  • I love this song and im 13..I feel so good because everybody listens to Lady gaga and i listen to thoughtful beautiful tracks keep me awe inspired to listen to more. Thanks @KateBushMusic love you xxx

  • Trivia: Kate's son Albert sings the chorus

  • is just amazing

  • I all of a sudden want to get off my computer. Wow how could she have predicted this?

  • this is awesome!!

  • This Rules. I see there are "one album fans" on here.

  • i love her

  • Meh on this. I am extremly excited that she is out here again! Kate is a talent that that was one off too often. Her time needs to truly come.

  • This is the best director's cut track; the most improved by a country mile. Stunning to think that she wrote this in 1989 and people 22 years later are sat staring at screens, communicating via FB etc.

  • I'm with the 88 people who, although we are rabid KaTe Fans, are brave and honest enough to admit that even KaTe makes a mistake once in a while.

The autotune trivializes the "deeper meaning" of this song. Sorry KaTe, I love you, and have been a fan since the very beginning, but this is one of the TINY minority of songs you've done that just has me shaking my head, and thinking "WTF was KaTe thinking on this one?" But I'll admit, the harmonica at the end is a funky touch, and almost redeems it.

  • @stereodreamer23 it makes the 'computer' seem more real, whats wrong with that?

  • 87 arm folders going ."harrumph...I didn't sign up for this. Down with this sort of thing".... Listen, kate can read a shopping list and she'll still take you to the places

  • just amazing girl

    kate rules

    just amazing song

    kate forever

  • This is the end

  • i love this woman

  • yuck can't stand that autotune

  • have to agree really like this one after a few listens

  • 86 people are dead inside...

  • Much better than the original, it may upset some people but I'm not a huge fan so for me the original has no sentimental value.

  • i absolutely love this new version. but i still prefer the original tho.

  • Amazing version! Absloutely stunning! Well worth the 6 year wait!

  • more relevant now than it was back then.

  • Album no2 in Uk charts already.

  • Maybe it's a commentary on the overuse of auto-tune in today's studios?

  • I am going out to buy the Deluxe edition a 3 disc wonder on Monday cant wait

  • Kate Bush remains one of the outstanding contributors to our musical tapestry for some 30 plus years..Never boring always thought provoking and wonderous.

Once in a lifetime such genius comes along we love you Kate..My heart forever

  • I wish GLADOS sang the Computer part

  • @yendor79 Actually on 2nd hearing it kinda sounds GlaDOS-ish

  • @yendor79 LOL that would be epic!!

  • I'm addicted to this song

  • wspaniale jak zawsze mix kate i signum temporis

  • I really like the *rest of* this release, not so much this track really, but there you go.

  • This the thing: I think the title "director´s cut" is a little deceiving. Why? Cos when you read this from a film you suppose that the original wasnt what the director really wanted. In Kate´s album we listen to ALTERNATE takes. And an experiment: Kate using JOyce´s words for another version for The sensual world. the result? The original Sensual world lyrics are better!!! What Kate delivered us can´t be changed or modified, that´s why we supposed her works take so long to develop.

  • was perfect the first time. didn't need changing. i don't see how the strange synthy stuff it improves it.

  • was perfect the first time. didn't need changing. i don't see how the strange synthy stuff it improves it.

  • I too prefer the original..the clarity and feeling..the depth that is reached with her original vocal there cannot be matched..it brings me to tears each time..but I think a rerelease is timely..we are so wrapped up in our little black boxes anymore..

  • kates voice souds like it's back in the 90's I love it she's fantastic I wish she was more popular here in USA so she would have to come here the last time I saw her was on SNL in 76 i think i thought "who is that woman" i was just a kid and it took 20 years to fall in love with her music.

  • I love it! Going out to by it tomorrow and get a nice bottle of red to enjoy with.

  • i hear fish people.

    ;-)

  • this only proves that Kate is human. The greatest female artist can also make mistakes. An I celebrate it cos it will give us a greater artist. Of course that IM still and ALWAYS BE a huge FAN.

  • I agree but somethings must remain in the archves. Anyway we love Kate´s work. She always creates great expectations on her work. I looking forward to the next album.

