  • If Frum is serious about improving politics, he should focus on getting the corrupt money out of politics on all sides.

  • He must be straight. Therefore Rachel Cant stand him

  • @GDuck1966 u must be a moronic idiot because u r a right wing bigot

  • @GDuck1966 Her name is Rachel Maddow, not Rachel Cant. Also, considering that most of the men and women that she interviews are straight, she must not like a whole lot of people.

  • Rachel Madcow?What a Joke!!

  • @swanker63 We'd laugh if you were funny. Try again.

  • As a liberal I actually think Frum is one of the more honest repubs.. but with 24 hour cable news and financial news it has all become 90 percent entertainment and 10 percent hard news at best. All the shows from Fox or MSNBC have tons of gimmicks, lists, comedy bits, visual aids that are totally useless.. most of them are trying to be comedians, while mixing in some news and opinion. If you want hard news to know what is really happening in the world watch BBC WN America.. or even try reading

  • Maddow criticizing Frum? He's one of the most moderate Republicans nowadays, being fired for criticizing Fox and opposing Levin and Savage...

  • @darwincity It's good that you added "nowadays" because it's telling just how incredibly rightwing the conservatives/Republicans have shifted. Frum is a diehard conservative and can be as blinkered as any but he's a foaming-at-the-mouth religious fundamentalist, and is capable of telling his fellows cons bluntly that they're screwing up. That's a no-no in the Party of No.

  • I kind of agree with Frum at the start despite the fact I love Maddow's show. Politics now is more of a brand war akin to coke vs pepsi with MSNBC vs FOX or Republicans vs Democrats. If there was less infighting we would see FAR more progress in America. Both parties have voters who want an expansion of the middle class, the availability of jobs so there are less people who need handouts, etc. But healthcare, infrastructure and education get hosed when no one acknowledges their similarities.

  • McCain knew that he & Palin were nominated TO LOSE by the Billy Kristol republicans. Remember McCains "victory" speech in NH sounding like a SNL comedy sketch? He knew, Frum knew, the Wall St crime syndicate knew which is why they put so much $ on Obama. They were buying their way out of potential prison sentences. The RNC did not want to be identified with the recession/ near depression that they created & watched happen so they allowed a democrat to TRY & FAIL digging out of 10% unemplmt.
  • david frum = first class royal douche

  • ughhh my dad just read liberal fascism! i hate republicans

  • FRUM = Delusionally prone, inferiority complexed, arrogantly confused with practically no backbone

  • ...You know what's also rude? Responding to an interviewer's question with "I don't think that's an interesting question".

  • Maddow is pure class, yet very hard-hitting and smart. Too bad I am not single or a woman.

  • I can't believe how democrats cry like babies, especially after 8 years of calling President Bush a dictator, a traitor, a terrorist. The only difference is Republicans don't go around whining.

    GROW UP!

  • @Edwardbrooklyn the guy just spent 11 minutes whining, fox news whines 24/7. no your right, reps take the house then say right, nothing gets through till we get our way. including a bill to save the lives of 9/11 responders untill the millionares get their tax cuts because 'it's more important'. I'd be ashamed to call myself a republican, that any of you have the stones to put your head above the trench beggars belief.

    sit down.

  • @alxdnld You are so wrong. Please watch the interview Rachel had with Jon Stewart.

Please open you mind and answer this. Where so you angry when democrats had pictures of Bush with a Hitler mustache (for 8 years) as you are now when republicans do it with President Obama?

You probably were angry (with totally reason) with the Patriot Act, when Bush had that power, right? Now Obama has it, so, are you still upset?

  • @Edwardbrooklyn Godwin's Law, in your first post? Fail...

  • @alxdnld I'm sure you were crying about the war, well we still in it, so how are you feeling about it now? some democrats had coffins when they protest the war. If a republican do something like that liberals would be crying.

You assumed I was a republican, well I'm really a independent,(a real one) and all I was saying is Democrats are the PARTY OF HATE, they don't care about any principles. If you answer my questions you will see it.

