The Clippers no longer wanted Maggette - hence they declined to match what Corey had on the table from the Warriors. Baron chose to leave for 2 reasons. 1) He wanted to get paid long-term one last time but Mullin insulted him with a 2 yr/28 mio. lowball offer. Of course he's not gonna take that when he can get 5/65 from LAC and play in his home town. 2) He was lured to LA by Brand who told LAC he would re-sign and take 'less money', i.e. 5/70, if they got Baron. They got him but Brand backed out of his promise after his agent, Falk, started to twist his head and decided to pry him away from LA no matter what.

David, do a fact check: Maggette ASKED the Clippers to match the Ws offer - he wanted to STAY a Clipper! The C's declined because they have Thornton ready to take over Corey's minutes & production and then signed Ricky Davis for low dough who's capable of duplicating Corey's pts & is a better shooter and defender.

Everybody keeps saying Baron's gone, we lost our leader. I love the dude, but let's not forget that Baron and Jackson were playing the worst ball of everybody on the squad at the end of last season. That's why I'm so glad they got Azubuike back, cause him and Monta were the brightest spots on the team near the end, IMO. Stacks can lead us, and I think Williams, Monta, and Watson will do an okay job at point. Team chemistry is key this year.

He's more of a 6th man type. He's not really the type to get the ball moving and make teammates better; all he does is jump into defenders to draw fouls. Chris Mullin should have went for Josh Smith instead, and Corey should have signed with a contending team like SAS or BOS.

Who knows, I could be wrong about Corey. Most people thought that we had to take on Stephen Jackson to get Harrington, turns out that Jackson ended up being the centerpiece of the deal. Corey could be a surprise too.
