Hello I would really like to teach English in Korea, I have a University Degree but absolutely no teaching experience. I am confused as to which course I should take, how many hours, on line course, in the class room? As I have no experience and would like to gain some confidence I feel that a course which at least involves some class room work and maybe some online work may be a good option? There does not seem to be any set guide lines. Have you got any advice for me, thanks Ollie (UK)
You must be western Canadian. I learned when I moved here that people say "...right?" as a confirmation at the end of a sentence very often. People can come to a country without researching if they are flexible people, but otherwise, be prepared to suffer!
I teach English abroad and have been at it since 2001. I have two YouTube channels and also do Dailymotion. Most of my experiences have been negative. A TEFL certification is not necessary, I have found. Try to talk to former employees. I am a consultant for people who wish to expatriate, change careers, etc. and they often do not want to hear the cold, hard facts I put forth. I like your advice about reaching out to former employees!
One of the best TEFL certification schools is International TEFL Academy, they train nearly 1,000 students a year to be professional English teachers and help graduates find jobs in Asia, Europe, Latin America and Middle East.
If you're going to come here, do your research..and make sure you research. And another thing, you're going to want to do some research before you come here, so make sure you research your options, because if you don't do resarch it would be bad not to research, so remember to research.
Hey, Mr Tips, enough of the repetition and reinforcement. If you can't make it fluent, make a script, '@ 0:25 - much, many less surprises', maybe even 'fewer'.
Also, I have a tip for how to make a video, as soon as you begin making points give a comparison, don't just say if you don't know then research. Give pointers, for example,
'If you don't know the difference between public or private, read into working hours, teaching curriculums, discipline procedure etc' or anything relevant.
landsell in Japan has not been paid for some time and I am in France and still have not been paid for university lectures done around Paris. I worked for this administration before but just found out they are not even subject to labor courts in France, they can just do what they want. inlingua is absolutely to be avoided. Very good video, uprated.
If you read the contract and decide not to take job. You can just turn down the offer and apply for a different job posting? Im a little confused about how that works after they give you the contract.
@AshleyTori Yeah they generally think you'll sign the contract once they give it to you, but if you really don't want it, you don't have to. In most cases you should be able to get a sample copy of the contract to review before you get the official one to sign. That way you can know before you get too far into the process...
Please help! I'm just starting my research, but I'm a little overwhelmed by all the information out there. I have a B.A. in Political Science, but I don't have any teaching experience. Do I need a TEFL certificate? Should I contact the schools directly, go through an agency, or the goverment? Any suggestions from those who've already gone through the process?
Hey Guys! This is John Septien. I've been a teacher for many years. I really enjoy teaching. Through out my teaching years I have been able to create effective games to teach all levels. One of my favourite games is called go fish! If you want to see them just enter youtube and write "didacta10" and that's it.
I'm very interested in teaching abroad. So if there is still a chance please let me know. My e-mail is juanmseptien@hotmail.com
I'm looking to finish my year contract n the International School of Panama, I'm a TA. I would like to start in Aug 2011, should I begin applying from now or sooner to my desired date. Also, does applying to too many companies or recruiters look bad on behalf of my part? Thanks.
Doing research into your chosen destination is really important. Speaking to people who are in that country teaching English is a great way to prepare yourself. If you type on Google i-to-i chalkboard you can start chatting to people full of people who will be more than happy to give you advice.
Public school are almost always the safer bet. The government contracts and conditions of service are pretty standardized across the whole of South Korea, Public schools:
• offer standardized salary scales that are better than private "hagwon" schools
• tax-free status for your first 2 contracts
• generally bigger/more comfortable apartments
• longer vacations
• no night school, no teaching on weekend/public holidays.
These are just good advice in general, whatever you do in life. Are there really people who sign contracts without reading them on things that are as big of a deal as living in a different country for as long as a whole year? It almost sounds like you're kidding. More often than not I get the feeling that a lot of Americans don't take things as seriously as they should. I like adventures but not everything should be for shits and giggles.
@esloutlet Hi brother thanks for the advice! I am hoping to get my certification soon can i ask you what schools would be legit for me to be certified because I know there scams. What school were you certified at? Thank you for your time!

@cdixon5150 Okay but let me ask you this... should I do some research or should I just come there and hope everything works out?