  • @Edwardbrooklyn You wanna talk about assumption? I don't give a monkeys about the patriot act, I'm NOT american. America has the right to keep itself safe, and when the conservatives are in power, it's gonna be with heavy handed, over reaching methods such as that. Independant, or whatever, you don't make much of a point. You suggest that republicans don't go around whining? Really? 100 million reps in America and you're telling me none of them complain? Tea party? Glenn Beck? Need I go on?

  • @Edwardbrooklyn If you think the Dems are the Party of Hate, then the Repugs are the Party of Spiteful Hypocrisy.

  • @R4t10n4L yeah, I think the Republicans are just that, how you knew? just watch Fox

  • Wow. Rachel is incredibly patient and polite. That was the most impressive thing about the whole thing.

  • She did kick his ass lol. He was in an unfortunate position though; he was brought on to defend John Mccain's insensibility and carelessness.

  • haha- Frum looks deformed- where the fuck is his neck?

  • This dude is so much smarter than Maddow lmfao. He owns her. Title fail

  • Frum=zionist scum

  • I'll take Rachel Maddow any day of the week over liars like Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, and the FOX News biased "reporters". Most college educated people who are not religeous zealots agree with her. And, all the homophobic comments on here go to prove the true nature of the conservative right-wong. Intolerant and bigoted.

  • What a douche bag, look how stiff he looks, he talks like a douche bag.

  • this guy is a dip shit

  • I wonder if Rachel Maddow smacks down her wife if she messes up her laundry? LOL

  • Frum is a zionist stooge who is more interested in thr shekels than the dollars.

  • he will fuck u an leave u? get over it! i love bitches! ans

  • Jesus...what a smug prick.

  • she's such a badass. and so smart! hot!

  • he kind of saved himself at the end i think

  • I just love a smart woman that can articulate herself.

  • The title is ironic, It is Frum that smacks down Mandow

  • @bluegsp: No asswipe, he didn't.

  • @Neville6000 Yeah, shit stain, he did

  • @bluegsp He did not smack down shit! You know why Obama sais 'Let Me Be Clear' because he is frustrated with people that are dumb enough to believe all the lies. That means you!

  • @carnypimp Frum called this bull dyke out for the lying propagandist that she is. She was humiliated and frustrated that he wouldn't take her bait and ran circles around her intellectually. You are just too stupid to understand what happened in this video.

  • @bluegsp Yeah! He told that uppity cunt! Tell her to get back in the kitched and get pregnant. Whoever let women even speak should be shot.

  • To Bluegsp:

An unfortunate byproduct of America's rights and liberties is that despite clear evidence that you--personally, should not be allowed to reproduce, there is no law barring imbeciles to breed.

  • @carnypimp When ever Obama says "Let Me Be Clear", that means he is about to lie. XD

  • I am not a Maddow hater, but Frum is one of the most reasonable cons around. He is one of the few cons who stood up against Palin, Levin, Rush and the rest of the arseholes of the right.

  • @BarthBunzel--did he stand up to Rush when he call George Steinbrenner a Cracker on the day he died?? Hell no you didn't...anything but bravado....

  • @hockibabe It is not his job to attack Rush over all of Rush's crap.

  • this is a complete waste of time. The Republicans don't speak for me nor do the Democrats. Both parties are a waste of time. We do not need a 2 party system. What we need is politicians who represent the people and not unions, big banks, wall st. campaign supporters. The common man is always forgotten yet we are paying most of the taxes! We are sick of it and everyone assumes the tea party is a Republican party. It is not...Their views are more Libertarian than any of the 2 parties!!!!!

  • @haolejohn They have also threatened to kill Obama on numerous occasions. I don't want the Tea Party to represent me either. I don't want a crazed bunch of redneck hicks telling me that the president is an illegal immigrant simply because you can't go on your own computer or to a public office and request a copy of his birth certificate. After all, it is a public document.

  • @Valentineromano Nobody I know wishes President Obama harm. I wish he was for the people. When he was elected I cried because I thought he was going to be for the people of this country. Nowadays it seems he is not listening to a large group of people. I thought it was equal with majority and minority. Where is that is all I'm asking.

