Montserrat Caballe "Fruhling" Strauss' Vier Letzte Lieder

Me encanta la Caballe, y es quizás la soprano que más me gusta porque cada dia aprendo algo nuevo escuchándola., pero en las cuatro ultimas canciones del gran R.Strauss las cuales adoro no esta muy pletórica y la denoto un tanto fría, pero se le perdona.

Caballe certainly has the voice for Strauss but she also doesn't quite have the interpretation of these songs, although way better than Renee Fleming.

Hmm, is she really singing "german"? And its soooo slow. Impressive, but could move on a bit. Well done conductor for staying with her.

I heard Montserrat Caballe sing these songs on another occasion and at the time thought her voice was a bit too red blooded/Mediterranean for there songs, but she sounds good here.

Maybe singers' voices vary with the weather, their mood, whether on not they rowed w/ hubby or the b/f earlier in the day, etc., etc., etc. Well, all of that adds interest ha. If they all sounded exactly the same they might become a bit boring after a while. Variation is the spice of life...

@kapariz44 How ironic! When asked on catalan tv she said Strauss "Vier Letzte Lieder & Salome ending" once performed in NY with Zubin Mehta was her more satisfying performance.
