This is not the method that I use. I hold the needles in the other hands i.e. in the orientation that I knitted the stitches/row that I want to tink.

I liked your technique, but I would have like to see how you picked off a purl stitch, too. I've only been knitting a year & I'm still unsure about keeping the correct twist on a stitch.