  • orm ember you make some really good points but yes, we should be criticizing these type of shows for not criticizing their own party enough. I dont hear Maddow challenging obama on his stance on hemp on this show and if that wasnt a betrayal of the common man in america then i dont know whut is...i wish i had listened to palin about obama being a terrorist.. im a huge liberal but look at the things obama is doing hes actually a terrorist on his own people so theres some misleading there lol

  • Rachel Maddow? Rachel Maddow couldn't smack down the kids on the short bus. She appeals only to a micro-segment of Angry Lazy Loser Youth. The public at large has her number, since she is consistently DEAD LAST in the 25-odd "personality" political/current event ratings. It's amazing: how the hell can you stay on air at a network with less than 50,00 viewers a night? Obviously because MSNBC isn't about profit, but is a propaganda effort of its major owner, for which $ lost are irrelevant..

  • @jum1801 Angry Lazy Loser Youth? Then guess what boy, you better be kissin' some ass soon because once this generation of "Angry Lazy Loser Youth" gets into office, and I promise you it will, your entire world will be flipped outside down. The only difference? You won't be eating Soylent Green.

  • @Valentineromano yeah right.

  • Good job Rachel ! Keep the whining scumbag on the defensive. You've got to give Frum some credit. He's been critical of the some republicans and conservatives, probably in order to "moderate" his own position. But why doesn't he go to Fox news and accuse them of being "negative" and "sarcastic" ?

The liberal MSNBC is the mainsream answer to Fox news, what the hell do you expect ?

  • @iamalittlespy Frum is one of the few intelligent conservatives but he's quite humorless.

I can respect the man's opinions but he doesn't have the common touch.

  • @R4t10n4L I am sure the man is intelligent but you really need some chutzpa given his background with the Bush administration to come on to Rachel's show and quote Gandhi. This man is partially and directly responsible for the Iraq Invasion, since he is the one who coined the term "Axis of Evil" when writing Bushes speeches. After years of dishonest manipulation, deceit and propaganda on Fox news he still has the nerve to go on Rachel's show and tell her she can do better ?

  • @iamalittlespy As I posted in reply to someone else he only looks reasonable because he is well educated and isn't a religious fanatic. The truth is I've never liked him and rarely agreed with him. But it's a sad story of US conservative politics that a expatriate Canadian is now the poster boy for moderate Republicans ( who have now become an almost insignificant faction in their own party )

  • @R4t10n4L I agree with you, except that I have a feeling that he is playing the "moderate" part because he wants attention and relevance. He is clearly not a religious fanatic, more like an intellectual but still Machiavellian and calculating neo-conservative chicken hawk.

  • @R4t10n4L His legacy is forever cemented as one of the people who helped the Bush administration launch the Iraq invasion, at least in my mind. But to quote Gore Vidal, since we live in a permanent state of Amnesia (Iraq is already being called the Forgotten War), I won't be surprised if he will be given a chance to re-brand himself as a "moderate" conservative.

  • it hurts to hear the truth,I guess.Anyway, maddow has made her self irrelevant exactly for the reasons frum delineated.Nobody watches her show.

  • what a shitty video this AntiConformist911 made...remind me not to watch any more of his goddam rubbish...what a dope ! And stop playing Rachel's clips ! You couldn't even shine her shoes you big phony conformist....!

  • wow, frum called it ALL

  • How do you like their tone now, Mr. Frum? Seems they didn't like yours very much either. LOL

  • This "raise the tone" preaching from a man who wrote speeches for Bush..! Practice what you preach Mr. Frum! (he has made some good points lately though)

  • @marcostar57 LOl I know...Republicans understand irony about as well as they understand the theory of evolution.

The GOP has contributed the following to public discourse in America:

-G.W. Bush in a fighter pilot suit

-The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth

    -Sarah Palin

    -Joe the Plumber

When I watch this guy, I feel like Barney the Dinosaur is lecturing me about the importance of serious, thoughtful discussion.

  • Rachel you have some hasty generalizations, and Two Wrongs Make a Right fallacy arguments... So you haven't made any real points, just saying.

  • We had two wrongs in the white house from 2000-2008, they claimed they did everything right too.

