LOLOL!! i have become slightly facinateed and obsessed with southern utah via the inet, i have never been there but the desire strikes me deep. your descriptions make that desire grow taller, how dare u! lol i will have to pursue it asap, i do think alone, with a camera and note pad would be quite beneficial.. thanks for including this!!

  • Joe - at 0:24 you are on I15 between Tremonton and Brigham City Utah. Unbelievably random - I love it!

  • That's the road to Tardville. And I mean that in the nicest possible sense.

  • Hahaha - it really is!

  • Wow. Makes me want to go on a road trip to the U.S. someday :)

  • YUP. Nothing else like Utah. I found it and a UFO, out near Beef Basin in 1987. I posted them.

  • Loved it..

  • Utah is beautiful. i too long for the snow covered mountains.

  • excellent work!

  • Have you been to the San Rafael Swell?

  • Utah is real beautiful. How do you like the san jose bay area joe? better or worse than new york?

  • America has good country but utah is realy good

  • Southern Utah is my favorite region of the U.S. Check out

  • DUDE!

That building that has all the welcome home writting on it...thats like 10 minutes from my house!! HELLS YEAH

  • a man of the desert. ah, do you find yourself dreaming to be a Fremen of Arrakis?

    i do.

  • You have a GREAT narrating voice. You could like, get a job narrating books or something.. xD;

  • hey i live there!!!

    hopefully you went to st.george.

  • hey joe I camped through much of this country just a few months earlier. I stayed in both blanding and escalante while i was riding my bike from VA to CA. I think southern utah was the most scenic section.

The funny thing is I was watching your videos during my trip to keep myself informed about the election. there goes that internet weaving experience together...creepy?

thanks for the top notch election coverage, and for keeping this other stuff interesting

  • wooahhh!!! 1:52 are those side mountain inscriptions from the natives like a tohusand years ago???

  • Yes, you can look up the Fremont Indians for more. Their civilization disappeared 2 centuries before Columbus sailed.

  • ...where have you been????

  • hey joe. didn't really want to use my song? lol

  • thats a smooth little dance move there joe... i like it

  • hey i just notice you look like that detective guy from a tv programme called "monk"...

  • Interesting, that's Tony Shalhoub. I dated his niece once. Check him out as an alien pawn shop dealer 20 mins into Men in Black. It's on Hulu.

  • dude!! how in the hell can you stand it around here. dude like man between roosevelt (where i live) and vernal is a place called ufo ranch and dude THE FUCKING GOVERMENT (f.b.i.) GARDS THAT PLACE cause of all the creepy thing that happen the. i mean dude i live next to a place called ufo hill and when i wake up in the morning you might see a ufo ihae about 12 time. so in other words... its fucking creepy around here!!!

  • I've never been to that part of the state. The closest I got to Roosevelt was Price. Sounds like you better get out!

  • okay i posted, of a ufo.

  • film it and put it on youtube =P

  • Love it when you narrate.

    You have a nice voice.

  • you're the coolest person and most intelligent person i have found on youtube, and also becoming quite as popular as well.

  • You seem well Joe. Thanks for updating us on your trip, you have such a refreshing view on life and somehow I always smile.

  • What an absolutely gorgeous landscape.

  • joe, you seem happier when you're alone, despite the natural warmth and generousity of spirit. I hope you found a little of yourself out there.

  • bang a girl in every state

  • You know what Joe, this would make a good TV show. The concept and everything, I mean, travelling around the U.S and talking about the place and yourself.

  • you are kind of a goober huh?

  • Raisin pie? Im so curious in trying it. Crap! Now I gotta google a recipe and try it. I wonder if there's a prune pie? Or even a recipe for a Magpie?! Wait. Isn't that a bird? Now I gotta google 2 things.

  • Hey Joe, thanks for sharing!

  • This is beautiful. It looks like a colder version of Arizona, where I went w/ my family this summer. AZ had the same red rock everywhere which is shaped so beautifully by wind and time.

Liked the little "Where the hell is Joe" bit at the end.

  • Hahaha, me too.

I was like, "Wait. That seems like an homage..."

  • That's excellent.

    Contrarily,

    I, as I ripen,

    I sire pain, I.

