  • You mention near the end of the video that if the intellectually fulfilled evangelicals decide to stay evangelicals, they might change evangelical Christianity into something not recognizable as itself. In what way would they change it?

  • Just to be clear, I am most referring to American Evangelicalism of the "free church" variety. It has tended to be very much ahistorical and its beliefs and praxis has often been dominated by sheer emotionalism, anti-intellectualism, and anti-sacramentalism. All of this is antithetical to the historic belief and practice of the Church and a reconnection with its roots would seem to me to mean a vast change in the direction of the movement.

  • (2:44) I've listen to the podcast and I think WLC agreed with the article at that point. There are many evangelist that can't defend much less articulate the gospel. That's when he mentioned that this was the main reason he launched his website.

  • It's the one titled the Coming Evangelical Collapse. About 7 seconds in you'll hear me saying "American Evangelicalism..it's going down and it's going down hard." This was actually not my opinion but my synopsis of Spencer's opinion.

  • I've yet to listen to the podcast but from listening to some of your points, specifically the ones at the end, I think you were on to something. Does the life of a mind lead to a Christian elsewhere other than evangelicalism? Not necessarily, but I can see how it could easily do so. In my own experience trying to live a life of the mind I've pretty much abandoned inerrancy and accepted things like evolution which evangelicals usually are the opposite. Am I still an evangelical? Cont...

  • I'm not sure. I still feel like I am and still do the same things that I did before, but do recognize the divergence here as I'm sure others would too. I think someone of Dr. Craig's intellect and academic reputation is probably the highest you can get as an evangelical without diverging from the common beliefs. Don't get me wrong, that's still pretty darn high, but any further and you'll probably have to give something. Interesting video. You brought up some good points. Now for that podcast :D

  • You bring up some good points and I certainly would agree Dr. Craig is proof that someone can make Evangelicalism coexist. But there is still the questions brought up by Mark Noll in "The Scandal of the Evangelical Mind". Many brilliant men such as Dr. Craig, Noll, Tom Oden, J. I. Packer, and others have long tried to get Evangelicalism to address the great questions in an intellectually respectable manner but the movement is still dominated by the Joel Osteens of the world.

  • (cont'd) I think this is the reason many young intelligent Evangelicals are drawn to Orthodoxy, Catholicism, and Calvinism. They may have some ill feelings towards one or more doctrines of those movements but they are not afraid to "be the Church" and be intelligent. I think thiis is their major draw compared to popular Evangelicalism. God bless.

  • One of my videos got soundbited (because I could the music that I added to it) but that's about it.

  • haha, I remember when I got soundbited by WLC. I was pretty excited.

  • OK, so it's a very exclusive club. ;>)

  • what an honor

  • Gosh... well done! The good thing about you is that there is no pretence, intellectual egoism and snobbery. Actually, i find your videos very helpful and wonderful. God be with you and yours! Always!

  • Thanks and God bless.