  • @mrbriscoe2001 I believe it is Frum's argument that political discourse should not be about who is kicking who's ass.

  • GORTEPOSS:YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!

  • wow he makes sense

  • Frum never does answer her question about how her tone and approach on the issues on her show is equivalent to McCain's not wanting to talk about the economy; at least, there was no reason that I could gather.

  • ESPN SAID YOUR BATHTUB BOY TOO

  • I SO agree! PLEASE keep your plug OFF of the video! How terribly irritating and off-putting. Grow up and stop playing yourself up.

  • Omg I love Madow and all and really wanted to see this video but stop plugging your channel all over it! She's the star here, not you. We can see your channel on the side. I had to cut the video short cuz your plug was too irritating.

  • I want to pray for everyone today. May the Lord bless you all and keep you. May he make his face to shine upon you, and give you his peace that surpasses all understanding. I know that He is the righteous King and ruler of the universe no matter what schemes that evil men devise. When He comes, He will reward everyone in righteousness according to their works, and He is the only one that will give us peace. I pray His peace comes upon everyone no matter who you are.

  • Holy shit this is boring. I was promised a beatdown, all I got was respectful requests for clarification. You owe me a beatdown of David Frum.

  • "Your show is an example of that, with its heavy sarcasm and inability to talk about the substantive issues....." What the hell, Frum? Rachel Maddow talks about political issues Fox News and other shows refuse to even discuss, or if they do, only dismissively.

Heavy sarcasm? Let's compare that to, oh, pundits such as Limbaugh and Glen Beck calling for violence, people to kill themselves and accusing the President of racism? Her "heavy sarcasm" is in response to that nutso behavior.....

  • You got any factual examples of Maddow covering a story FOX won't talk about? Or that they covered the same story in a dishonest way?

Oh, and I'd love to also see your facts that Beck and Limbaugh have called for violence or asked people to kill themselves! hahahaha

And the President isn't racist??? He gives us ths shit about Rev Wright being his mentor and great friend, but then lie to America by saying he'd never heard any of the racist things Wright preached. He's a liar.

  • Off the top of my head....

Fox was the only network not to cover the major rally in Washington to end DADT. They instead chose to cover a much smaller Tea Party rally

Fox was also the only network to cut away from the President+Republican Congress question time.

  • haha you want to compare a journalist who went to oxford to a radio host.. how sad.Rush Limbaugh is no good but this bitch tonight just said right wingers are celebrating the upcoming april 19th anniversary of OKC.. pathetic. Disgusting scum.

  • @OrmEmber when do glenn beck and limbaugh call for violence? what issues does fox refuse to discuss? more left wingers with zero facts to back their arguments, i guess some things never change. There is a reason no one watches Maddow.

  • @Arcturistheballer 1 example: Limagh- "I tell people don't kill all the liberals. Leave enough so we can have two on every campus -living fossils- so we'll never forget what these people stood for" for the record i don't think anyone should shut his drug addicted fat ass up I beleive in freedom of speech but that doesn't mean he doesn't call for violence.

  • @madmiguelh2o limbaugh is being sarcastic, you can probably see that (i hope you arent that stupid) but you wanted something to prove your point. Not that I support limbaugh but I can garuntee you he will never commit a violent act for political purposes like that. Difference is... there are people from the whether under ground who are in jail for blowing up government buildings in the 60s whos kids are in the custody of people in the obama administration, talk about violence...

  • @Arcturistheballer I'm not stupid and i don't care what mr oxycotin says. Doesn't bother me at all but you can't claim he doesn't call for violence just because he's being sarcastic. And if you think Obama is a radical, I got a bridge to Hawaii you might be interested in. The guy is a corporate sponcerd pussy.

  • @madmiguelh2o "you can't claim he doesnt call for violence because he is sarcastic" so i can hold you to your word for everything sarcastic you have ever said? ... I didnt think so. and I where did I say obama was radical.

  • @Arcturistheballer your right I framed my argument weakly. I don't think he's trying to insight violence yet there is no question that he IS insigting violence. Your argument about a obama administration member having custody of a child of a weather underground member however is weaker still. Are you suggesting its genetic?