I'm going to use your St. Louis video in a piece, with your permission.

  • Certainly, do you want the file?

  • I may - I'd prefer to do it live from the internet, but I'll have to see what the internet connection is like in the theater. I'll let you know.

  • Raisin Pie!

    Ani pie, sir.

    lest

    I Pine, Sira.

I'm catching up now. Missing you. In regards to that kind of landscape? Death is less frightening/more comprehensible to me.

Level of discourse is low at the market. I'm investing in a white noise machine.

  • Alas, nice to hear your voice, in my head. Here's a disturbing tale that wrote itself.

    I, as I ripen.

    I air penis.

    I rape. I sin.

    I rise pain.

    I rinse Pia.

  • nice, i'd like to see Utah in the winter.

  • I really want to go out west since I havn't been out there before :( it looks beautiful!

  • Man I am so jealous of you, that is a beautiful place, I've only been to New York, and Canada, makes me wish I could travel and had the money to do it.

  • cheap motels are sooo cool, i love staying at motel 6 when i go on road trips. LOL

  • Beautiful

  • *smiles* geee Joe thats a great video here. I enjoyed it quite well and made me think quite of bit for a second of being in some lonesome world away from the city and the drama that the city gives people in there lives.....raisin pie I for sure hate raisins so i would not liked it either. more video please still hungry for more.

  • This video really helped me visualize/thematize the book I'm reading right now. Awesome commentary Joe.

  • which is what?

  • Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy

  • Ah man, my friend Julia loves him and she has excellent taste. I stole the line describing raisin pie directly from her. If she calls me out I'll know she's watching.

  • Oh goodness! I didn't notice that was mine, although I did think "good description of raisin pie, Joe." And Yes. Blood Meridian is an incredible book. The Road I didn't think was that good. Other news in other comments.

  • lol wheres joe?

  • My first draft brought that up :)

  • Utah is so beautiful! I just wanted to go there with my camera and take pictures of everything lol.

Oh and rasin pie sounds horrible, because I HATE rasins!!

  • Nice video. I hope to see more of your trip.

Raisin pie? I've never tried it. I am intrigued by the awfulness of it. I did eat my first parsnip yesterday and I loved it.

  • lol, liking the dance at the ending.

  • Beautiful!

  • Very poetic and true.

    Thank you.

  • Hey thats my dance! lol.

I love my state. Seems less and less that the people who actually live here get out and enjoy it.

  • Wicked dancing.

  • Don't let the mormons get you! :0

  • Ammazing video! One day i'll go there... one day... How come you dropped the Viewer "Crash on your couch" thing?

  • Because I wanted to go but I didn't get any invitations from there. (Very few people live out there)

  • that was quite poetic, thanks :)

  • I've felt connected to places like that before, though I don't think I would have the guts to talk about it on Youtube. Very beautiful what you said, and so personal. Thanks for sharing, it reminded me of my own favorite places in the world.

  • I know you are missing the big city, right?

  • I'll miss NYC more in a few months. San Jose has been in the upper 60's for the past week.

  • You lucky ducky, it's been freezing here as I'm sure you are aware of. Is that when you'll be back? A few months?

  • No, I'm out here indefinitely, which is different from permanently, but longer than a few months.

  • great job man :) Nice to see you back on track! Hope you'll find a job!

  • not to you joe to chubbychipmunks

  • :D Great video Joe. Really one of my favorites.

  • Nice work capturing the scenery. Pretty

  • I agree about southern Utah having the best look. It's like Planet of the Apes. Smoothly creepy. I'd like to toss all the Mormons of the world off those steep cliffs though.

  • shut the hell up dumb ass thats a tipe o racism

  • great work man

  • Great work.

  • This video was so jokes.

    DFTBA. =)

  • I like raisn pie it's good me and dad may get it 2 time a year.

  • Loose little sacks of hot goo exploding in the mouth...delicious

  • Utah is a very pretty place but trust me you don't want to live here..ever. EVER.

