Luis is definately on to something. I do a lot of this now.

- Putting your knowledge in a secure work community is far more efficient than sending lots of email.

- If I want to find a solution I'll always search for the solutions first. It's simply faster than sending out an email request.

- Best of all,the more people use collaboration communites the more it will reduce internal notification emails. In communities you can subscribe to what you want when you need it.

Something missing here is that most corporations, companies and organisations have confidential information, once you start posting that in public - the legal dept is going to step on you fast.

So this guy is only advocating moving the medium, not solving a problem - but moving it. It is like saying watching TV is wasting time, watch DVD's instead, or YouTube.