  • @madmiguelh2o my point is the close ties with them. My friend blows up some buildings because he hates USA or whatever, he and his friends all go to prison and asks me to take care of his child, 30 years later I am working in the white house. That just doesn't sit well with me.

  • @Arcturistheballer Ok fair enough. I got a better one though. How about when your vice president is the former CEO of a company that makes a killing with tax payer money to do everything the military could do for a shit load more money. And that company along with lots of other companies whos CEOs are friends and former colleages of that vice president actually have invested interest in us attacking, invading and having thousands of our citizens killed in a particular country. ???

  • @madmiguelh2o First of all why say "my" vice president, its ours. Are you saying tax money goes to waste? is this something new, the feds waste more money every year than any organization on the planet. Just explain yourself "ceos of those companies are friends of that vice president" Just say Dick Cheney has these ties with X people. I have never heard anything like that nor could I research it because of the vagueness of the reply.

  • @Arcturistheballer Yer not that stupid Dick Cheney, Haliburton. I'm not angry that the federal government wasted money they do that all the time. I'm angry that people in the administration had interests based on profit for private interests. Some of us call that fascism. Bechtel, Blackwater, KBR, all of them had invested interest in us invading Iraq. Now we are broke as a joke and people want to talk about far less expensive programs like health care as govt waste.

  • @madmiguelh2o the cost of the entire war is a little over one trillion, (ignoring the cost of the stimulus) I googled cost of obama care and no one has any clue how expensive its going to be, I saw 2 trillion, I saw 6 trillion (I am sure it is exaggerated). And as far as special interests go, health care and stimulus are FULL of that. We have it designed so that unions and corporations can donate billions to campaigns and every administration compensates them which is retarded.

  • @Arcturistheballer assuming thats true what did we get out of Iraq? What did it do for me and you? I don't like the current healthcare plan cause it puts money in the same pockets that made our healthcare so shitty and unaffordable but at least I get something out of it. Tell me what i get out of the Iraq war or Afghanistan?

  • @madmiguelh2o Afghanistan and Iraq are two different wars, Also remember 4 planes were hijacked on 9/11, the pentagon was hit, the world trade center two most important economic buildings were destroyed, 3000 americans were killed in the attacks (4,500 troops have died in Iraq). I am no expert but the organizations who attacked us were based in Afghanistan, that war is WAY cheaper than Iraq and a necessity. Taking out sadam is somewhat justfiable because he was a threat.

  • @madmiguelh2o Personally I don't think we should ever occupy another country, Go in, kill the people behind 9/11 and leave. If I am president I give it 6 more months in the mid east and we are 100% out, if they cant keep themselves a float and the whole place collapses then so be it, too much has gone into the mid east. As a libertarian I could give a fuck what any country does or what weapons they have, let them do their thing but if they touch us they will get lit up and they know it.

  • @Arcturistheballer I couldn't agree with you more. Obama's decision to double down in Afghanistan where no one can even define winning let alone win was the most retarded thing he's done as president. However any libertarian that was paying attention during the Bush administration should be far more appauled by the increase in govt and reduction of freedom. Our civil liberties were shat on in unpresidented ways and unfortunately Obama is reinforcing the damage done.

  • @madmiguelh2o This debate seems to be about the amount of corruption between the bush and obama administration, Obviously both are going to have special interests/corruption etc. But I have to say between the way Obama's presidency has gone and Bush's book that just came out plus all the interviews he has done. I trust Bush more than Obama at this point.

  • About damn time that the Democrats punch back, I love it.

Hell I'm not even a Democrat, I'm an Independent with many conservative values...

But it's funny how now that the tables have turned, the Republicans, and many of their supporters don't know how to act.

    Good job Rachel.

  • @bigdaddy77777 Yeah.... and YOU dont make any real points either.

  • That Maddow guy got told

  • If Frum thinks Maddow isn't serious, then he hasn't been paying attention. - Furthermore, it sounds to me that he should be addressing his points to those that speak for the GOP.

