Hi, what settings do you use for shooting video?

Ive tried using manual settings and iA but whenever I copy it onto my computer the quality is appalling compared to what I see on the screen, as well as other people's footage on here. The end result is just jerky and there is a lot of noise (visual rather than audio noise).

Any ideas why? I'm using a Class 2 SDHC card (16gb Sandisk). Would a higher class card make much difference or am I doing something seriously wrong?

The video quality looks phenomenal. I'm dying to get this camera but they don't have it in stock at the moment as it is replaced by the inferior zS7 as far as picture quality goes.

Hi, I had the same problem. I have found a really good programme that can convert the videos like this if you are using avchd (.MTS files). The programme is called "Free HD converter" from Koyotesoft. I have a friend and his channel is anything699 where he has the same camera and a video prievew.

The video is a bit jerky. I can give you some instructions on how to make a steady cam. It just take roller blade parts.

Videos are not jerky, actually smooth as silk when you stream them to your HD TV. WDHD works. Or the Prodigi unit (google pc4usa). Similar to WDHD but cheaper more capable, can merely plug in the SD card with a USB converter (included with some SDHD purchases), drill down to the "Streams" folder via on-screen menu. Just click on any .MTS file in that folder and there's the video, good as gold, playing on your HDTV... the unit even automatically plays each file in succession if u want...

It is a amzing camera,but on the market from februari 2009,so i gues they come with a new more improved model in beginning 2010

You need to transfer the video using the software that came with the camera. After video has been transfered you should see the MTS-file. You can edit in Vegas or Pinnacle Studio, or convert it using FormatFactory and then just edit it in MovieMaker that comes with Windows.

I actually just edited this in MovieMaker. Just converted the videos using FormatFactory. I lost some quality, but it was still pretty good. I have used Pinnacle Studio and Vegas lately for editing videos from the Panasonic as well as from my Canon 7D.

the fireworks show one flaw in common with Cannon cameras and that's the spiking lines when you get flashes of light against a dark background.

I know. This is a feature of the type of chips used in these cameras. If you want better night videos, you have to up the price a bit.

how can you edit .MTS (AVCHD) videos? I bought a Mac specially for this video editing but iMovie doesn't recognize the format, same as .MPG do I need Final Cut? :S

Macs should be able to edit AVCHD. But you can also just change the recording mode in the camera to Motion-JPEG (MOV) and you should be fine. I actually think the videos looks nicer that way. Higher bitrate helps!

yeah, that would be very nice, but i don't think my camera can do that, It records in .MPG or .MTS (AVCHD) and when I convert from AVCHD to .mov with iMovie it looses some quality, so.. what's the point of having a AVCHD camera if then it looses quality.. I have a Sony TG1

Thank you for doing justice to my town with the few moments you were able to capture. Next trip get out of Manhattan and explore the other boroughs that make up the rest of NYC. There are areas that probably look just like where you come from. Really! And the camera you used appears to be an excellent piece of equipment. I see why my son wants one.

Osaebo, I also have this camera. You can use the AVCHD format and use a program like "Handbrake" to convert to avi, mp4, etc... That's what I did before uploading one of my own sample videos (check my username)

I am concerned about the extreme difficulty

of using AVCHD on a Mac. (According to the camera reviews and the Mac forums.) Rumor is Apple might fix this soon so iPhoto and iMovie can be used. Meanwhile,

my plan if I buy would be to enable MPEG instead of AVC in the camera.

I will lose recording time, and quality. I know exactly

how severe the former will be, but not the latter. Does anyone

know where I can find a video showing a comparison, or at

least a ZS3 video shot in MPEG? Thanks.

My feeling is that AVCHD is more jumpy and has less quality - at least on this camera. I have set the camera to record in Motion-JPEG HD (quicktime). Works out great - and a lot easier to edit (more apps supporting it). But the file sizes are twice as big.

T500 is not usable for me as it does not have a good wide angle lens. The 25mm wide lens on the TZ7 is great for photo AND video.

the video quality is really superb when it is viewed in the HD mode on the you-tube screen. but please advise whether the movie quality in HD mode as seen on you-tube via the computer is the original clip and in AVCHD 720 60/30 frames??(same) as that taken by the DC?? i'am thinking of buying it but would like to make sure the quality of movie is really in HD quality PLS REPLY and advice

All I did was just a quick convert to AVI before putting everything together in Windows Movie Maker (did not have my big computer available, so I just did something quick.). The quality is even better if I do a edit without the conversion first.

I just had a Vista laptop available, so I just converted the AVCHD in to AVI using FormatFactory, and then edited the whole thing using Vista's Movie Maker. I bet the result would be even sharper if I used a editing software that could handle AVCHD directly.

I will edit a video shot using the quicktime HD setting as well - to see if there is a big difference in quality.