  • Have always liked this song. Have known people that it fit too well. New version, likely to grow on me with a few listens, but do like the cleaner original version better myself. Doesn't really make one better then the other, it's about personal choices.

Makes me almost miss the old phone modem with it's buzzes, beeps and clicks. ;D

  • It´s going very deep... well, a new style, but it opened my eyes... thanks Kate, that Video on your homepage looked very nice, lots of love!xxx

  • hahaha im relax, but if you dont believe me check the entire "album" (" ") its, really, sorry but, very disapointting.

One reasonable reason maybe is the fact that Kate is presenting her own record label, Fish, i think its called: this record may be a hook. A very poor hook

Its like Kate against Kate. just listen:

go to ww.npr.org and look for /first-listen-kate-bush-directors-cut

  • wait, why did this take six years to record? haha

  • um, idk what people are talking about. The original is so much better this is kind of ridiculous.

  • @katebush #katebush WHATS THIS WHAT HAPPENED PLEASE ET.S GIVE US BACK THE REAL KATE!!!!

this are like sketches, these are like before the songs we already know. why rip them off by kate herself???? why why the end of the world sure it is. =(

  • @gabri3logiatx relax

  • @gabri3logiatx.i knew it wasn t to please all the fans.i m working on a new album,all new songs.all the love.KB

  • this would be perfect if GLaDOS sang the chorus :D

    still, beautiful song.

  • i prefer all the original songs by far...but its her work, so she can do with it whatever she likes. i do however look forward to actual new work of hers. its been too long since Arial was released....ill be waiting to be inspired...and if it fails to do so, ill have plenty of old cd's and vinyl of Kate to fulfill my needs :)

  • Haha, as so many new bands are (still) trying to reproduce the 80s, Kate does the opposite....

  • I've followed Kate Bush's music from the start but I'm not the kind of fan that accepts everything as great. Fortunately she rarely disappoints. I was never keen on this song and find the remake on par with the original. However her voice has aged well. The clip of the new version Sensual World has the deep voice the song should have had originally. She is an artist that will be around for her life span. Too bad "You're the One" did not get new vocals and removal of the 80's organ.

  • Kate Bush has always held a place in my heart eventhough her voice isn't the same as it was on the 70's or 80's she's still a creative being filled with so much tallant...Kate does it her way or the highway and that is creative freedom

  • Travelled through life with Kate so far. Her voice sounds a bit more aged. I love this version and love the comments here. Beauty in music, love and peace.

  • Fantastic!!!!!!

  • I'll be interested to hear The Director's Cut and will keep an open-mind. As people say, Kate has been doing remixes for years so there's no need to feel threatened that the old songs will be sclipsed. But I admit I'd be far more interested to hear some new material. The Sensual World and The Red Shoes were fascinating but not, for me, her most distinctive work. I prefer the otherwordly musical landscapes of Aerial.

  • I don't get the narrative of the video, and I liked the old version of "Deeper Understanding" better. This version is too long, and the sound effects are so awful that I don't want to listen to it again. Sorry Kate.

  • an interesting experiment - probably easier to appreciate if you DON'T know the original. I think I prefer the simple "pure" chorus melody of the original. but this version may well grow on me with repeat listenings.

  • The spacey harmonica jam part is amongst the best music Kate has recorded!

  • I usually stop listening to a song if it uses that voice distortion, so over used by Kayne West and most people who can sing. But it fits perfectly in this song, its my favourite part of the song!

  • All this fighting because people have different opinions....such a shame. So I am not blown away by this. You can't win them all. I hate vocoders and everything they stand for. I do have every album Kate Bush ever brought out and this is not going to be one of them. So what? Lots of people do like it and they will get this. The world keeps turning. I'll stick to the previous version that I still think is awesome.

  • Love this. Love what she has done with the vocal.

  • Love it.

  • Must say this IS quintessential Kate Bush; always good to hear from the lass. Although I must say I'm a little uncomfortable with how the vocoder is applied (I'm generally ok with them except in Top40 songs). Love the subject matter. In this electronic age, we are more connected but sadly even less so.

  • I'm shocked. Did the fabulous musical genius and magically-inspired Kate Bush run out of ideas? I hope there is something fresh and new to come soon.

