I think what most here are missing is the shape of the drop being like a horse shoe, him swimming here could have been fatal. I don't think he held on to be a badass I think he held on to stay alive.
@pitchandmiss Have you seen the drop in person? From the vid it looks like swimming out of it would be possible but I havnt seen it so its hard to tell
@aria230 Nice exclusive clip of the beat down....I have run this river a bunch. It's a pretty terminal hole at that level. You would most likely get body recirced in there for awhile.... Everytime I see this vid, I'm still very impressed by the tenacity. Props!

I was thinking fair play to him for holding on for so long.......and then the camera pulled back to revel that big drop. and then I was like, ahhhhhhhh thats why he isn't swimming. That hole would have eaten most paddlers.

I have declined to run that drop when paddling the Black in the past and, after watching this video, will probably do the same in the future. I wonder if he ran Rainbow after that...

The second camera from 42 to 57 makes the video longer than his time in the hole. Look at when he gets up and takes two strokes, but then gets sucked back in; it is there on both camera angles. Crazy hydraulics to throw him back up the drop.
Wow. Also realize he's in there longer than the length of video as there's a cut & a fade edit during his boil. Great camera & post production AWA audio selection. THIS VIDEO ROCKS!!!
Wow! Yes, Boomer, you are indeed the man. BALLsy to stick that out, but after seeing that 2nd drop, not really much of a choice... At least there were a few spotters for him.
That was definitely worth watching. Knowing well how long time in a hole seems when you're in it, I'm even more impressed with the perseverence that Boomer showed. Running that drop after having just been throughly trashed is also pretty impressive! Granted, I imagine that was quite a good motivator not to bail out there. :-)

@pitchandmiss I think there was enough room for him to bail and swim to shore. The clip was fast forwarded at that point.

Hes in there 33 to 42, 57 to 1:33, about 45 sec.
