(back when toys and shit was being made of him) so i was one of the guys who waited and waited for DNF... well when the game came out i said (well, now the developers can wait for ME to buy it) so i did.. it came down to 20 bucks and i bought it.. well if you had told me the first game i got 100% achievements in would be DNF id have called you insane.. but its true. i loved this game.. not GREAT but very fun.. to me anyway!

Sorry Jirard. As far as nostalgia goes, if you aren't a fan of Duke Nukem and haven't played any previous games of his, that argument doesn't apply. Nostalgia can't defend a game, because it doesn't apply to everyone. PC version or not, Duke Nukem just doesn't hold quite the same charm as the old ones did back in their day. Sorry, the internet wins this one.
I've played the Mac version, but textures like the paintings at 12:35 look all blurry instead of how they look in this video. Is the Mac version a port of the console version, or is there a setting I've glossed over that turns off "old graphics"?
I think the completionist should have pointed out that graphics are not the true forefront, that's like saying our nation is run by who's prettiest it's something that might be a little true, but not something we want to abide by. And on top of that, the Wii sold the most systems this generation, and the graphics are relatively basic, but we all love it because we know that Nintendo has fun games, they've been making them for years, and they even have the old ones on the VC they made to prove it
I think you guys should try defending TMNT, the game based off of the recent movie. It's really a pretty decent game, but it got a bad review because of the stereotype that movie games suck the devil's d!ck.
@pencilpoint100 I find it that Sonic 06 has more negatives than it does positives. The game originally was just over-hyped and Sega was rushed by Sony (Microsoft might've also but I dunno). If there's any Sonic game worth defending it would either be Sonic Labyrinth or Sonic R.
@rayza you do have a point but take into consideration Heavy rain, and L.A. Noire and Catherine ,i'd personally play these game than many of the generic titles today.
For old duke nukem fans this game is entertaining as hell, alot of nostalgia, a lot of pop culture references (I mean A LOT), inmensly variated & all the tecnical errors the game has in consoles it has been resolved in PC plus they've increased the weapons you can carry from 2 to 4 wich makes a big difference.
No, its not the best game ever, but it souldn't have to be, just play it, have fun, get nostalgic, have a few laughs and I promess it will be worth the money.
DNF is a good game, its not COD but its still good. i think that is better than COD because it is original and more old-school which is the kind of shooter I like.

I'm a critic and I've been defending Duke Nukem Forever since it's release. It's not perfect, and yes it's a tad underwhelming but people just need to take it for what it is, a game that got caught up with legal issues and a troubled development. Duke Nukem is exactly how he was all those years ago, like it or not. He however as a result helped carry the game through it's flaws and made it a very fun title. I haven't even played it on PC, I went with 360 and I still enjoyed it. Keep an open mind
Duke is a good character, but the game isn't good. I didn't care for the jokes and sexual humor to me is the lowest type of humor. The gameplay was disappointing because of the lack of guns and the guns sucked. Overall its a bad game, not the worse, but not good I am on the side of the internet
Duke was doomed from the first delay. But held a good game even with all the things that make todays CoD players hate. (aka unperfect graphics and loading)

Well, isn't this interesting: I'm watching this on the Tuesday in which the game goes on sale for $5 on Steam, which offers it on the 3 most popular Windows Operating Systems (7, XP, Vista) as well as for powerful Macs. It went on the same kind of sale a few months ago, by the way.

yes, portable gaming has become huge because of the iPhone. Yes, the Wii has introduced alot of non-gamers to videogames. And yes, there is alot of MMO's based on popular sci-fi or fantasy franchises... but what does all that have to do with Duke Nukem?
These are a few examples that the gaming industry has changed in the 14 years that it took for Duke to be produced, limiting the expectations and growth as to what Duke Nukem Forever could've been.

