  • I see someone use a pick on a bass and I just wanna punch em right in the noggin. Besides the fact that a real bassist plays fingerstyle, you just look like a clown when using a pick.

  • @matizzle32 Justin Chancellor...

  • @matizzle32 Clearly you have not heard Justin Chancellor. He not only looks badass with a pick, he also has the best bass tone I've ever heard.

Also, would you punch Sting, Chris Squire, Paul McCartney, or John Entwistle in the noggin? I don't think so.

  • @squiresuzuki

Yes, I would. Then I would go watch Jaco Pastorius, Victor Wooten, or Nathan East play the damn thing the way it was built to be played.

  • @NevadaMusicUK Paul McCartney was one of the first people to play this bass. Except it was like a reddy orange colour. Do you have this bass in that colour?

  • @theyodaclub i think paul's ric is a mapleglo more beige like

  • you make a sound like that switch you do it nearly 50 times, tuh tuh tuh tuh tuh tuh tuh,

  • He picks it just like Chris Squire and it sounds beautiful finger picked. Slap.... It isn't a slap bass really. Same as P Basses

  • @skankster823 But a P-Bass has a great slap tone. They're great for Funk, look at The Brothers Johnson from way back when? Wooooo! P Bass slap tone is more wood influenced then a J Bass, even though J Bass is the go to slap bass :P

  • Scott Pilgrim is awesome and everything

but this bass was always THE FUCKING BOSS

  • You never use both outputs to get stereo like this guy seems to be saying, the stereo out requires a stereo splitter or Y cable

  • Fuck Hysteria! He played 'Down in the Tube Station at Midnight' to open the video with!! :D

  • Awesome version of All My Loving!!

  • @Ledwolf7 lol hell yea

  • FOOLY COOLY

  • @LedWolf7 YEEEEEES

  • tht looks lilke geddy lees bass, my orchestra has a geddy lee jazz bass, i got to play it xD

  • @zomgoodnessih8u Except Geddy's Ric was a 4001.

  • @Legionbass19 Ahh k they all look the same lol

  • NOT a slapping bass

  • this bass is way overpriced. uncomfortable, not very versatile.

  • the best bass!

  • I had a jetglo '74 4001 once. It was a piece of shit. I don't trust Rickys anymore

  • @bodgie247 The quality seems to vary a lot. Lou Barlow had one which he played for a long time, but sometime stole it... And he struggled for years before finding a new Rick that had the right sound. So, don't buy it just for its look (which is above awesome BTW).

  • Muse - Hysteria

  • Is he playing 'Black Dog' By Led Zeppelin in the begining?

  • @foofighter1998 No, "It's Down in the Tube Station at Midnight" by the Jam

  • 4:20 When I die, that's my heaven

  • The best way to play bass is the way that produces the best tune. If you are better with a pick, go ahead and use one. Likewise for fingers. I've played bass for about 8 years now and I've used both styles to write music, wholly dependent on what style allows me to play the bassline I want in the easiest way

  • i see a paul mccartney hofner in the back

  • 2 thrus rods in the neck make them a bitch to adjust.. >_<

the electronics are strange to me..

the 2 outputs are just.. strange..

but it sounds good and looks nice.

  • SLAPPA DASS MAN!

  • @fatfatat444 You ust typed slang for slap da ass man.

  • A rick does not deserve to be played through a line 6

  • wtf? you are playing muse bassline with a pick???

  • grinned like an idiot when he started playing Hysteria, pick or not.

I've been interested in Rickenbackers since watching Scott Pilgrim.

And I am in lesbians with this bass!

  • @drago336 nice referance there me to

  • @drago336 weird sounding without drive.

  • @drago336 even though he played it wrong :L Funny though :P

  • @drago336 You are my hero.

  • @drago336 I kinda hate that he has it and only plays songs that are amazingly easy

  • @bassharmonica Well well, you are talking about Paul! but, how played Cliff Burton? hoy plays Victor Wooten? how plays Geddy Lee? how plays Rob Trujillo? how plays Steve Harris? how plays Marcus Miller? how plays Tom Araya?... Right! WITH FINGERS... =)

  • @RABALAK You can play anything with a pick. Paul McCartney used a pick to play bass. So does Lemmy, Chris Squire, Sting, and many others. Rob Trujillo and Steve Harris suck, and are nothing compared to Entwistle. Burton is one of the only respectable ones (besides Lee) you listed. also, some of the best were pick players. Plus, at the end, all the guys he said were pick players. Wanna see how a true metal master does it, look at Lemmy. Prog, Squire. everything else Sir Paul McCartney.