  • no way dude. i lived in utah for 8 years, then moved to san jose now. i miss utah so much. Provo is a nice city to live in

i miss the snow. everyone here is a whimp when it comes to cold...

i mean, i even miss SHOVELING snow. everything's more expensive in san jose too. and since it's NorCal, the beaches are cold, no matter what time of the year it is. im just greatful i get to go on trips out to utah several times a year >_>

  • Great as always Joe... Good to have you back

  • Bryce is amazing. Beautiful writing Joe.

  • I love the midwest... so pretty. You got some beautiful shots.

And yes, we did miss you!

  • Thank you Joe for this beautiful experience.

    Glad to see you again.

  • Wow, Utah is very beautiful. I've never been there, but I want to go now. yeah, raisan pie dosn't sound good at all.. I really like all of your commentaries, you put so much thought into them and your a very good narrarator.

  • im only like 40 minutes north of your parents lol.

  • I was wondering where you have been...

Glad to see your doing well... Minus the cheap hotels...

Awesome scenery... I can't even begin to fathom how huge the stillness is!

    Great Video!

  • you've very good at narating this stuff.. scratch that. you're just a very good speaker in general.

    i like your videos.

  • HE's ALIVE!!! HE's ALIIIIIIIIIIVE

  • almost thought you fell off there.

I believe Devil's Tower is located in Utah--I saw that on a family vacation and it was fascinating.

  • You're right, Joe. There are few things more beautiful than southern utah. Canyonlands, Natural Arches, Brice Canyon...it goes on and on.... Whether summertime, or winter. It's amazing...and photography just doesn't do it justice.

  • aww man a good thing to do with those acoustics that that area must have is either yell rerally loud OR get a fat CD player and set it to full blast...althoguh that may kill the nature of its beauty but ah well i'll try anything once. could be the only one to do it you neverknow

  • There was a great echo under the natural bridge at 1:15. The big canyons didn't echo so much this time because of the snow.

  • indeed i guess i would have just made a big noise with no echo xD lol

i need to get my hands on a little money before i can start traveling think it would be an interesting experience as yours seems to be. :)

keep these videos coming! i should start making my own :p

  • Do you know the way to San Jose?? Ah common damnit, somebody had to say it!! dont thumb down damnit!!! :)

  • Thanks for the lesson, Great dance at the end.

  • I love this cuz this IS my home! I wake up to that beauty every day and this is just a nice reminder of the paradise I live, play and work in. Thanks for stopping by!

  • Nice Joe. I've always had an attraction to the American Southwest but haven't yet been able to travel there..one day, one day.

I also recommend a trip to Britihsh Columbia...its pretty supernatural here too

  • Joe! Ur alive! excellent!

  • Upon arrival to the Salt Lake valley, Brigham Young reportedly confirmed a vision by saying, "It is enough. This is the right place. Drive on." (This is commonly shortened to, "This is the place"). But because I know you I know you knew that. LOL Im glad you didnt tell them about MY loose sacks of warm goo...

  • Haha, gross! Thank you for the benefit of the doubt. Play it again, Sam.

  • brigham young also said that the place was right because it was a place no one else wanted, so the perfect place for the mormons to settle. lol learning it in history :) you'r awsome shay

    and you too joe

  • wtf the ending was halarious

  • Happy Dance!!

God and Geology? - an ontological question

  • its a dessert

  • Joe, you come to Idaho and you have... raisin pie? You better have had some huckleberry pie or you completely missed the point!

  • "The handiwork of God - Or Geology"...was that a 'politically correct' statement? Just pokin' at your ribs Joe

  • Glad your back! I miss your commentary on things lol

  • Hooray! I was beginning to wonder where you had gone (although I knew you were busy getting settled into SanFran). Great video-- was that a "Where the Hell is Watt?" reference at the end?

  • can you reply to my comment please just to say hi!?

  • That was beautiful. The words and feeling yo instilled in me. And I have to agree.

  • that place looks like awesome mountain bike terrain

  • haha i loved your dance! good luck finding a place and a job :)

  • That building at about 28 seconds...yeah. a few miles from my where I grew up.

  • remember that if u did decide to stay there, u may or may not have the same feelings to wards it's beauty because its there all the time, :} xD

  • haha that was an awesome little dance you did there

  • Beautiful. Enlightening. Brilliant! Makes me wonder about all the little things I'm missing in this wide, varied world of ours. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