  • If you watch the video you will see that he did direct that at people in the GOP, more than once actually. But his point wasn't just about meanness, it was about the lack of intellectual content...which Maddow then demonstrated by repeatedly whining that at least she's not as bad as people in an audience somewhere who may or may not have actually yelled anything. It would have been nice to hear some content about North Korea and Afghanistan, but I suppose I'll have to watch a different show.

  • If you're looking for a video that addressees the issues in North Korea and Afghanistan, perhaps you would do well to watch a show where those are the issues being discussed.

However, to try to use the fact that these issues weren't mentioned here is a spurious argument on your part and not just a bit disingenuous.

  • This wasn't disingenuous, he was there to talk about those issues. You'll note she says that she didn't invite him to talk about her credibility but felt she had to respond...repeatedly...with the same lame argument.

Republicans didn't lose because of their tone. Beck and Hannity's tones are consistently dramatic and emotional, often angry, and their ratings are great. They lost because of the bailout and McCain not understanding economics (i.e. liberal on economics).

  • wrt: "...he was there to talk about those issues." - How do you know the subject was supposed to be foreign policy (as opposed to some other issue)? I didn't see any evidence of that here.

btw, personally I think the GOP lost last year because Obama was less like Bush than was McCain. - People were sick of what the Bush administration did while they were in office.

  • David Frum commented on this incident and said he was asked to talk about foreign policy or something or other. I'm sorry I don't have the source.

  • btw, I agree that saying (in essence): "They're worse than I am" is lame and childish; but at the same time, I think her point about a false equivalency was valid. I just wished she had used a different example than the "kill him" event.

We need a two party system (at least) to keep both parties honest (well, relatively speakin). I really do wish that intelligent conservatives would step up to the plate and take back the dialogue from the lunatics. We NEED this to happen, for all our sakes.

  • That said, I think Frum's comments indicate he fails to recognize that insightful humor can be devastating social commentary.

You don't have to have a "serious" demeanor or style to make insightful and very relevant points.

  • I think the kind of humor you're looking for is on the Daily Show. It's more balanced than Rachel, though obviously still leans left. It's also much funnier and often points out genuine hypocrisy and silliness.

I will always remember Rachel's silly response to Republicans saying the recession was due to regulation. She said, "Really? The 'lack of regulation' recession was caused by too much regulation? Really?" That's not clever, it's creationist-style mindless propaganda.

  • I don't watch Rachel for her humor. I watch/listen to her show for the subjects she discusses, her interviews and often the depth of her analysis.

For example, tonight I came across: "Rep. Pete Hoekstra Leaks Intel Rachel Maddow" - ( watch?v=pis6Fi2njl4 )

wrt: "I will always remember..." - It sounds to me that she's making a simple point of logic.

  • What?! How is labeling an economic problem a simple point of logic?! This has exactly, and I mean exactly, the same logical coherance as a creationist saying, "Really? Dawkins doesn't think all of 'creation' had a 'creator?' Really?"

There's an argument about the cause of the current economic problem. She provided zero evidence or argument and simply assumed her side was right. It was something Hannity would have done.

  • Based on the content of so much of the rhetoric coming out of the 'right', even here one year later, Frum hasn't been very successful with his goal of raising the level of dialogue coming from his party.

...and he's correct. The right will pay for their continuing loss of credibility.

  • I agree, the Republicans needed an ass kicking after they let Bush run up a massive deficit, expand socialized healthcare, bailout giant corporations, generally give unintelligent responses to foreign policy questions, and insulting homosexuals. I'm glad they were spanked, they deserved it.

Here's hoping to a GOP that understands small government and personal liberty. Maybe Newt will come back, he wasn't so bad.

  • O-o-o-hh! Do us all a favor and go fuck yourself.

  • By the way, when you go to your mother's house, grab my socks. I left them under her bed last night. And she was lousy in bed too, but she sucks a good dick.

  • Lemme guess. A born again white trash piece of shit.

  • Would you mop up that spilled milkshake over by the Ronald McDonald poster near the door? Or else when you punch out tonight, don't come back. We will hire another teenager to do your minimum wage job and take your place, punk.