  • @ajnastarheart

Apparently she has been working on new material not related to Director Cut since March so yay ^_^

  • Kate has the money to hire advicers, this sucks, is done in a playful haste and the inner meaning of the song is totally destroyed in something bla-ha.But faans are blindfolded i guess.Ilove her music not her directing

  • <zjxkjxkxj

  • The song is great but the directing and acting plain awful made in a haste. The meaning of the song is totaly lost in something bla-ha.Kate you have the money to hire advicers.A great letdown but i am looking forward to the record

  • @dongyue Well, lots of people like it, I'm sure. And I doubt Ms Bush is particularly interested in the opinions of someone that can't even spell advisers.

  • Stop the comments who says something about the # of likes, dislikes or views at a particular time, they just dont make any sense after a while, and for some reason ppl keep thumbing them up, its annoying :S

  • I would have said that the Trio Bulgarka was a major strength of the original, but actually it makes more sense without them. I like the vocal line for her son, but I could do without the Max Headroom voice effects: maybe there was a more subtle way of making him sound like a computer? Interestingly, having the boy treble ties this song up nicely with "All The Love", which is on a similar theme.

  • I absolutely love this version. It's definitely a separate song from the original. I think this shows a mournful and scary quality in the new computer voice. it's almost as if it's been programmed to sound as though it speaks with emotion. The musical bit at the end feels so expressive of being lost in not being able to make a human connection Brilliant as always. This woman is genius!

  • Not sure what I think about this version yet. As usual her songs must be listened to more than twice before you are able to make an opinion. This is more like a remix than a new version.

Anyway I am glad she's back.

  • Getting very excited now, even talk of gigs. I've grown up with Kate's music it would be fantastic to hear her live. fingers crossed it happens.

  • The instrumentation here is amazing. This is so much simpler, yet more modern-sounding than the 1989 version. Breathtaking.

  • I've got a feeling she was right...

  • is she singing in a cockney accent or is just me?

  • Oh... I still listen to this!!! 569 plays on my iTunes,

and still AMAZING!!! Thank you Kate! =)

  • THESE NEW VERSIONS ARE SUPERB, AMAZING

  • Well I love it. And I love Kate. And if you lot could just all shut up arguing about it well that would be nice!

  • Lets start off by saying I've always been a KB fan. Music is music. You either love it or hate it. I was a bit disappointed with the idea of updating old tracks but it still got that someting for me. This will be a tester to a new age with promise of great things to come.

  • lazy kate 5 year wait 12 years aerial no tours =life time devotion bought all albums singles box set and is this all you could come up with with your own studio please write some thing new will it be another ten years for you to get over your lazyness think about your loyal fans for once and not yourself you have become self obsseseed and dont think we will buy evrey thing ... im sorry its rubbish and i wont be buying it ...thanks for the 5 year wait

  • @17alicewonder BOOO HOOO. You sound like a child.

  • what a shame its pure lazyness and unforgivable after such a wait we get rehashed tracks which are weak with her studio and all the time in the world she could come up with something better and new HER FANS DESERVE MORE .at least a new album this is rubbish i think you are taking advantage of you fans as you are to lazy to write new material ...remember no tours 12yearwait aerial get over yourself.ive lost respect

  • As an early Kate Bush fan, going all the way back to "Wuthering Heights", I'm not sure there's much artistic merit to these re-mixed, auto-tuned reissues. It seems more like a gimmick to me; intended to draw young listeners, who may not be acquainted with her music. Great artists don't have to recreate their art to make it more palatable to a new generation. I trust the upcoming remasters, as well as new songs Kate is composing, will turn on a new generation to her genius, without gimmickry.

  • How beautiful is this.

  • The 'Kate Bush' the world has never seen before.

  • this version is much more accurate, it's right on the spot, somehow with years maybe even Kate got deeper understanding of her own material. and that's what she's saying to us... i think that 4 an artist to revisit her art - is a great process to be a part of! thank you Kate Bush!

  • Comment removed

  • @proto1type butchered her own work and almost unforgivable ? 10000 others claim they are the biggest fan of her ... you must have been confused with Kate Bieber ...

  • @secondbible The name "Bieber" does not ring any bells with me. Is this some little kid who has millions of little girls weak at the knees with some load of latter day noise that masquerades as "music" ? You are doing the genius Kate Bush a monumentally unwarranted disservice by mentioning this Bieber individual in tha same breath. Don't post again until you have done some growing up and/or have learned how NOT to exhibit your naieveté and ignorance.

