The reason for the death penalty is not for revenge, or at least it shouldn't be. If it is to be used at all, it is supposed to be in the interest of public safety, to eliminate a person or would be a constant threat to those around them, and is beyond redemption. I do not oppose the death penalty, although I still have respect for those that do. Its hard not to respect the opinion that less people should be killed, there are just different ideas people have to accomplish that.

Only primitive societies still use the death penalty today. That includes the US. Every single modern society has long since stopped using the death penalty.
The reason why we have so many "lifers" in prison is because of drug charges. You can't assume that the court system is flawless. There are many examples of people being wrongly accused, wrongly imprisoned and wrongly executed. It's best to be safe and not execute anyone.
I don't think the death penalty is wrong, as a matter of fact I believe murderers should be killed just the way they killed their victims so they know exactly how their victims felt right before they were killed.

The reason for the death penalty is not for revenge, or at least it shouldn't be. If it is to be used at all, it is supposed to be in the interest of public safety, to eliminate a person or would be a constant threat to those around them, and is beyond redemption. I do not oppose the death penalty, although I still have respect for those that do. Its hard not to respect the opinion that less people should be killed, there are just different ideas people have to accomplish that.

It could have been any one of the 3 people, so none of the "executioners" know which one was responsible for killing the condemned, allowing each of them plausible deniability. The reason why we have so many "lifers" in prison is because of drug charges. You can't assume that the court system is flawless. There are many examples of people being wrongly accused, wrongly imprisoned and wrongly executed. It's best to be safe and not execute anyone.