  • Another fart from you.

  • it jus seems to b a civil debate to,albeit she did articulate her thoughts better

  • All from the folks who voted for that airhead Sarah Palin.

  • Seems to me it was the other way around.

  • What part of the world is your mommy and daddy from, fartbreath? Let's hear the answer, assjuice.

  • She DOESN'T like cock. She's a lesbian. That's what lesbian MEANS. And as for gays needing EXECUTION, I think that's a little... medieval... By anyone's standards. Is your God a loving God? Or does he hate as you do? Leave the judging to Him. A just God cares less about you doing His work than following His rules. Leave the smiting to God.

  • F@cking liberal shltheads!!!

  • this guy frum is a waste of oxygen

  • Is it just me or did anyone else notice that he seems to close his eyes an unusual amount during the interview?

  • what a sexy bitch

  • Would you like to know why people don't care about policies? I'll tell you why. People think that a candidate that "may or may not" have been in cahoots with a terrorist is more interesting to talk about than taking 5 minutes to understand what "Government regulated health care" entails. How long can you hold a conversation with your friends about "government regulated health care"? How long can you have a conversation with your friend about a candidate who may be friends with a terrorist?

  • To continue my point, this political smearing needs to stop, NOW! I believe a significant amount of people watched the elections because it is truly becoming a spectator sport, much like people who watch hockey for the fights. If people truly understood a candidates policies rather than their affiliations or past, we wouldn't need latter.

  • As soon as he started talking about her tone on the show he lost. Frum, a word of advice: when you are up against someone who has you by at least 20 IQ points, don't try pulling that sort of shit. She'll eat you.

  • Respectfully, this is exactly what Frum is talking about! He is saying that "We all need to grow up". We need to stop making this similar to watching pay per view Mixed Martial Arts matches. Olbermann needs to chill, and so does Levin. Maddow needs to stop being a smart ass, and so does Beck! You're using the "She's smarter than him argument"! Maddow went to Stanford, Frum went to Harvard. Technically, they are both extremely intelligent. You really think she will "eat" him?

  • You assume a degree from a brand name school equals intelligence. It doesn't. Witness our most recent POTUS' degree from Yale. And the problem was not that he suggested decorum, but that his argument was a bifurcation fallacy. She's sharper and called him on it immediately. So his error was not only in using a logical fallacy but assuming he'd get away with it on Dr Maddow's turf. Though 'chewed up and spit out' might be more apt than 'eat'.

  • Well we can agree to disagree!

  • "And the problem was ... that his argument was a bifurcation fallacy."

I actually have not watched the video, but I know that Maddow herself is a proficient practicer of fallacies. I suppose many news-talk-analysis show hosts use fallacies. The trick is drop the fallacy and then run quickly to the next topic. If one dwells too long, the flawed logic becomes apparent.

  • example please. I know what youre saying is true because shows like this tend to be loaded with bias and opinion because frankly its all the about what the hosts think about the issues they bring up

however, ive seen rachel maddow's show a couple times and each time she seemed to bring up valid points, using logic and facts rather than resorting to emotional content and knee jerk reactions

  • No, she's gay. She generally only eats women.

I'm sorry, I had to. No hard feelings, Rachel. I like you fine, no personal digs meant, and certainly nothing against gays.

  • Actually, Maddow went to Oxford, but it really is OT. Frum made a good argument about sarcasm on the whole taking too much space at the expense of substance. But Maddow made a very valid point that her show contains satiric elements (which it does). Irony and sarcasm are key components in satire, you can't really have satire without them. It was a very loaded discussion of two intelligent people who did a good job keeping a respectful tone, even though they strongly disagreed with each other.

  • Does anyone wonder if this women ever been kissed?

  • Very likely, she is married. Oh wait, that was rhetorical wasn't it...

  • The mystery widens. How did they get any man to marry her? I would like to know how that is done. Probably some high level CIA stuff that uses some kind of hullicengenic drug that way the poor guy doesn't know what he is dipping it into.

  • She is a lesbian. And you're an idiot.

  • Oh, crap. Rachel's off her meds again.
