anybody that thinks these techniques do not work.....has never experienced it. torture works, always has and always will. every man has breaking point.
To suggest that voluntarily being waterboarded is a comparable experience as being waterboarded by the enemy after being captured seems to also suggest that a woman making love with her husband is the comparable experience as that same woman being kidnapped by strangers and forced into the same sexual acts, against her will. Yet, that has it's own term...rape.
has an hour to wait till a bomb goes off, he'll wait that hour under torture or give false information which will take up resources i.e. searching for a bomb in the wrong place, especially if, as with muslim fundamentalist terrorists they believe in a consequent paradise-like afterlife. "The term Terrorism is the rhetorical servant of the established order".
(the only way to win a terrorist war is hearts and minds as northern ireland shows) also - torture is known to provide unreliable intel -if a terrorist
So let's say you and twenty other people are being held hostage by some terrorist group. The head terrorist gives you an option: you can save yourself and 18 other people if you torture one of the people. What would you do ?
when your entire country is bankrupt and owned by China and Isreal, you might actually start to realize that the biggest criminals (war and otherwise) are the US administration. Pretty typical considering history... what country is the only country to have ever used the most distructive WMD ever? The good old US of A! How's that for ironic? Who are the terrorists? How many civilians died in Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Or is "any means necessary" only a non-terrorist position when said by an American
Water boarding, and any other means, should be used on terrorist if it means saving the life of one American. Terrorist are considered war criminals, and they have no rights.
Who said terrorists are war crims? Don't you have to be tried first. Oh I forgot the USA does not recognise The Hague tribunal so I suppose that a war criminal is anyone GW Bush says and not anyone from his administration (Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, etc.).
exactly-- morons like consun24 and frostjackMP aren't really aware of such complicated concepts as trials, evidence, doubt-- just show them where the trigger/button is.
@consun24 actually if they are considered war criminals they do have rights. war criminals are tried and convicted. i understand that torture may save lives but torture is also considered to be somewhat ineffective. the people being tortured will only tell you what you wish to hear and can only be effective on people that have operational knowledge. with that being said only the higher ups will ever know the true knowledge and they usually kill themselves before they are captured.
Printed on page A6 of the Friday, December 7th issue of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer is an Associated Press (AP) news article which says it all, right in the same paragraph:
"CIA Director Michael Hayden said the CIA began taping the interrogations as an internal check on the program after PRESIDENT BUSH AUTHORIZED THE USE OF harsh questioning methods. The methods included WATERBOARDING, WHICH SIMULATES DROWNING, government officials said."

@bigrob981 Anyone who thinks that this does work probably probably thinks that the waterboard-ees are honest, well meaning people.

They're not doing this right. There should be a towel over their mouth, to ensure less air is able to be inhaled. It makes it 10 times worse.

Torturing 1 person to prevent the deaths of many innocent people is sound logic. Fuck you if you can't distinguish logic from emotion.