  • @proto1type 1- no not him ... his mom. but anyway, i see that you are almost holier than the pope in rome, sitting at the right hand of kate bush, watching down on us sinners. the kate bush bible has also attracted pharisees who want to turn her into stone, trying to keep her in the box. but no one can keep a kate bush in the box. she will always outthink them, and do something totally unexpected to catch them unguarded. you act like you are george w. bush or something (continued)

  • @proto1type 2- like you are her father or something ? you are her self-appointed biggest, most loyal fan, yet

you hang a sword of damocles above her head, saying she is almost unforgivable. she made this album to set her spirit, her creativity and imagination free. this is why the old priesthood has to fall. you can have your opinion of course, but she doesn't owe you anything, and you shouldn't use such heavy loaded words against her. i have read several posts of you. keep the respect.

  • @secondbible Thank you for reading all of my posts. I will NOT be reading any more of yours so don't waste your time repsponding. I suggest you look up the definition of the word "respect" - you obviously don't know it otherwise you would show some of it for the opinions of others when they don't concur with your own.

  • @proto1type and here you lose any form of reason, and i'm pushing the troll alert button. you think you can trash her and getting away with it. that's not an opinion anymore. good that you can't read my posts anymore. at least there's something which will make you back off. i respect opinions, but it reaches a borderline where you start harmful control tactics.

  • Beethoven once said of Bach and his music that " with him lies the truth"... I can think of no other artiste in subsequent years that has the talent to warrant a mention in the same sentence as these two giants of music or to which these few words might also be applied.... Kate can release whatever she wants to in my book!

  • the kate bush starship enterprise has entered the atmosphere ... welcome aboard, but guess what ... i'm going to kick some butt : KB can do whatever she wants with her stuff, and she isn't replacing anything, just adding extra re-mixes. KB doesn't owe you anything. she has already graced you and earth with so much, and so much love. when are you going to give back to her ??????? the time is NOW !

  • I have the original imprinted in my mind, so listening to this doesn't work. It's inferior to the original in so many aspects. Maybe if this was the original instead, it could work as a new song. But at this point one cannot help doing comparisons. Her voice had more depth, the genius arrangements, trio bulgarka..This song never needed a video in the first place. It was perfect as it was. Truth be told: Kate has lost her mojo, but IMO she is still the best female composer and singer of all times

  • @secondbible - "when are you going to give back to her ??????? the time is NOW !" I bought everything on vinyl (inc ALL singles for b' sides), then c.d & again from iTunes. Now I bought this and if I want to leave a comment about it I will.

We all love her music and she doesn't need you to speak for her.

My comment is that this is hilariously bad - voice effects straight from Laurie Anderson - 1981 "O Superman" - she has just recorded her voice into a vintage synth. It's like a bad joke.

  • More relevant than ever

  • I would have preferred something new. :-(

And I liked her old Aerial website much, much more than the new one.

  • @SteamFanHannover Well she is working on something new, we just don't know what. There will also be reissues of The Dreaming and Hounds of Love (whether another Director's Cut I don't know)

  • @Yetaxa: I was (am) a fan of Kate Bush so far.

But now I find her covering herself, which is not very original. Knowing and loving the original song, I just do not understand why this song has to be, why it is not possible to find a new melody for this text. Also, I find a new label with the strange name "Fish label" (how do Kate Bush and fish belong together?), with a very ugly label, which will also be pressed on the coming CDs. You can see it all at 6:00. Honestly, I do not like it.

  • @Yetaxa: Correction: The new label has an ugly logo. I think the word "label" can also be used for "logo".

It seems to ME that Kate Bush was contacted by someone who just wants to earn money with her. He/She talked to her in one of her weak moments, made her kick out her old label, took her old material and remixed it in a computer. Now we, the consumers, shall buy it to make the new producers of "Fish People" happy. Kate Bush, sitting at home and doing nothing special, shall make them rich.

  • @SteamFanHannover The new one isn't even up yet--how can you dislike it before it exists? Just asking...