Duke Nuke forever did its best for fan service as it could do. the main character is not corrupted, the nudity,violent, and disgusting jokes are there ( that is where big part of the fun is ), and its graphics are not as bad as many people complain, gaming is not all graphics. It is tough a not great, not challenging and bored repetitive experience as an FPS with only 2 guns to hold (as accusation specified) cheap and easy bosses with lame strategies and short overall gameplay.
Why is this title different from other Metroid games? Is this metroid even believably good? Yes!
The game follows a different pattern then the other FPS metroid games while still maintaining the feel of metroid. It is a second person game, sort of like the (S)NES games (and takes place right after super metroid, which you reviewed recently anyways). And don't fret, it's not side scrolling.

Jirard, I think Dragon Age II needs defending. It's got a lot of flak (if that's the right word) for not being as good as Dragon Age: Origins and has earned massive hatred for reasons I don't quite understand. It's an enjoyable RPG (with a hot pirate chick). Do it for Bioware :)

You should do Sonic Unleashed, that game was fantastic in my opinion. The only thing that keeps it under, the werehog. That is the ONLY thing and it would be praised for miles around if it didn't have it. SU was unfairly punished for its werehog.

I think the problem with Duke Nukem Forever has to be the fact that being priced at 60 dollars on launch day. If it launch at a bargain price of 20-40 dollars it might be more forgivable.

After seeing the thumbnail I was expecting an episode on Phoenix wright: ace attorney, which would have been friggin' awesome by the way. It was pretty interesting and entertaining. I liked it. Looking forward for more!

I whole heartedly believe Jirard won that case. Yeah, DNF wasn't the perfect game, but really, what game is? It was a fun game, a funny one at that, and I had a blast playing it. :D
I remember the days of old when I had to install Duke Nukem 3D over 12 different floppy disks... A lot of time has passed since then and the gaming industry has changed a lot. I think this game serves well as a nice homage to the past.
Despite its flaws, I really enjoyed this game. It had a good sense of humour breaking the fourth wall and poking fun at itself. It's no masterpiece by any means, but I still had an enjoyable time!
I'm truly glad Forever was released, I am. I can't say with a straight face it's a good game tho, hell, it isn't a mediocre game. It's bad, so bad, but you didn't get DNF to play a great game, nor for the online, you got it to play as Duke again, and that it did fairly well.

Duke Nuke forever did its best for fan service as it could do. the main character is not corrupted, the nudity,violent, and disgusting jokes are there ( that is where big part of the fun is ), and its graphics are not as bad as many people complain, gaming is not all graphics. It is tough a not great, not challenging and bored repetitive experience as an FPS with only 2 guns to hold (as accusation specified) cheap and easy bosses with lame strategies and short overall gameplay.

Why is this title different from other Metroid games? Is this metroid even believably good? Yes!
The game follows a different pattern then the other FPS metroid games while still maintaining the feel of metroid. It is a second person game, sort of like the (S)NES games (and takes place right after super metroid, which you reviewed recently anyways). And don't fret, it's not side scrolling.

Jirard, I think Dragon Age II needs defending. It's got a lot of flak (if that's the right word) for not being as good as Dragon Age: Origins and has earned massive hatred for reasons I don't quite understand. It's an enjoyable RPG (with a hot pirate chick). Do it for Bioware :)

You should do Sonic Unleashed, that game was fantastic in my opinion. The only thing that keeps it under, the werehog. That is the ONLY thing and it would be praised for miles around if it didn't have it. SU was unfairly punished for its werehog.

I think the problem with Duke Nukem Forever has to be the fact that being priced at 60 dollars on launch day. If it launch at a bargain price of 20-40 dollars it might be more forgivable.

I just felt restricted, the number of different guns and yet the option for each kill felt predetermined and by about half way through repetitive.

I remember the days of old when I had to install Duke Nukem 3D over 12 different floppy disks... A lot of time has passed since then and the gaming industry has changed a lot. I think this game serves well as a nice homage to the past.
Despite its flaws, I really enjoyed this game. It had a good sense of humour breaking the fourth wall and poking fun at itself. It's no masterpiece by any means, but I still had an enjoyable time!

I'm truly glad Forever was released, I am. I can't say with a straight face it's a good game tho, hell, it isn't a mediocre game. It's bad, so bad, but you didn't get DNF to play a great game, nor for the online, you got it to play as Duke again, and that it did fairly well.
