Terrifying. This performance shows none of the power development biomechanics that are classically associated with this form. Displacement of the heel, no use of the back on any of the double-punching, no waist mechanics to speak of.
I kant see how this is a dumbed-down version? it has exactly all the same movements as most gong li quan i've seen. so how is it a dumbed-down form(made easier?)...also i see no wushu jumping n spining to make it wushu-ish? sounds more like "blind" bashin n hatin just cuz itzs a wushu performer doing the form. But if it the title said traditional, you probably say she was good.
I learned a gong li form from Victor Fu (grandson of Fu Chen-Sung)in Vancouver, Canada about ten years ago. I have been trying to relearn the form from my aging memory when I stumbled across this video. It has sparked my memory and can now remember the form. It is not exactly the same but over all follows the same sequence.
Fu Zhen Song (Victor Fu's grandfather) probably brought Gong Li Quan in to the Fu Family Arts as a result of his involvement with the Nanjing Central Kuoshu Institute, where the Northern Shaolin Long Fist curriculum was codified.
Victor Fu uses some "unique" body mechanics, his "rebounding" power, which he says was developed by his father. However, the sequence of movements from version to version of Gong Li Quan are the same, so if you remember the body mechanics, you're OK.
1 of our most under rated forms. I think people overloof cause it's not as aesthetically pleasing as say San Lu Pao, but as seen by her demonstration it can be played beautifully.
This is an exceptional style. Looks very similar to Cha Quan and Tan Tui. I wonder if the actress Gong Li has ever considered studying Gong Li Quan ^_^
i wouldn't call this rendition "rigid or dumbed down". at least its not the fakey white guy "kung fu" that you see so much of on youtube.

I guess it's not good to some people because she is performing the routine with power and spirit, unlike many 'traditional' routines I've seen. Lol

A really rigid, dumbed-down wushu rendition of the Jingwu version of the set...

yeah it's pretty wushu-riffic

yeah.... i wouldn't say dumbed down. but its definately missing important emphasis on certain movements and overall strength/spirit
