Mike Wilson was traded for Warrener, who was traded for Chris Drury. Peca was traded for Connolly.
So if we hadn't traded Mogilny (his time in Buffalo was stale without LaFontaine) we wouldn't have had the incredible seasons of 2005-2006 and 2006-2007.
@dbray1 I think it did for both teams. Lafontaine and Mogilny were simply unstoppable. Right up there with Oates and Hull around that time. Now,I f'n hate the Islanders. But there's no denying Dale Hunter robbed the team of an opportunity to win another Stanley Cup.Turgeon was good for 58g and over 130pts that season. They even beat the seemingly unstoppable Pens in the first round. After tha Dale Hunter cheap shot,Turgeon was never the same. Anyway, hail to Alexander "the great" Mogilny!
i only really know mogilny for his few seasons with Toronto. He quickly became my favorite player on the team simply by the respect he commanded when he stepped on the ice. Everyone knew they had to watch him all the time cause he could just dance in and the defense wouldn't even know what happened.
Thanks for the video!! I agree there aren't enough AlMo videos on youtube!! I really miss mogilny...favourite hockey player of all time and the reason I started watching hockey! <3
How come we never heard of Mogilny after he was sent to the New Jersey's minor team??? I think he had something like 12 goals 13 assists in 30 games and then he vanished like nobody cared about him!!! Incredible!
If Bure was Sheriff, then Mogilny was at least the deputy. Great stickhandling skills, i mean look at those defenders, they dont know what to do when Mogilny speeds up to the goal.
mogilny, prob faster than bure with a better shot. but bure's acceleration was unreal and he was already at top speed when you were still tryin to catch up, plus his moves at that speed were mezmerizing. both outstanding hockey players.
mogliny really only excelled when he had a solid center. LaFontaine and Alex the Great set the world on fire, but without Pat he didn't really do much. That being said he was a terror on skates, one of the best pure skaters I've ever seen.
Mogilny was so amazing that even tho I am a goaltender he is, and always will be, my favorite player. Thanks for the vid. Hopin for more vids on youtube of Alexander the Great.
I think the same way. Mogilny will ever be my favorite player. It was fun to watch his skills. Unfortunately he had constand injury problems.
I hate the NJ Devils for the way this idots end his fantastic career. He was strong in his last year but they need scapegoat for coaching and management mistakes. I curse this franchise and hope they will never be the Cup.
So its the Devils fault Mogilny came back to Devils without letting them know about his bum knee? The Devils hands were tied and had to send him down to the minors because..
A.) He could not keep up with NHL speed after his latest and final injury.
B.) They signed him to a generous contract, you cant have that much money sitting on the cap for a player who couldnt perform due to injury.
Mogilny will always be one of my favorite players, what happened to him was unfortunate but not NJ's fault.
Leafs havent been the same SINCE they lost Mogilny in 2005. how sad, he then played on the NJ farm team. should have stayed with Mats on a first line in the NHL.
his wrist shot is amazing

If LaFontaine's #16 is retired - why have the Sabres not retired #89 (or #25 for that matter)?

@AEMoreira81
Post this question again in 3 weeks.
It is being retired on Jan. 1st.

But it was an amazing trade though.
We got Peca, McKee, and Mike Wilson

Mogilny used to play on a line in Russia w/ Bure and Fedorov...
Imagine that line in the NHL when they were all in their prime lol.

true. All three are hall of famers. Federov will get in soon.