  • @bassharmonica1 WTF?!? Are you kidding me? Trujillo and Harris suck?? you have problems. Bass was made for be played with fingers =)

  • @RABALAK Trujillo lacks soloing skill, Harris is a Cliff Burton wannabe. And you know what bass was originally played with? A bow. That is considered by some as a plectrum. It was never meant to be played using the fingers. Also, if you wanna see a real bassist, look at Entwistle. He played with a pick for a long period of time, yet he was still known as thunderfingers. Guitar can be played with the fingers, and originally was. look at knomfler, he proves it.

  • @bassharmonica1 How can Steve Harris be a Cliff Burton wannabe when Steve Harris was playing on albums with the same style he has today a good 3 or 4 years before the first Metallica album came out? So he was a Cliff wannabe years before he ever even knew of Cliff's existance? You pretty much lost any credibility as far as knowing what you're talking about with that silly-ass statement. Duh.

  • @bassharmonica1 my first instrument was double bass in an orchestra and a bow is a plectrum but in classical music picking or pizzicato is common technique so the bass is actually meant for both so your correct

  • @bassharmonica1 let me rephrase my statement bowing is a more common technique and pizzicato is used less often but still used. and some may not know even tapping with the wooden tip of the bow is a technique that fingerboard tapping was probably derived from

  • @RABALAK or your thumb

  • @bassharmonica1 paul used his thumb most of the time maybe he used a pick sometimes but relied on his thumb.. trujillo and harris are amazing as is entwistle. trujillo has amazing solo skills. bass has been played with fingers long before they used bows, and that was before a horizontal bass which was meant to be played with fingers, note the thumb rest on vintage fenders. Entwistle NEVER PLAYED WITH A PICK EVER. in fact he used all four of his fingers and thumb.

  • @PANICBLADE but entwistle did sometimes play with a pick...if you go on his wiki page there's a selection of photos of him using a pick...

  • @TheRedSandwitch Entwistle never had one style. In an interview he mentioned that its good to explore different styles of playing. That's what was so great about his playing... and he was just good.

  • @bassharmonica1 know what i take it back i think i hear a pick on some of entwistles stuff though ive never seen him with one.

  • Stop using a pick, failure

  • @ACWilderness

Tell that to Chris Squire. LOL!!

  • why is it whenever someone picks up a bass they play hysteria

  • @MunjieJump It's like the Stairway To Heaven for bassists

  • Comment removed

  • He said it has a "chocola'ey" sound! Ha ha ha ha ha

  • I'm feeling something wet in my pants...It is just because I need that bass.

  • @agustinamar2 Is it in the front, or in the back?

  • @Salguine lol! In the front, I have issues with sphincter while Rick's sound is on the air. Or maybe I have to get I life.

  • Absolutely! And don't forget Geddy Lee. He's another great master of that bass.

  • god I love my 4003... lol

  • yeah and it's a expensive bass

  • What a nice sg.. 4:37

  • Lovely bit of Muse at the beginning :D

  • Comment removed

  • I can't find this bass anywhere in australia, and the ones on the internet are like 2000 bucks.

  • 1:36 hahaha but paul played a hofner on all my loving!!!

  • beautiful.. but the plate on the PU can be removed?

    I dont understand it..

  • @nicodanger13 Yeah, they used to put those on because the electronics back then weren't great. Any sort of signal coming in would be picked up and sent through your amp. Bad at a concert. So they put the metal shielding on there to try and stop it. It can be removed. It's mostly for aesthetics now. And I know this is the reason for the pickup covers on Fender jazz bases form the 60's and 70's. I'm assuming Rickenbacker also did this for the same reason, but I could be wrong.

  • @TheJerksTC Thanks for ur kindly reply. Now i undrstnd.. i think i'd remove it in (far) case i buy it.. This bass is really gorgeus, anyway.. black n white n chrome .. wow.. and what a sound!!

  • @nicodanger13 No problem! Yeah, these basses are really something to behold!

  • whats the song at 0:42?