  • @0MirrorGirl: An old melody with a new text is anything but creative, and so far away from what I am used to from Kate Bush. :-(

It will also destroy the original song. You cannot enjoy them as the original songs, as before, you will now know them as songs which are raped with a new text and some minor musical changes. It makes me kind of dislike Kate.

Saying this as Kate Bush fan from Germany. I have everything from Kate, but I do not want this "Director's Cut".

  • @SteamFanHannover I meant the new website isn't up yet. You said you didn't like it as much as the Aerial site, and I'm wondering how you can dislike something that is still being built.

Kate has been doing remixes for years--the 4 singles from Hounds of Love were all remixed and released as singles, but no one freaked out then about the songs being "raped" or otherwise ruined. If you don't like the new versions of these songs, don't listen, and don't buy the album. Seems simple to me.

  • @0MirrorGirl: Fans and supporters and buyers of all albums so far like me are allowed to express their opionion, and this is what I do.

I still do not know if I will buy the new album.

About the website: Websites which are "under construction", "is coming soon", annoy me, especially when they are as ugly and amateurish as the current katebush com website, which is not Kate-like!

I have to say this. The admin here is allowed to understand and to remove this comment.

  • @SteamFanHannover And are you saying you "kind of dislike her" as a person because you don't like an artistic decision? You don't know her as a person--no way can you know whether you'd like her or dislike her in real life (these imaginary relationships fans have are so strange). And are you saying if you were her friend, you'd now dislike her because of one song you aren't thrilled with? Some friend.

I've been listening since '78 & don't love every song, but she's still my favorite artist.

  • @0MirrorGirl: Kate was always my favorite artist. Her Aerius album is the album of a true genius. However, I have said what I had to say.

    I found Kate's old website at katebush.co.uk

  • Sorry, I meant "Aerial". "Aerius" is the name of my antihistamine. :-)

  • It is simply incredible to read the comments here. "massacre", "butchered", bla bla, bla. Come on, there is nothing like a "sacred" song. Fans are really weird sometimes. I always trusted Kate to surprise her audience, and she always did, and i love her music since 1978, when i was 13. Even when i didn't like the result, it was surprising.

  • these ''fans need a good slap'! let kate get on with it and release the album.

You would think by now we would trust her to do something interesting.

  • A "loyal" fan can also be an honest fan. I don't have to pretend , saying things like "Oh, WOW, this is so BRILLIANT" when what I feel inside is "Om My God, this is such a load of shit". I can quite legitimately "pass judgement before the album comes out" because it will be just like the massacre of Deeper Understanding - extended to a whole other bunch of wonderful songs that should NOT have been tampered with.

  • @proto1type But why are you so passionate about the "loyal" fans calling it brilliant? Maybe they really do think it is! I for one am a very loyal fan, and there are plenty of songs that I'm quite honest about--I don't like "Heads We're Dancing," I don't like the first version of "Lily," and I could go on. But, I think this is BRILLIANT! Stop acting so high and mighty just because YOU feel something like "shit" inside.

That's your problem, mac. Get it fixed.

  • @keithdeweese If you had read my comment properly, you will have noticed I said that what I feel inside is "Oh My God, this is such a load of shit" - I did not state that "[I] feel like shit inside". Therefore nothing needs fixing, because I do not have a problem. Neither am I acting all "high and mighty" - I am simply expressing my opinion, which I am perfectly entitled to do. But it should be of concern to you that your cage is so easily rattled - maybe YOU have a problem ?????

  • @proto1type Blah, blah, bloody blah.

  • I love it, but I can't help thinking the chorus is being sung by GlaDOS. "This is a triumph......." lol.

  • just because kate doesnt release much material doesnt mean that it all has to have the same effect and gravity. kate makes music when she wants to and sings what she wants to sing. if revisiting some old songs is what shes been doing then im excited to see what is in store. i like TRS and TSW immensely and never be mine is one of my all time favorite kate songs. however im not going to "worry" about how an old favorite will sound. passing any kind of judgment before the album comes out is silly

  • From the world's BIGGEST AND MOST LOYAL fan of the legend that is Kate Bush :

Kate, you have made a huge mistake. You have butchered your OWN material. I will always love the Sensual World and Red Shoes albums - the originals, of course - but I will not deign to listen to these new interpretations. This is almost unforgivable. I am so saddened.

