot free throws and get the ball back.

  • @orr4eva13 Thanks man

  • @orr4eva13 no entendi lo ultimo sobre las reglas explicame porfavor si?

  • @IWHBYF People foul Shaq on purpose so that he shoots free throws. They do this intentionally because Shaq's free throw percentage is very low, so the odds are, they will get the ball.

  • alteast shaqs retire now. worst freethrow ever.

  • @zzr400cc I'd take Shaq over Chuck Hayes. o_O

  • @rameer I take perkins over shaq but I take chuck norris over shaq.

  • @zzr400cc fuck you man shaq was one of if not THE greatest center of all time. how dare you "atleast" as if its a good thing. shame on you!!

  • @glanaroth- another fanboi cried...

  • @zzr400cc Ofcoarse thats why he's one of the 50 greatest players of all time. You just think your Mr Rebel cause you have a different opinion. learn to respect the legends.

  • i think this is the best stragey in basketball..use your opponents weakness to your advantage

    very simple yes

    time consuming yes

    funny as hell yes

watching shaq try to not get fouled hilarious

  • @wwfchriswwf

you, my friend are a fool, this is just ridiculous !! it's so weak it makes me sick

  • @vegetroyyy u sir are not are not my friend its won them the series so it works so it may not be the prettiest thing out there but its shaq fault he should have worked on his freethrow

  • This should be intentional, it is right ? 2 ft's + possesion

  • Stephen A. Smith is still an idiot.

  • dirty play

  • Technical foul delay of game

  • If you don't practice on your freethrows, you're going to pay the price. Fair and Square.

  • too bad for the spurs that year, even they foul very often, they still never won the title..

  • this is surely a DISGRACE to the game.. the NBA should remove this..

  • this video totally proves that they can't stop, even an OLDER shaq FAIRLY

  • lame. its a strategy. they played by the rules . come on

  • how come so many nba centers can't shoot free throws...they're gonna get a ton of contact playing in the point which equals ton of free throws.

  • Comment removed

  • @nnaammee1 they CAN shoot free throws but only not consistent :)

  • Really good video! It shows many weaknesses of these "great" players. It also shows how the "great" players actually get their "great" points. LOL!

  • well when you have the opportunity to stop the other teams possesion legally, you guys would have done it too if you were professional bball players. just shut up, the spurs didnt just win 4 championships because of hack a shaq, they won it because of teamwork and tough defense.

  • frankly i think it does slow the game down and its not as fun to watch, but its called strategy. i definitely dont think the nba should change it.

  • @Beicon55 But the team is not losing because it's not better than the other team. And with this we would never know who's the better team was. Some strategies actually make some games more entertaining to see how the player would overcome it. But with this, what's entertaining about Shaq making a free throw? Without it actually happening. We don't watch the games to see if Shaq would make a free throw.

  • the hack a shaq is genius: strategy to stop a behemoth from conquering the game, attack his achilles heel, make him shoot free throws. if Shaq was a 90% free throw shooter, dont you think the hack a shaq would be obsolete?

  • @Beicon55 You reply to a two month old comment bro, so cool.

  • yo i love how shaq knocks that dude down at 9:00

  • @BBallin30 I would do the same thing.

  • i give shaq credit for not destroying the bitches grabing him

  • the spurs had no business beating the suns that year. oh shaq, much like your freethrows, you will be greatly missed

  • good smart european style game ;)

  • Gregg Popovich is a DISGRACE to the game!!

  • @Samuelx123x this is a really stupid comment

  • if i were Shaq, first time someone ran at me i'd just deck they ass and prove a point. i'd take the foul and just deck 'em everytime they tried.

  • GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYS

  • My roommate was a SpurzZZZzzZzZzZz fan.

  • 3 ways to stop hack-a-shaq.

    1. Sub shaq out

    2. play really good defense

    3. make the DAMN FREETHROWS

  • @ChippyBlane haaha seriously. FREEthrows.

  • @ChippyBlane i think make the damn freethrows should be number 1. LOL

  • the thing thats amazing is how calm shaq is, respect to the man but if that was me no doubt id be fucking every one of them spurs cunts up

  • No more hack a shaq this season.

  • Notice they only tried that shit when he was in arizona....In LA hed fuckin murder the spurs

  • this is the same thing as fouling before a team has a chance to hit a three pointer... it's the way the game is played. i don't like it, but you win with whatever you can.

  • Since he hits about 50% on average, they score 1 point for every possession. This is equivalent to shooting 50% from the field, i.e. 2 points every other possession with the exception of 3 point shots. Thus, by fouling shaq, the Spurs guarantee that the Suns will score at least one point. Nothing cheap about that in my opinion.

  • IF i was shaq i would fucking punch them

  • try hacking a ray allen

  • lol how hard is it to learn to shoot free throws?

  • @CRTtoVIP How hard is it to learn how to shoot free-throws? Well, its like a fucking tennis ball for Shaq; Try shooting a tennis ball and see how "easy" it is...

  • @OmarChannel I bet he could figure out a way in the 17 years he was in the league

  • I understand why the Spurs are doing it but i dont understand how their fans are supporting it, they just dont love basketball, and they should have shame on their fuckin pussies team

  • R.I.P Horry's daughter.

  • If this shit happened in hockey, shaq would injure this fucking idiots