  • @TennGuy546 hysteria - muse :-)

  • i just want to give her a good slappin

  • Someday you will be mine.

  • Eww... Hysteria.. on a guitar of this calibre.. how dares't thou xP.

  • @RunDuckDuck The guy from Muse plays Hysteria occasionally on a 4003.

  • @greengrassfish

Is there a live video of that?

I know he plays Map of the Problematique and Knights of Cydonia with a Rickenbacker 4003, but not Hysteria.

  • You didn't play Ace of Spades -_-

  • must love hysteria on a Rickey!

  • 0:42 LOL real cool guys can play "Hysteria" by Muse without a pick.

  • @cmonninjaman

LOL real cool guys can do it both ways

there is no 1 way to play the bass, I play with a pick but if I want a softer sound I'll use my fingers REAL bassists can switch with ease. Sometimes I'll use a pick for half a song then just drop it and start using my fingers when I feel the song needs it.

  • Play a Ric with a pick, is SACRILEGE!!!! D:

  • @RABALAK HEY, PAUL MCCARTNEY PLAYED A RIC WITH A PICK!!!

  • Looks like SeaNanners

  • @TechReviewsWeekly yea, he does a bit, lol

  • too bad they weigh a freaking ton! i still want one

  • I said I was down at the tube station at midnight!

  • Hysteria!!

  • whats the bass called with the f hole on the right?

  • Just wanna say...

    Wrong color but...

    FOOLY COOLY

  • which one is better rickenbacker or musicman stingray?

  • @Bassisbeastiful Ha. Rickenbacker ALL the way

  • a Rickenbacker is my dream bass

  • what is the difference between this and the 4001 model?

  • I love this bass but it lacks a lot of natural bottom end through my Trace Elliot compared to my Lakland and Fender Jazz :(

  • @XanaduMyHome Maybe its the "dead E" string problem Ric's are known to suffer from. Tilt the pots up a little bit or use a washer/shim to adjust underneath the bridge is how a lot of Ric owners solve this problem. If your talking bottom end punch all over, then thats something this won't change but natural bottom end growl should be one of the strong points of a "Ric". 4001 has a bit richer fuller sound than 4003 but 4003 is more modern usable/flexable and a LOT stronger construction than 4001.

  • does anyone else notice the bassline to All My Loving by the Beatles starting at 1:35

  • How much cost this bass, does anyone know??? :(

  • @cokyy Most start at 2,000 dollars.

  • @cokyy I think maybe cause it has alot of features...idk go to ask.com :D

  • @cokyy £1600-1800

  • I just love this bass

    but... I can't affort this....

does anyone want to present to me this bass? XD

  • jesus i want 1 my wildest fantasy is to have this bass :P

  • This Bass is my dream...

  • If it was legal, I would marry this bass!

  • @JayTullis94 Well some guy in England actually married his Fender Strat so I don't think theres anything stopping you XD

  • Hysteria

  • I would give my left testicle for this.

  • A rick does not deserve to be played through a line 6

  • @ElectricSparkBass What do you have against Line 6? I've only heard good things about them.

  • @FriendlyShadow1 I've never heard much good about them, either from people or out of the amps themselves. Granted, I play guitar, so maybe Line 6 makes decent bass amps, but I've never had a good experience with Line 6.

  • This shop is down my road... in i came in to buy THAT bass... ;) just saying...

and the guy in the vid is a top man!

  • That yellow 330 - 6, it's just impossible !

  • Imagine it were blue FLCL

  • Eh...Nice, but not even close to being worth the money. You pay for the name. Drop dead gorgeous though.

  • hysteria!

  • im in lesbians with this bass

  • @snogs11 it's milk and eggs bitch

  • @snogs11 sweet scott pilgrim reference

  • @snogs11 Scott Pilgrim ftw. I could've bought the fireglo one, but I did not. Instead, I got the StingRay. Stupid me.

  • too bad the frets are soft and the output is a bit low otherwise it would be the best ever..... but hey nothing that a little customization wouldnt fix

  • Am i the only one who likes fireglo?

  • how did he not mention rush that whole time?!?

  • who saw the ghost at 3:46

  • @NevadamusicUK Hey...Can you send it from london?

  • but if bought it it'd be too nice to play :/

  • Bruce Foxton,...Down in the Tubeway Station at Midnight.