  • @proto1type How is this butchered? Sounds pretty good to me; I also see it as having a different meaning than the old one, which I think is a cool thing to make happen with nearly the same lyrics. The change in meaning was merely because of the change in sounds she chose to use. What other artists do you know that can do that?

  • @proto1type you're a dork dude. get a fucking life

  • uh? 65 stupid Bieber fans?

  • She'd better not fuck with "This Woman's Work".

  • @byan85 she already did. it's sounds like she farts during the whole song.

  • @ninbin34 no, that's just the noise of your hearing aid ... please, contact your hearing aid specialist about this matter

  • @secondbible have you heard it?

  • Comment removed

  • This mix is becoming rather addictive indeed : ) its fun to sing along too ( knowing the original well also helps.)

  • Sharp.

    Fast and reflective.

    A very tidy work.

Very nice, I really like the fall back to the echo technique used on "Hounds"

What can you say.. She has done it again!

  • It IS sublime. Chills all over. Artistic achievement. I like it a LOT!

Thank you Kate, again....and hopefully again....

  • This song always brought tears to my eyes. The feeling of alienation is spectacular. This new version is amazing. I can't stop crying.

  • La magie sublime de Kate <3 Namasté <3

  • La magie sublime de Kate <3 Namasté <3

  • At first I didn't like this version, but now I think it's growing on me. The chorus seemed jarring at first, but now I think it almost sounds better than the original version's. Though the lyric about "picking up the phone" to use the computer makes me chuckle.

  • @3rdusername Maybe she's using her 3G/smartphone (though not an iPhone, Kate is way to smart and informed to buy one of those things) to access her home computer network, after all she'd still have to pick it up to do that :-)

  • This version moves me more and more. I love the chorus very much; there's something haunting about it!

  • I love this reworking! there's a certain note in the chorus which gives me the chills everytime I listen it. It's just so sublime.

  • Spectacular.

  • WOW... Still amazing!!! =)

I thought I could get bored of it, since it's not a new track,

but she took it to another dimension. Awesome!!

  • IOVE YOU KATE BUSH

  • 5 years wait for this. Quite sad really - perhaps we've always come to expect too much. Love Kate Bush from the start but this is the worst thing she has ever done. All those people that say they like it ....in 6 months which version will you be listening to? This or the amazing original

  • @djsdvs Its brilliant, to stand alongside the original. Well done Bertie to stand up and sing the chorus alonside your mum, not easy at all.

  • @djsdvs This one... definately.

  • love the bluesy feel to this ... picture kate in a smoke filled studio late at night, tapping her foot and unleashing that other worldly voice... magical

  • Wonderful! Like the military drum beat and the addition of harmonicas...

  • Comment removed

  • It doesn't do anything for me. I don't like it. Sorry.

  • The longer i listen to this, the more i know this piece of music is heavenly!

    You did it again, Kate!!!!

  • In my opinion...this version takes the song to a new BIG level up!! They should teach about Kate Bush as an art/music at schools!! She isn't just another artist....she is THE artist!!!

  • As usual with Kate Bush it is somewhat amusingly eccentric, but always captivating and emotionally poignant.

  • Beautiful.

  • as usual Kate has done it again that "rhodes" piano feel, i love her subtleties the more you listen the more you hear she is truly a one off

  • the original amazing, and this version is also amazing. They impact me in different ways, and i think they are both equally as great.

  • Brilliant idea of involving Bertie, I love it. Well done Kate!

  • Why Why Why re-work something that was perfect, this mix sounds so dated already.

  • I love this version. I think this song got another message than the original.

Because this time it's her SON who sings:

"Hello, I know that you've been feeling tired. I bring you love and deeper understanding. Hello, I know that you're unhappy. I bring you love and deeper understanding."

So maybe the new message is: There IS much love to give and receive, but you have to seek in the right places. (Like Family, but not computers) Her son proves this point of view.

  • she has a beautiful voice, doesn't she ? like a dreamy, lovely fairy, re-entering the world she came from, after the great mission she had, taking so many with her :) welcome back.

  • 56 fools trying to quench the singing candle. 686 elves will let it sing forever.

  • @secondbible

    awwww. how cute.
