Leona has a lot of control over her voice. Where she has difficulty is keeping up with the tempo of her songs. Look back at some of her X Factor performances and you'll see that she can sing incredibly well live - but a mid-tempo song seems to make her fall apart.

Agreed. Im an American but id say Leona is pretty huge here i mean she's easily one of the best singers in the world. Well, for the record, Mariah Carey was able to remain flawless for the first 6 years of her career (see Mariah Carey Unplugged). Then again, I've always thought Leona was overhyped from day one. She's an amazing vocalist, but sometimes lacks control when trying to surpass her natural range. She's obviously a contralto, but tries to sound like a sorprano. At times it works, but it's like playing a game of russian roulette. It either makes or breaks her performances. This time, it broke it...

Leona is not a contralto. True contralto's are very rare and Leona has a poor lower register. She is more likely a Mezzo-Soprano and I agree that she has been over hyped from the beginning. Had she gone on the show after Alex won, she wouldn't have been as bigged up by Simon Cowell.

Hi rachd31 I think if you check back it is likely Leona had recorded the lottery performance  ( if you re- watch it ,check out bangles for pushing button and performance ) i think Leona is still recovering from illness and seemed to limit her vocals to some extent ( not suprising if she has a bad throat !) but professionaly done and delivered a truly credit worthy performance! a true professional as the saying goes The show must go on !
