I'm sure this is Iggy Pop. It sounds exactly like the closing theme except without the vocal. Also, it credits Iggy Pop in this opening theme. I would have thought they would have credited the Plugz if it were them.
before i get my anorak, apparently the story behind the instrumental version is that mr pop was given 2 days to write & record the main theme song. the band consisted of steve cook from the sex pistols & clem burke & nigel harrison from blondie. as per usual, mr pop hadn't yet bothered to compose any lyrics, plus he was all coked up, so the band layed down some instrumental versions on the first day (which you have here) until mr pop could get his act together the next day and record the vocals.
I heard that the instumental version was done by The Plugz to fit the opening graphics. It was never put on the soundtrack. I don't think it's available anywhere unless you rip it off the DVD.
Yo, regarding the Main Titles version of IGGY POP's "Repo Man" NOT being on the actual soundtrack, just copy the link to this video and paste it in an "VIDEO to MP3" internet engine, and follow the instructions on the engine's website.
It's free, easy, and only takes as little as 30 seconds for it to give you an MP3 version of whatever video you want made into MP3 audio or any audio.
Everyone talks about "Sixteen Candles" or "St Elmo's Fire" or "The Breakfast Club" for 1980s movies. This is the best comedy of that decade on lots of levels.
Still think the music sounds better on my distorted vhs tape.
